Chapter 4: Devilish System

"It hurts..."

These were the first words Jake heard when he got up in the woodshed. Although he was still in pain, his body was healthy. Broken bones had snapped back into place, wounds had shrunk without leaving a scar. His blood-soaked clothes were dry when he got up, but the color of his clothes had been permanently discolored.

"I'm still alive, why? I can swear... that I was dying. And what happened to my clothes?"

He remembered the execution that Mark had arranged for him but there hadn't been so much blood then. So even though he didn't remember anything, he knew he had to get rid of his clothes. Wherever the blood came from, it must be the result of a heinous crime.

"Did God listen to my wish, and kill that bastard Mark? Thank you."

Jake bowed his head and prayed. Ever since he was little, when he was in dangerous situations, he prayed, and some god listened, and then answered. So, in the last years, when Mark tortured him every day, he prayed patiently and waited for the moment when Mark would cross the line. Eventually, the line was crossed and the price was paid.

"hahahahaha!!! So who's the loser now? Which one of us is the bastard? Too bad I won't get to see your torn face! If there's any of it left! hahaha!"

Jake laughed hysterically, even tears appeared in his eyes. It's been a long time since he showed that much of an emotion. . Ever since he woke up on this cursed planet, his life has been a pile of shit. His parents left him in the forest to die, just because he started talking at the age of two. Eventually, Jake realized it was his fault. Children, especially at that age, should not be able to speak in extremely complex sentences. So when his grandfather found him alone in the woods and took him in, he decided never to show his high intelligence. Not at least till he was old enough.

A flashback came to Jake's mind, he was in the world he came from. Computers, manga, comics, movies. There were many things he kind of missed from that world. But you can't help it, that was then and this is now. He is in a world he did not understand. Magic, swords? He never wanted all that garbage. Isn't a peaceful life on this planet possible?

"Argh!"

Jake screamed in pain as he tried to stand up. His whole body went rigid. His bones shuddered with every little movement. When he stood up, cursing, he stuck his head through the crack in the door and checked to see if anyone was in the yard.

"No dead bodies. At least that's good. I hope God hid the bodies."

Sitting on a stump, he felt both eyes hurt. Usually, after a god saved his life, his red eye would hurt, but this time it hurt both. Gradually, blood began to flow from both eyes. And his amber eye changed color and became red. With the palm of his hand, he wiped his teeth, which were bleeding. And he heard something in his head

*Ping*

He heard a notification. But he thought he had misheard. Quickly, there was another notification that sounded several times.

*Ping* *Ping* *Ping* *Ping* *Ping*

"Huh? What the hell? Am I starting to have a haunting?"

<Congratulations. As of now, you have reached a sufficient amount of suffering to unlock the second eye of Satan. From now on...>

The voice of a young boy, the booming voice of a young man, was in his head, congratulating him on unlocking his new eye. He quickly ran into the courtyard and looked around. After walking around for a couple of minutes, he realized there was nothing there. But he still shouted

"Who are you? Is someone talking? "

This time, not only did the guy's voice appear but also a steep window came into view. However, Jake, being overtired, decided he was hallucinating.

<Well, that's rude. I hadn't finished speaking yet. Let me introduce myself...>

"What the hell!"

<... WILL YOU STOP INTERRUPTING ME!!! ASAP! >

"Huh?"

<Did you calm down?>

After a couple of sighs, Jake remembered that he'd read a couple of books where the main character gets some kind of system or something like that. This might be one of those cases. Or... He's haunted. Well, either way, talking to the system or yourself won't hurt. There's nothing else around.

"Yeah, can you tell me what's going on here?"

He heard the guy's voice again. This time the owner of the voice was cheerful because finally, his host would not interrupt him. Probably.

<Ah, finally. So, let me introduce myself, I'm your very own 'Satan's Eyes', every time you were in a dangerous situation, I would choose the most suitable demon lord from the other worlds, and for a short while, I let him grant your wish. Or, simply to save you. The bad news is that once you've unlocked the second eye, that option is no longer available. I'm sorry. Your body and your life are now in your hands. But the good news is that once you have unlocked both eyes, you will gradually learn to use the abilities of the 'Satan's Eyes'.>

"Interesting, so my wishes were granted by the Devil and not by God?"

<That's right. Let me ask you. How do you imagine the Devil?>

"Uh, tall, muscular, red, and horned?"

<...>

"What? I guess?"

<Are you serious? Ah, whatever. Yes, your wishes were granted by the devil. Boo!>

"... Are for real? Very scary."

<I know it's not scary. For one reason. To give you your powers, and the opportunity to grow. I have taken over your emotions and personality.

Jake collapsed back into the woodshed, and we leaned against the wall. Listening to the young guy's voice and watching the window, where every word was spoken appeared as a note, he calmly asked.

"So, tell me about the powers. You interest me."

<...>

"What? Something wrong with my powers?"

<Nothing, it's hard to concentrate when I'm talking to someone who has no emotions at all. I know I'm guilty of it, but it's the only way I can give you my powers is by merging... But, anyway. Bruh, you don't even ask about your emotions. Don't you want to get them back?>

"Can I eat my emotions? Can they help me to survive? I don't think so. Tell me about the powers."

For the first time, he heard the voice of the system, without showing it. And that was when the system sighed.

*Sigh*

<Sure. Well, jokes on you. To fully control Satan's eyes, you'll have to get in touch with your emotions. Or rather, me. It's going to be gradual, if I may compare... it'll be just like those novels you used to love to read. Sound fun?...>

"Not really. It sounds more fun... Sitting alone, in peace."

<...>

If the Devil had a physical body, he would have started banging his head against the wall and tearing his hair out. He knew the guy would have no emotions, but he didn't expect him to be completely devoid of any inclination towards anything. So he needed to find a way to bring back any small portion of his emotions, soon. Otherwise, he will never connect with his body owner.

<I know you're passive now. You don't care what's going on or what happened. And truth be told, it's my fault. But as you can see, I want to correct this mistake. Therefore, whether you want it or not, you have to recover your emotions.>

"What if I refuse?"

<Then I... >

With an emotionless face, Jake watched the notes appear in the air. And the Devil who had taken over Jake's emotions felt lost. He wanted to threaten to take over Jake's body and kill everyone in the city... But Jake wouldn't care. Right?

"Then what?

Then, the Devil had second thoughts. He was struggling to find a way to motivate this robot. To give him the rest of his powers, he needed Jake to get experience. However, he doesn't think that Jake has any motivation. Like an animal Jake acted on instinct, not emotion, that's what he can do with it. So how can... Wait. Instinct? Well, that's just great. The devil knows what instinct is the most important in any animal's existence.

<...Then, I'll kill you. I'll just kill you. See how simple that is?>

There was a snapping of fingers sounds, and immediately Jake went back to the stage he was in when Mark was torturing him. His legs were once again dislocated, his face was swollen and he was slowly bleeding to death from the multiple wounds.

"Y-you... Bastard..."

The devil knew that even though he was a psychopath, he still felt a natural desire to live. It wasn't an emotion, it was an instinct that Jake had lived by until now. In a sing-song voice, the Devil asked.

<So Jake, do I finally have your attention? hehe>
