Chapter 27: Twenty-Five
Chris's Pov
The wedding has been amazing, what is it about weddings though that make us single ones feel like shit? Anyway, it is time for my speech, although I know I am not going to top Bella's speech, everyone was in ears, Jay included.
"Thank you everyone for coming today to celebrate this day with us, Jay you have been my best friend since we were ten years old, I could tell some awesome stories, but I think your wife may kill me so I won't" everyone laughs "but on a serious note, you two are the perfect definition of 'a couple made in heaven' you are both going to have an amazing life together, and I know for sure that you two can get through anything together, I do have a surprise for you Jay, you always said that when I had enough of being deployed to let you know and we could start up a business together, well here you go-" I pass him a gift box and he eyes it with suspicion but Sarah nudges him to open it, I watch his eyes scan over, Sarah already knows what it is as I had to get her take on what I was going do, I watch as his jaw slowly drops and his eyes meet mine
"You are not serious?"
"I am, when I had to leave, I promised you that I would come back and see you but my heart couldn't handle it, you know what I mean, and I felt like a shit friend for not being here, after this break I have one deployment left then I'm coming home to stay, and that is the deeds to our new bar, please raise your glasses to the new Mr and Mrs Connors, congratulations guys we love you" before I can take my seat he pulls me into a bro hug
"Tell her"
"I can't, Jay."
"Try, trust me" How can I tell her that I want be with her, that jackass ex just cheated on her and I know for a fact she won't want to be with me when I am being deployed in a week.
Bella's Pov
That was a revelation, the thought of Chris being deployed again made me feel sick to my stomach, I promised I wouldn't let myself get attached to him again, but who am I kidding I always have been and always will be and that thought kills me.
The speeches and food are over so everyone is mingling with drinks at the moment, after getting one of the staff to warm up Ava's bottle I sit at a table in the corner, feeding her is peaceful
"Bella, you both look stunning, can we talk, please?" No not this shit again
"No, this is my brother's big day Ty, look I appreciate you being here, but this is not the time nor the place
"Okay, fair enough" shit that was easy, I watch as he walks away, I wind Ava and change her quickly putting her back in her pram just as Claire arrives
"Everything all right, Bella?"
"Fine, nothing I can't handle."
"Good, now I am having Ava in my room tonight so go and enjoy yourself, okay?" I give her a hug; she really is amazing.
The moment I have been dreading arrives, the bride and groom have been called to the dancefloor for their first dance, I watch as Sarah's eyes find mine and she throws me a wink and Jay looks highly amused, they look deep in conversation before they start calling people up to join them
"They told me it's compulsory for the best man to dance with the maid of honour, Sarah also said she will kill me if I don't, so would you care to dance" Of course his statement about Sarah makes us both laugh, as he takes my hand leading me to the dancefloor, I glare at Sarah who throws her head back laughing but what happens next kills me
'She looks so pretty with no makeup on, you should hear her talking to her momma on the phone, I love it when she raps to an Eminem song, That's my girl. Man, her eyes really drive me crazy, you should see her smile when she holds a baby, I can honestly say that she saved me, that's my girl. Yeah, that's my girl in the passenger seat, windows down dancing around causing a scene, that's my girl sipping crown and sprite and a ball cap turned back, oh she got me like yeah baby girl you've gone and done it again, making all the guys wishing you were with them, but I bet they don't see what I do when I see my girl' Dylan Scott My Girl starts playing and I hear Sarah and Jay both laughing, the mother fuckers.
Chris's eyes light up with humour though, and immediately I relax when his hand sits on the bottom of my back taking my hand in his as my other hand curls around his neck
"They have done this on purpose, you know that right?" I say with a smirk and he chuckles quietly
"Yeah I know, Jay grilled me about you last night" he whispers
"Sarah grilled me about you last night" we both laugh, I can barely concentrate on dancing because my body is on fire right now.
"I missed you, Bell"
Tys Pov
It killed to watch Bella dancing with the best man especially when they were looking at each other like there was nobody else there. I need to know how they know each other, I get that she is too busy to talk but I thought she would at least want try.
"Hey man, how's it going?"
"Hey Rome, I don't know what to do, I mean look at that and tell me there is no connection between those two" I say looking towards Bella who is staring up at Chris like nothing else matters
"I'm your best friend Ty, and I'm not going to sugar coat anything, but you cheated on her after a few days together. Just give her time"
Everyone is watching them, that should be me and her
"I've got to get out of here man, tell Sarah and Jay I said congratulations and there's a present for them in my room, can you give them it please?"
"Sure but where you going?"
"Home" with that I take a last look at Bella before making my way to my room quickly packing my stuff.
I managed to book a flight that leaves in a few hours so I'm outside the hotel waiting for a cab
"Giving up on her already?"
