Chapter 3: Chapter Three - Sisterly Chats

In Jemima's Bedroom

In Evander (Home)

The next day being Saturday, I stayed indoors. I never stepped out of my bedroom because I didn't want to see or greet my parents or my sister. I was so heartbroken but at least, still in touch with my BFFs.

In the interim, I looked tousled and was going bonkers. I didn't even know when Mildred, my kid sis flashed in. She slammed the door and rested her back against my door, panting hard like an athlete who ran a marathon race.

I was angry just by the sight of my sister bit I managed to keep my cool. "Hey kid sis, what the hell is wrong with you? Why did you barge into my bedroom like that?" I never knew I could use such anger tone or stupid jargons like 'hell'.

"Haven't you heard the latest tidings?" Mildred asked not minding my words. I was looking bewildered, I wasn't the type that listened to hearsays like my kid sis.

"Well, Dad is on the telly right now. Can you believe that Dad won a contract from the Flintstone Family. So that means we are rich. We are gradually getting into the main and hottest lines of business." Mildred shrieked in utmost joy. Who wouldn't be joyous if his or her father won a contract from one of the famous and richest families in Evander. But I wasn't intrigued. I was just sad that I got separated from my very first friends; they taught me so many things I never knew and opened me to the world of reality. I was once on the dull side but now on the bright side because of my friends. And now, I was separated from them. It really hurt!

"Jemima! Are you okay?" Mildred patted my back. Oh no! I was so lost and engrossed in my thoughts. "You're supposed to be happy for dad, why that face?"

"Can you just leave my bedroom?" I asked Mildred in such hoarse and high tone. "Please?!" I added.

Mildred was shocked at first, I had never asked her to leave my bedroom or even used such tone on her. She looked shocked but she didn't mind.

'Mäybe because dad and mom changed her to ānother high school?' she thought and looked at me with pity.

Mildred touched my cheeks lightly and smiled. "I know why you are moody. Dad and mom's plan to take you to another school, right?"

"Yeah." I nodded. "And you even supported 'em. You know how much Hamill Dayle High School means to me and going to another school is not something I..."

"C'mon Jems! You don't need to be selfish in this case. Dad and mom wants the best for you and I. What can that poor school offer? Attending such outmoded school was not among dad's plan especially now that he has upgraded. It would be a dent on his reputation if you attend such classless high school like that when dad is striving hard to get to the main, hottest lines of business." Mildred explained.

"O-okay. But-but what about Gwenn and Joslynn?" I asked.

Mildred scoffed. "And those girls? They are way below your levels. You need to step up and face reality. You are the one who told me that 'everything happens for a reason/purpose'. So if fate wants you to go to another school..." She explained greatly more like a strict tutress. "Who are you to object? Embrace it and there must surely be a purpose for such." She said and smiled endearingly.

I smiled too and we both laughed out our awkwardness. She talked and explained as if she was a motivational speaker and she really motivated me tho. "So let's go to the sitting room. You said that Dad won something like a lottery or what?" I said trying to change to topic to a suitable one.

"Yeah." Mildred chuckled. "He won a contract from..." She talked as I followed along till we were out of earshot.
