Chapter 7: Sibling?

While on the way back with Susan. There was something Xavier wanted to know." So how did I awaken anyway?"

She then looked at him with narrowed eyes and said," By a near-death experience. That's how I awakened along with Feran."

Xavier already knew that most of the information in books based on magic was wrong. He was doing it the way they said to do it which was by practicing but it still came as a surprise to him that it was that easy.

'That explains about everything. Even though I practiced the exercise recommended from the books based on magic I never felt any progress. And probably the reason why people awaken at such higher ages like 12 or 10 is because of their mana potential.

'People like Susan, Father, and I possess high mana usage so a near-death situation caused us to awaken mainly because we probably had to potential to awaken already. Maybe the high amounts of negative feedback coming from a near-death and the will to survive made our bodies subconsciously awaken early since we were close to doing so already.

' So in other words, our fear of death subconsciously opened our sealed mana gate that was already near opening which released all the energy we gained until now in one go. And because of that, we are now able to release mana of free will. That would explain how strong I was when I first awakened. But that wasn't just magic, the fact that I was able to inflict physical damage on her can only mean there's much more to awakening, maybe there is also a physical boost to the body, somewhat like physical enhancement magic. And that in that entire fight while was she moving so sloppy and lied about going all out, she was holding back that whole wasn't she? She could have just finished me with one attack, maybe she wanted it to be more of a life and death situation by also putting her life on the line for me to awaken.'

Susan then looked at Xavier who seemed into it with a confused face," What the hell is going on in your mind right now?" She snapped her fingers in front of his face," Snap out of it."

" I'm thinking, the least you could do is interrupt me."

She then pointed her finger forward," I was trying to tell you that we're here."

Xavier then spun his head to face the direction she pointed to," Oh, could have just said that earlier."

Vivian came out of the house and rushed to them," You're both hurt, what happened." Susan and Xavier looked each other in the eye and then turned their attention back to Vivian," Oh, I was fighting a monster until Xavier tripped and fell. The monster attacked Xavier so I took the hit." Susan then pointed at her wounds.

" You're burned, how did a monster inflict such a burn mark?"

As much as Susan didn't want to say that the very monster she easily defeated caused her so many burn wounds while it was Xavier's final attack she had to," It was a Black Wyvern."

" That about sums it up. Now let me heal you."

Vivian then healed both Xavier and Susan.

" I have something to tell you, Xavier." Vivian then held Xavier's hand. Susan then walked back," I'll get going, I wouldn't want to interrupt you." Vivian then pulled her back," It's good news for you too!"

" What is it, mom?"

"You're going to be a big brother!" She smiled as she said this, Xavier was surprised.

' That would explain her sudden sickness.'

" How long have you known?"

" A month by now," Vivian said.

" Does dad know?"

" No, he doesn't know yet but maybe we should surprise him?" Vivian acted as if she was a little girl. Though, Xavier had never been more proud to have such an energetic mother.

" His birthday is around next month, right? We should probably tell him until then."

Susan suggested before being attacked by Vivian," No, I'm incredibly impatient which means I can't go any much longer I have to tell him!"

' Oh!' Xavier had now remembered to ask Vivian and Susan if he had any other family members.

" Do we have any other family members we can inform?"

" Sadly not. I'm a runaway so I don't have anyone I can inform. Susan and Feran have an older brother but he and your cousin live on another continent." Vivian's face changed.

' Oh, I have a cousin?'

" Well, then we should probably set up a plan for when Feran comes." Vivian's face brightened once again.

" By the way mom, I awakened a while ago."

Vivian then covered her mouth in shock." That's another thing we gotta tell Feran about!"

" Vivian, I'm home!" Feran came inside the house.

" Oh, Feran I just finished cooking!"

" Welcome back Feran." Susan smiled as Feran looked at her in shock.

" Susan! Tell me you didn't help cooking?" It seemed like he wasn't shocked at all after seeing his little sister he last saw three years ago.

" I know my cooking is horrible but no I did not help. Your son did."

" He can cook?"

" It happens when his mother is Vivian."

Feran then sat by the long dinner table followed by Susan and Vivian. Xavier then lowered Feran's food in front of him," Your food, dad."

" Thanks." Only by looking at the pie, Feran began to drool.

Everyone else sat at the table with one thing in common, they all watched Feran. Feran became confused so he asked something as stupid as," Is there something on my face?"

" Nothing other than Pie," Susan said.

Vivian then said," Xavier awakened today."

Feran then looked at Susan with narrowed eyes," I'm guessing you helped out with that."

" She did a fantastic job." Xavier pointlessly said.

" Is there something I'm missing here?" Vivian then looked at them confusedly.

Feran changed the topic," Your pies are great, when did you get so good at making them?"

" Xavier made them."

" Oh. Well, Xavier, since you can use magic now I can train you at using ice magic. So how good are you at it?"

" He's a natural." Susan interrupted.

" That's expected," Feran replied.

" Feran, there's something I have to tell you."

" What is it?"

" I'm pregnant!"

Feran then dropped his cup of tea. Then he looked around and was able to find out that both Susan and Xavier already knew. He then spun his head back to her," Well, I hope it's not a girl."

Vivian then pinched Feran. " Ouch! How long have you noticed?"

Vivian smiled and said," A month now, I was getting a little impatient so I told Xavier and Susan. That's how we decided on setting up this whole thing."

" Oh, well, that's good news." Feran's face darkened.

" You should have at least told me earlier. I thought you were my precious wife?"

" It's about time I left." Susan then got up from her chair.

" Why can't you stay longer?" Vivian asked.

" I finished my task, I got free food and helped you out. Isn't it about time I leave?" She then turned to Xavier," If you want to be an adventurer I'd recommend you get stronger and older first."

' She's quick!'

Susan then left and they all said their farewells.
