Chapter 5: Isekai: Into Underworld

From the beginning, I was very scared and confused. I didn't know what to do because of that, I just followed that person's words. I didn't think that person wasn't Max. I just thought that going to the Jam Bar would make me meet Max. I always thought it was easiest to find him there. When I got out of the Jam Bar, I thought someone was following me but I wasn't sure, so I ignored it and kept walking to his house. When I saw it, I was relieved and I could only say things that had been repeated in my mind. If my mother were a whore, then I would be like her. I'll repay her for leaving me like this. So is my determination. When he said my mother wasn't a prostitute, my tears spilled. Finally, someone told me something I believed in. In my little heart, I couldn't believe that my mother was a whore, but when people called her that, I might start to feel betrayed and upset about it. Fortunately, Max took my words seriously in a way I didn't imagine. I've been re-thinking every single one of my actions since last night. I was really stupid and ashamed. Now, I feel pretty safe when Max says he'll involve me in his plans. However, I don't want to be left alone. I also wanted to discover the truth behind my mother's death with my eyes, said Elijah alone in the hearth.

Elijah acknowledged all of that with her mouth silent as she looked towards the garden. After admitting everything, she thought it was better to tell Max the things that bothered her while on the way to Max's house.

"Max..." Elijah called the man who was serving Fried Javanese noodles to the plate mysteriously.

Max, of course, raised his face.

"I remember something," Elijah said.

There was a look of intense concentration on her face.

"Okay," Max patiently wondered.

From the way Max responded, Elijah only found out that Max had been waiting for her to say things that she might have missed. It was fitting that he made her coffee, toast, and now Fried Javanese noodles complete with meatballs and sausages, it was all done so that Elijah felt more relaxed.

"Last night when I walked here, someone followed me, I think it's just my hallucinations because I don't think I'm being stalked."

Max's pushing a plate of Javanese noodles closer to her. Another plate was already in front of Max. Elijah could see from his face he was worried.

"You know what the person is like?"

Elijah shook her head.

"No, it was dark, that person also kept a distance from me until it became between there and nothing."

"Relax while eating. You haven't eaten since last night. After that take a shower and rest first for a while," Max advised while taking two forks. One placed it in front of Elijah.

"Try it," Max ate his noodles.

Seeing the way Max chewed, Elijah was tempted as well. She started eating.

"Strangely, in a situation that I didn't know was a big danger or could be missed quickly, food still felt important to my body. I can enjoy it. It was delicious." Elijah was happy.

After eating, Max did not ask Elijah to talk about the mystery of her missing bag or talk about her mother.

Meanwhile, Elijah feels Max already has a suspect and deliberately avoids both topics.

Now, Elijah is ready to take a shower. While rubbing the body with soap, Elijah noticed there was some kind of scar. She couldn't see it clearly because it was jutting from the back of her shoulder to her neck bone.

Did Max see it last night? Wait, but why didn't I know I had a wound like this? Since when did this exist?

Elijah hurriedly wears a bra and t-shirt on loan from Max. She ran down.

"Max!"

"Max!"

Elijah panicked. She has no response from Max.

"Max!"

The third call came in frustration.

Suddenly, Max emerged from behind her with a worried face.

Elijah was surprised not to hear Max's footsteps.

"Look at this Max!" said Elijah hurriedly.

She opened her shirt and showed the scars she had seen. Max approached her with a question mark face.

"What is it?" Elijah asked.

Max watched closely.

"What is it, Max?" Elijah became more impatience.

When Elijah look at Max's face, Elijah saw something different. She looked at those things in awe.

"Amazing, how did you make it? Is this a new kind of tattoo? But last night I didn't see it. Is this just made? No way, only about ten minutes we split up, not enough time to get a new tattoo. You know Max, your face was shining, now it's not, but I saw it a moment ago! Is it a new kind of tattoo? bluish lines on your face and arms. Now it's so vague, uh, why is that?" Elijah trying to reach Max's cheeks

"Tell me, what's it look like?" Max surprised by Elijah could see the spiritual line on his body. Especially right now, at his cheeks.

So, Elijah has that kind of eyes? Who is she? Max Wondered.

"I've never seen it. It looks like a beach wave, what is it?"

"Put your shirt on!"

"Ah sorry, I was too excited."

"You just saw it?"

Max makes Elijah wary.

"Is this something I should have had in the past or could have seen it in the past?"

Max's expression stunned Elijah. It's not a good time to joke. Max was more serious. Why is Max more worried about the current situation than before?

"I've never been hurt in this part. I once fell, the wound was on the knee and now it's gone."

Max looked at Elijah's knee. It made Elijah reflexively look at her knee, too.

"What does this have to do with my situation now? Shouldn't we look for my mother now? I mean looking for my mom's phone and finding the one who stole it?"

Max's confusion and worries that think the enemy came unnoticed and attacked Elijah now turn into a shock that had long been anticipated, but the actual event was not the same as his preparation.

Something had been suspecting for a long time and was hoping that suspicious things never came true. But now, the signs were appearing, but the pattern was still unclear for Max. Even so, the sign made him sure there was no need to hide everything from Elijah.

Without the word, Max flipped the body with a signal Elijah had to follow him. He delayed answering the curious Elijah in fear. He returned to the room where he had been before.

The room that had the scent of the spirit had never been shown to Elia. Normally people can't hear sounds from outside and vice versa, people from outside wouldn't know if there was activity underground.

The room served as a meditation room for Max. Passing a long run is a method for meditation in itself, up and down the stairs is part of his breathing meditation. Then when he entered his room that was underground, about four meters from the first floor of his house, it meant that his breathing was more regular, long and his movements felt much more like his existence. In a calm state, he could feel the sound waves, the vibrations made him know the activity at ground level.

"From earlier, you were here?" Elijah asked in a trembling voice. Max deliberately lets her shiver because Elijah has to get used to the underground aura.

"Yes, I've been here since then."

Max continued walking without looking. He could feel Elia's short breath. It wasn't the right kind of breathing to use in a cave like this, Max thought, but let it be, she would adjust. There's a lot she has to learn.

Max let Elia dwell with her thoughts and muttered variously while continuing to follow him. Once inside the room where he usually sits thinking, he starts to open his storage. The explosion box opened before his eyes and it made Elijah in amazement.

Max was on the other side of the table, while Elia stood on the other side with an enchanted face observing the explosion box.

"What is this? What does all this have to do with my mother?"

Max observed for a moment Elia's astonishment and then replied, "Those are the items that magicians, essentially those who use black magic. On the other hand, there were items needed by those who tried to hinder the power of black magic. On the other hand, there are items that the demon likes."

Elijah's round eyes glared in disbelief as Max explained the contents of his storage.

"You're kidding, aren't you?"

Under these conditions, Max was amazed by Elijah's attitude, because she still looks calm and can also express silly things.

"That's the reality. The stories you heard as a child, if you've heard them, then some of them are real."

"If you're trying to make me forget my mother, it's better to use more... um... Better reasons than this. The problem is... It's just for the kids, what serious is all this to do with my dead mother and the terror I feel? Heh? Then this, you've become strange since you saw the scar marks on my back! It would make more sense if you talked about it medically, maybe I have a deadly disease! I think I can take more than this! What is this, stealth, magicians? satanic? demon? magic?! Oh my GOD! Max..." said Elijah in disbelief.

Max doesn't respond to all her denials, but Max looks more concerned. It makes Eljah feel sorry.

"It's serious?? You mean, so... All of this is it all... around me??"

"Remember what happened to you. Is it true that you fall asleep because your mother gave you sleeping pills?"

Max looked at Elijah's face. It was clear at that moment that Elijah's mind was taking over her entire consciousness. For him, this was an opportunity to explain it slowly.

"Maybe you've experienced something, and then you've forgotten. It's natural because you're young. When you haven't realized being part of the underworld, then your memory erases some of the things you've done against your will, it could be a side effect of using force outside of your consciousness or an automatic system of self-protection."

Max takes a seat for Elijah. He also took a seat.

"Those things, some of them were collected by your mother."

Max stopped, realizing Elijah wasn't fully ready. He wait until Elijah could listen.

"Are you not human?"

Max chuckled at the question but sounds plain.

"Yes I am human, but not also."

Seeing Elijah's expression, there was a desire to tease her further. The problem is that this is not the right time for that.

"You're just like me," Max continued, "Half demon."

"How did that happen? It's easy, demons and humans are in relationships and have children."

Elia laughing.

Max thought she never realized her identity because her mother kept it a secret. There was something behind Elijah's birth.

"Okay, I'll try to accept all this. Then what creature is my mother? Demon? My father is human?"

"On the contrary, your mother is human."

Elijah's surprised face had become commonplace for Max now.

"The problem is who your father is. I've never seen a sign in such detail before. The pattern I know is a sign from the underground, but referring to which clan, I don't know yet."

Elijah groped the sign she had seen.

"I don't know who my father is either."

There was no way back. The dice are rolling, whoever starts fishing for things has a plan. Max is determined to find out.
