Chapter 60: Heart Demons
"YOU CAN GO DIE NOW!!"
The lightning seal Kong Xiang had in his hands shattered, and Mo Nian emerged, revealing his ominous form, as if seeing no need to go on with the charade. Darkness surged out from him and extended towards Kong Xiang, intent on corroding him.
Kong Xiang had immediately figured out the truth after using his karmic sight. As it turned out, he had actually unknowingly barged into the Wildlands, and everything that had happened was actually real. However, most of it was more like a planned plot. He had indeed also had that conversation with the brothers, only that they didn't remember. They were apparently long under the control of the ominous heart demon energy.
In his sight, the karmic line that extended from the brothers to the region was now more of a puppet string than a karmic connection. Subtly, it had laid low all along and only took control at this opportune moments.
Right now, the two mindlessly pounced on Kong Xiang, daggers appearing in their hands. Kong Xiang did not bother to defend himself, as their mortal strength could not pierce through his body, no matter how hard they tried, not to mention the rebound qi-barrier passively enveloping him faintly. Even then, he could not retaliate if he didn't want to harm the brothers. The barrier weakened ever so slightly and rebounded the brothers some metres away, hard enough to make them fall unconscious.
His domains manifested around him. He concentrated the virtual lightning domain, making it appear as an armour wrapped around his body, shielding from the ominous sneak attack.
"LIGHTNING FIELD, NATURE DOMAIN. SEAL DOMAIN!" Kong Xiang yelled as he somersaulted backwards, reapplying the earlier tactic he had used to seal Mo Nian's book form. However, Mo Nian simply chuckled as he phased through the lightning barrier, incurring no damage.
"The same tactic has never worked on me twice, not to mention it was never effective in the first place, he he he. If not for the fact that I have some misgivings, with my strength, do I even have to go through such schemes to corrupt a junior?" Mo Nian's soul form communicated, inducing an outburst of madness and negative emotions in Kong Xiang. True to his title, he was indeed a demon true and true.
Upon sensing a breach in the seal some days ago, he had thought of utilizing the variable, Kong Xiang, to escape. His instinct told him not to directly try to possess the boy, as he sensed a rather intimidating exuding from him that could threaten his life. Ever cautious, he instead, he started a play, plotting the fake escape scenerios, which eventually delivered him directly to Kong Xiang. At such close proximity, he was rather confident he could successfully corrode him easily before Kong Xiang could utilize that unknown trump card.
Right now, amidst the double onslaught of the demonic voice and the surge of demonic energy, Kong Xiang felt his soul suffer a hit. Multiple heart demons instantly manifested in his consciousness.
There was a version of him as a devil, reveling in mindless slaughtering. There was another of him as a monarch, enjoying the praise and worship of all, and yet another of him as a mad man, lost and crazy. He felt like his soul was being split painfully into several parts he had no control over. His hand held up his head as he yelled in pain.
"This...?" Mo Nian thought in surprise. All it took from him was a surge of his demonic heart energy to render Kong Xiang to such a state? It seemed he had overestimated the unknown trump card. For a moment, he wondered if the threat he had sensed was even existent in the first place.
