Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Godzilla doesn't give a damn about Humans

(TN: Guys, WFH is over for me now. So the updates will slower from now on)

"Buzz!!" Inside a wrecked bay, the silt-smothered nose of an internal combustion engine was plunging backwards onto the beach, leaking fuel mixed in with the seawater as the waves hit the shore in waves.

At that moment, two Xian VTOL transports from Atlas Corporations flew over the coastline.

"Nuclear warheads spotted." The sensors that came with the helmet of Atlas Corporation commander in command scanned the nukes obscured by silt and iron, but there was only one, the rest of them, all of them had gone into Muto's belly.

Atlas Corporation commando team that came out hoisted this last warhead while cleaning up the battlefield, and then spotted the mud-encrusted Rumlow.

"He's alive, help him~"

........ ...... ...

"Whew~" Ethan blew on the bowl of soup that was emitting steam.

After the recent duel, the army rushed to have a full meal, after all, there might not be the next meal.

"I hope it's to your liking." The Admiral said to Nick Fury, who was sitting opposite himself, as he absently cut into the roast in front of him.

"Of course, it's excellent." Fury didn't mind the other man's tone, but he didn't feel like eating, after all, the team he had sent out a while ago had been lost.

The only person eating happily was Ethan, who didn't leave anything behind from appetizer to dessert.

"Aren't you, at all, worried?" Maria Hill, who was sitting with Ethan, wondered.

"Worried about what?"

"The action afterwards."

"Why should I be worried? Agent Hill? The navy has mobilised nearly a hundred warships, the army has prepared countless guns and tanks, over a hundred thousand troops are gathered here." Ethan spooned himself a mouthful of sweet strawberry ice cream and continued vaguely, "And I have full confidence in Godzilla."

"Godzilla?" Maria Hill was a little baffled, it looked like the other man was interested in this Godzilla.

"Sir, Godzilla has appeared."

An officer rushed into the room, interrupting the group's lunch hour.

"Gentlemen, let's get moving."

...... ...... ...

They set sail again, despite knowing that the other side had EMP, the US army still sent in its air force with a stiff upper lip, but this time the US army thought thoroughly and urgently brought in several coalitions of F16s and F15s from elsewhere, after all, even the big dogs couldn't carry the loss of dozens of F22s a day.

The servant fleets from Japan, Australia and Canada followed the US warships as they assembled at San Francisco, while Atlas Corporations' electromagnetic gun arrays took up their position a dozen kilometres away.

Rumlow, who had changed into dry clothes and was carrying a laser locator, followed close behind a group of Atlas soldiers, and after being dug out of the mud, the Atlas medic denied his request to rest because he was uninjured, before turning his head and handing him over to the Atlas San Francisco combat team.

"You can't do this, I'm not in the same sequence as you, you have no right to force me."

"Mr Rumlow, if you're a man, come with us and let's take down that big guy, unless you're not a man, then naturally you can go home and sleep with a stripper in your arms, that's all you S.H.I.E.L.D. is capable of anyway." The leader of the Combat Squad taunted in a relentless electronic voice.

As much as he wanted to shoot the other man in the head, Rumlow finally relented; S.H.I.E.L.D. was a tough organization, not to mention Alexander Pierce's mission.

"So where are we going?"

"The high ground, the satellite will scan the ground and our laser locator will work with the satellite to build a model of the city and the exact location of the monster, which will eventually be sent back to the satellite."

"You guys have a lot of tricks up your sleeves."

"Technology changes destiny."

As the team entered the city, the San Francisco government gave a slight boost by evacuating two-thirds of the city's population in advance, while the remaining one-third were placed in the underground stations because it was too late, so the streets could be said to be free of obstruction.

As the army marched on, there was a sudden rumble of artillery in the distant sky.

"They're exchanging fire?"

"Yes, it looks like there's a lot of fighting going on. Get down." Rumlow, who had been craning his neck to watch the action, suddenly saw a Sea Sparrow missile from the Navy fall from the sky.

"Are they crazy, firing on the city?"

"No, they're attacking hostile targets." A sniper looked to the sky, then the male Muto wailed and fell from the sky.

"Quick, get up there." The commander looked at the huge ragged hole in Muto's wing, knowing full well that this was a good opportunity, and immediately ran to a nearby high point with everyone in tow.

"Rumlow, quick."

"Yes."

Rumlow removed the locator from his back and then activated the hydraulic column on the mount.

With a humming sound, the tripod quickly sank deeper into the concrete, then the laser locator hooded out a network of radiation that encompassed all of Muto and the streets in its vicinity, which was then uploaded to a satellite in space.

"Confirm position."

"Commence launch."

Hovering at 60,000 feet, Freedom adjusted its attitude with its twelve auxiliary jet engines, then the armour plate on its belly opened and a gun barrel protruded.

"Three rounds of proof fire."

Like Zeus' thunderbolt, three projectiles came out of the chamber, piercing the thick dark clouds, cutting through the bay where Godzilla was fighting, and then shooting at Muto who was on the ground about to lick his wounds.

"Holy shit." Rumlow only felt a flash before his eyes, then one of the Muto's wings was hit again, the huge kinetic warhead ripping right through its wing membrane, slicing open the left-wing in the process, leaving only a piece of bone attached to it.

Then a second and a third shot fell again, but these two did not hit the fallen Muto, who was limping but hit the building behind it.

"Ah, this." The people stared dumbfounded at the buildings that had fallen one after the other.

The atmosphere in the entire squad instantly became off, and the soldiers of Atlas Corporations froze for a few seconds before turning their heads to look at the only outsider.

"This was Muto's doing, I saw it with my own eyes. Today we must wipe out this monster that is causing so much trouble." Rumlow said with a gurgle and a swallow before swearing an oath of conviction.

The male Muto fell to the ground and kept hissing, as a big prehistoric monster, its recovery is naturally not bad but this is the first time it encountered a situation where its wings were torn apart.

He hadn't even fought Godzilla yet, and he was already in this state. The male Muto was also intelligent and knowing that he was at a disadvantage he struggled to his feet and then sent a sonic wave deeper into the mists.

The Muto's sound waves were soon answered by another shaking of the earth and the female Muto, who was looking for a nesting site outside San Francisco, was immediately upset.

So the female Muto, who was digging a hole, immediately stopped her work and crashed headlong into the bustling city of San Francisco.

With a belly full of eggs in tow, she was like a tank, flattening buildings and crossing water, and carving out a canal for San Francisco.

The team of guides were not at peace at the moment, and as if sensing that they were the culprits guiding the attack, the male Muto forced himself to stand up and then used his triangular head as a door-breaking hammer to carry out the demolition.

"Run, run, run." The panicked squad fled in a mad scramble, with Rumlow mixed in with them, dropping all his equipment and just carrying the locator.

"Fire, fire."

The roaring machine guns and RPGs rained down on Muto's face, causing him to scream

Each member equipped with an exoskeleton, the squad had three heavy firearms per man.

"Spread out, spread out, Rumlow, get in position, we'll draw it away." After running a good two blocks away, the Atlas Corporation commander knew this was not the way to go, he had to distract this guy.

"Are you guys crazy?" Rumlow was sweating, the locator was also an instrument weighing dozens of pounds and running with the thing on his back was grinding work.

"We are Atlas." The captain tossed Rumlow a pistol and ran off in the other direction with his team.

"Atlas?" Rumlow silently committed the words to memory before carrying his locator and running headlong towards an intact building not far away.

"Okay, turn on the laser and start locating." Listening to the intermittent gunfire not far away, Rumlow forced himself to calm down, then operated the locator as he had learned to do before.

"Come on, fire the guns, quick." After confirming that it had started working, Rumlow raised his head from time to time, waiting for the surprise that came from the sky.

Freedom didn't keep Rumlow waiting for long, the electromagnetic cannon roared again and the projectile flashed again, hitting Muto in the back and inflicting an unbelievably large wound, corrosive blood gushing out.

"Well done, come on, give the son of a bitch a few more hits."

Once again wounded, Muto became even more ferocious and attacked the Atlas Corporation squad with even more fury, several soldiers had already fallen and the remaining ones would not last long.

Perhaps aware of the squad's peril, Freedom Combined Battleship fired several waves in quick succession, but because of the obstruction of the tall buildings, the hits were touching, and only a few grazing rounds hit Muto's torso and sliced him in two.

This time Mutoh finally couldn't carry the load and his massive body leaned forward and smashed into the building where the remaining Atlas squad was located before collapsing to the ground with the building.

"No." Rumlow dropped the locator and ran towards the building.

"No, no, no, no." Rumlow saw Atlas Corporation captain who had taunted him collapse motionless in the rubble, his face armour smashed to pieces, leaving only a very sweet and bloodless face.

Only then did Rumlow realize that the other person was a female.

"You bastard~" Rumlow, who had thought he would be unfazed, was surprisingly angry, and compared to his opponent's sacrifice, Rumlow suddenly felt that some of the things he had done before were stupid.

At that moment, Muto suddenly had a tendency to get up, and Rumlow pulled out his pistol and pulled the trigger on Mutuo, who was nearby.

The 9mm slug couldn't penetrate Muto's skin even at zero range, but it provoked his ferocity.

Muto opened its mouth and tried to bite at the Rumlow before a bolt of lightning from the sky exploded in its mouth.

"What?"

With a flash of lightning in front of Rumlow's eyes, he saw what appeared to be an oddly shaped war hammer on Muto's head, with a golden skull emblazoned on the side of the hammerhead.

"This guy doesn't look indestructible." Ethan glanced at the remains of his men and sighed, still too late.

After setting off from the makeshift camp for fear of an EMP attack, Ethan had not opted for a flying machine, but had driven all the way, but was still a little short of schedule in the nick of time.

"Your name is Rumlow, Right?" Ethan opened his left hand and the Warhammer that had been attached to the sub-dimensional division magic by Ancient One flew back to him.

"You are?" Rumlow looked at the man in front of him, wearing an exoskeleton armour that resembled the ancient knight's armour, while his face was covered in a golden mask, his whole figure resembling a mythical knight from the Holy Grail.

"I am their commander." Ethan removed his helmet and crouched down, ripping off the identity tags of his captain and the other fallen.

"Let's go, the battle isn't over yet." Ethan picked up a bazooka full of ammunition and handed it to Rumlow.

"What?"

"Look." Ethan pointed to the back of the building, where another huge shadow slowly appeared amidst the thick fog.

It was the female Muto, and sensing the death of her mate, she went berserk, rushing recklessly towards her mate's corpse, her frenzied power almost cracking the building, wave after wave of EMP blasts destroying every electronic device within a dozen kilometres.

"What are we going to do about this guy?" Rumlow shouldered his bazooka and fired four rounds at Muto's head.

"No, we don't have to do it." Ethan turned to look behind himself at the Godzilla, blackened even more by gunpowder and explosions, strutted majestically and determinedly, his sharp eyes fixed deadly on the female Muto across the street.

"ARRGHH!!" Godzilla and Muto were already mortal enemies, and now that another Muto was dead, there was no way Godzilla would let this opportunity pass.

And so, the two monstrous beasts of immense size were about to engage in a duel of life and death that had spanned countless eras.

Two big guys with tens of thousands of tons fighting in the city are like twenty wild boars vaulting your vegetable garden.

"What's that?" Rumlow suddenly spotted countless half-metre high transparent spheres at Muto's lower abdomen, glowing a demonic orange-red.

"Her eggs, this one was originally looking for to have a baby." Ethan reopened the locator and pointed it at the female Muto's abdomen.

"Mr Hunt, it looks like you guys know a lot about these guys?"

"What, finally a place where you S.H.I.E.L.D. can't get involved?" Ethan laughed.

"Look at you, we at S.H.I.E.L.D. are just a very ordinary organization, much like the NSA or the CIA."

"The CIA can't afford to buy a multi-billion dollar airborne warship, and they can't get a nuclear bomb."

"We're just an ordinary organisation anyway."

"So I wonder if you have any desire to jump ship, how much does Director Fury pay you guys a month?"

"It's okay, you can think about it, you'll be more comfortable in the Atlas than S.H.I.E.L.D. We're still preparing to build a super-soldier to rival Captain America."

The dense barrage came again, thanks to the previous battle between the two big guys destroying the building in all its glory, this time the barrage from Freedom easily enveloped Muto, although the projectile only hit Mutoh's back armour as it was not well placed.

Pained, Mutoh tried to leave, only to have Godzilla squeeze its neck to keep it from leaving while exposing Muto's abdomen.

"This guy, he's intelligent?"

"In terms of intelligence, it's no worse than a human."

Another round of blows came, and this time the female Muto, who had been locked up by Godzilla's strong man, was not so lucky, her huge belly was ripped open by the projectile, and scarlet slurry spurted out like a flood, covering the entire street, with the bodies of many young Mutos in between.

The grieving female Muto struggled to free herself from Godzilla's grip and tried to look back at her children, but Godzilla didn't give her the chance, grabbing Muto's head with two claws, ripping his mouth wide open and then spitting a mouthful of the atomic spit of about the same magnitude as a nuclear explosion, sprayed into Muto's body with a raging blue light.

Atomic Spit, Godzilla's big move, is essentially a mobile bioreactor that converts nuclear atoms into thermonuclear energy by causing them to fuse, which is so hot that Godzilla doesn't use it until he has to.

Not so with Muto, whose body could not withstand such energy, and whose flesh was ablated, organs incinerated and finally burned through its flesh, burning up its shell.

Carrying the small half of Muto's head, Godzilla let out a roar before it caught sight of Ethan, standing at the top of the building watching him.

"Are we going to run?" Rumlow swallowed, but both legs couldn't stop trembling.

"There's no need." Ethan looked at Godzilla who was leaning over and gathered a sliver of psychic flame and tossed it to the other man, he wanted to try to see if he could communicate with him on that, but instead, his psychic senses came back that Godzilla didn't care about the humans at all.

"What?" Ethan grunted twice, Godzilla's attitude towards humans was indeed like that, that even though the American fleet had chased and punched it for quite some time, Godzilla hadn't done anything retaliatory and instead had deflected a round of fire from the children who had almost been mistakenly injured on the Golden Gate Bridge.

The real change in his attitude towards humans was also due to the fact that Dr Serizawa had later sacrificed his ego to give it a magic fix, but even then, Godzilla had finished beating up Ghidorah, he went back to his home and didn't dally with the humans much.

"Why don't we talk about it and give you a nuke a day?" Ethan, still undeterred, tried to bribe him.

The result was that Godzilla simply spat out a sizzling snort, then with a flick of his tail, took a few steps in the direction of the sea before collapsing with a crash.

"It's over." Ethan pulled out his flare gun and pulled the trigger into the sky, the battle was over and it was time to start the aftermath.

...... ...... ...

The next morning just as the sky cleared, an unidentified convoy of black GM premium SUVs made their way through the rubble of the streets and alleys, past the firemen and soldiers scouring the rubble for possible victims, to the scene of the duel between Godzilla and Muto.

"Quick, pull up a perimeter and get those people out of the way, this place is being taken over by S.H.I.E.L.D.."

Alexander Pierce, dressed in a clean and neat suit, stepped out of the car with a pinched brow, next to him were several similarly dressed S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and the convoy unloaded a large amount of equipment personnel.

"What's wrong with you guys?" The firefighters, busy with their work, cursed and were driven away, while the US soldiers gathered around with a grimace.

Ethan had by now shed his exoskeleton armour and replaced it with a work suit; Atlas Corporation's disaster damage management unit had arrived on the scene last night and commandeered several of San Francisco's stadiums and plazas to set up a holding camp, and naturally, Ethan had worked with them all night.

"You guys aren't interested in that guy?" Nick Fury, who was also watching the show with Ethan had done nothing to help S.H.I.E.L.D. this time and ended up taking the credit for running the fastest, which was a bit embarrassing.

"Are you sure that guy is really dead?" Ethan wasn't worried at all about the division of the loot, the Imperial Organization had already decided to enter into a partnership with Atlas Corporations, so naturally, the results of the scientific research were shared, otherwise, he would have had the fleet come over and take the monster's body away last night.

"What do you mean?" Looking at Ethan's rather meaningful smile, Fury's heart thumped.

"Look. Someone's going down." Ethan pointed to a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who had the audacity to walk towards Godzilla with a cutter.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Pierce had brought with him had indeed done their homework before arriving, the agents wore suits but had all the tools they needed for gas mask busting, except they had misjudged one thing and that was that Godzilla was just tired of fighting and had fallen down to sleep.

The agent holding the cutting saw aloft had just started the machine when he sensed something was wrong, the guy in front of him, appeared to be moving?

"I said, this is a Council mandate, so you should leave." Pierce, who was arguing with the American troops, heard a ground-shaking roar behind him.

The Godzilla had somehow risen from the rubble and was leering at the shivering pile of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents at his feet.

"Which son of a bitch said this guy was dead?" The group of agents, not daring to breathe, locked eyes with Godzilla for a few moments before Godzilla let out another thunderous roar and, with a flick of his tail, headed in the direction of the sea.

"Sir, what do we do?"

"I ..." Pierce turned his head to look around, and after noticing that the American troops and firefighters who had gathered around had dispersed to get about their business, he could only wave his hand in a disconsolate manner, signalling for all personnel to leave.

"Is this it?" Ethan casually dropped a brick, "I thought you guys were going to pull out your invincible super weapons and take that guy out."

"That day will come, Mr Hunt. Till then, goodbye." With that said Fury also jumped in the car, he still had to rush back to Washington to write his detailed combat report.

As the S.H.I.E.L.D. the convoy left the city, another convoy appeared on the horizon, but this one was made up of heavy-duty trucks, a long convoy that could not be seen at a glance, and on the trucks had large Atlas logos painted on them.

Atlas Corporation's disaster damage control unit had arrived.

"Beep." Atlas Corporation soldiers directing traffic through the rubble blew their whistles and waved their instruction sticks to guide the convoys entering the city to different areas according to their different missions.

San Francisco, Levi's Stadium, being large enough, was turned by Ethan into a temporary settlement where San Francisco citizens returning to the city and those who hadn't left would first gather for a physical examination and then receive a ration and drinking water.

With the rumble of trucks, dozens of trucks rolled into the car park, which had been transformed into an artificial lawn, and then the back of the trucks was lowered and soldiers in white suits and masks jumped out and removed the supplies.

The supplies were quickly transformed into a variety of facilities, medical centres, water purification equipment, kitchens, and toilets and bathrooms, while all the doctors and nurses on duty in the name of the San Francisco city government were called upon by Atlas Corporations to check the health of the inhabitants, test the city for radiation residues, and administer vaccinations to the citizens.

In short, to confirm the completion of specific information about each citizen's body before the inspection by Atlas Corporations would be completed.

On the other side, more than a dozen field kitchens were set up on the spot, pots of boiling pure water turned into coffee or hot tea were distributed to the cold and hungry citizens, and to the right of the tea cooker was where the food was being distributed.

After spending two days to make sure that the radiation left by the monster would soon disappear, the US army sent four C17 transport planes to broadcast the decontamination solution in the air, followed by dozens of construction companies that had accepted orders from the federal government, after all, San Francisco was also considered an important town in the US and contributed a lot of GDP every year, so the federal government intended to complete the reconstruction of the city in three months.

Ethan could only express his dismay at this plan, after all, the US not only had to rebuild the city, but also the fleet.

When Godzilla arrived at the Golden Gate Bridge, a destroyer fired the first shot at Godzilla, whereupon all the ships instantly fired their guns and the two sides fought fiercely, but in the end, the US lost its troops and Godzilla did nothing.

In short, after the three big guys had wreaked havoc on the country, the whole United States was in a very bad state, finances were tight, the government was shirking its responsibilities, and the civilians were unsettled, with mass marches breaking out in several major cities on the west coast, as well as in the surviving east coast cities like Seattle and Los Angeles, where people were protesting against the government for hiding the truth about the monsters and causing casualties.

Not only in the US, but also in Japan, where ordinary people were protesting that nuclear power plants were too dangerous and so on, but fortunately a high official knelt down and apologised, so the furore in Japan soon died down, but it intensified in the US and spread to Europe, and people marched in to preach that a monster's life was also life.

After learning that Atlas was involved in military action, the Atlas branch in London was surrounded by a bunch of performance artists before a few dozen security guards took care of the guys.

In the process, a couple of not-so-brainy activists got their hands on the security, so human rights groups, which receive a lot of money, jumped in and accused the activists of racism.

"Fight fire with fire." Ethan didn't really give those guys a second thought.

In terms of disgustingness, these guys were so far behind the cults in Montana that even the pirates in the Caribbean couldn't compare.

"Boss, the car is ready."

"Okay."

Ethan followed John down the corridor, the monsters hadn't even been cleaned up yet, the city of San Francisco was about to throw a celebration party and naturally Ethan was invited.

"Feels like the streets are so quiet today." John strutted ahead, "No fire service or ambulance on the streets either."

"Probably the clean up is done." Ethan blurted out, "Looks like you're having a good day?"

"That's for sure, there's no big monster in the sky dropping nukes out of its mouth, we Atlas are once again ahead of our time, and I've got to step up my game to do it."

"Yes, as long as we keep going, everything we've been doing is meaningful." After saying this, Ethan suddenly decided that the scene was déjà vu, like it was engraved in his DNA.

"Ugh, no?" After walking out the door, Ethan subconsciously looked to the other side of the street, but there were only houses with their roofs lifted and no black limousines, so he disappointedly got into a Hummer escorted by the San Francisco National Guard.

It was clear that the San Francisco government attached great importance to the party, and the guests were mostly council members and businessmen, and the main theme of the party was one, San Francisco needed everyone's generosity.

Atlas Corporations usually invest in heavy industry or electronics, and most of these industries in San Francisco are on the outskirts of the city, which were intact during the fighting, and the bigger losses were in the service industry.

So Ethan took John to a corner and sat down to enjoy a high standard buffet of food.

Ethan poured himself a large glass full of 80-year-old French red wine.

"That's not how you drink wine." A flirtatious voice suddenly rang out, and Ethan knew it was Stark without even looking up.

The latter was walking leisurely with two bejewelled celebrities in his arms, and it looked like it should be another busy night.

"Why are you here?"

"San Francisco is in ruins, and the Stark Group is a committed company, so it's only natural that it should step up to its social responsibilities at times like this."

"So that's why you bought the building that Muto's body is crushed in?"

"No, it's mainly because that building is in a good location."

"I see, I'll have the engineering team move the body to make room for you." Ethan pretended to pull out his phone.

"I ..." Stark could not wait to cop a drink and give the other man a scoop.

As the only superhero in the United States of America at the moment, Stark had thought a lot about the monsters after they appeared, this time relying on Godzilla and the army to destroy the two guys but what about next time?

"So what do you want with that Muto's body?"

"Research, it's the first time I've ever known of such a prehistoric monster that fed on nuclear energy and could unleash EMP blasts, a big guy tens of metres tall, it's all a treasure."

"Aren't you an expert in mechanical physics? How come you're interested in creatures too?"

"Because I'm Iron Man." Stark waved his hand smugly, with a look like I was the best.

"Mr Strak is our only hope."

A celebrity on the side duly delivered an assist.

"Tell me straight, what the hell do you want?" Ethan crossed his legs and pinned his hands together on his chin.

"I think it would be necessary for us to make some preparations for any monsters that might appear later." Stark pulled the holographic projector out of his pocket and projected the huge figure of Muto.

"The battle of Atlas Corporations has inspired me, that big battleship of yours looks impressive, but not as impressive as my battle armour, except for that cannon of course." Stark flicked his finger and the projector appeared this time as a huge humanoid mech.

"You're building this?" Ethan puffed up in amusement.

"What, is it bad?" Stark fiddled with his moustache, looking slightly puzzled.

"The humanoid is a heretic, a piece of scrap metal." Ethan looked at the projection and shook his head, then arched an eyebrow, "Come on, let me give you some professional advice from a professional military perspective."

Ethan took the projector, then switched to edit mode himself and wrote and drew.
