Chapter 3: The truth she never knew

Dear Rochelle,

I know that we have not always been on the best of terms and I never understood why. I have always tried my best to be the best sister I could for you but I guess it wasn't good enough since your hatred for me only grew with time.

I am writing this as I might never get the chance to say what I need to say in person. You were always the best person that I knew, a little lost but the best. I know you have the potential to be legendary if only you stop quitting everything you start.

You are the other half of me and I can't always be watching out for you. Over and over again I have spoken to different companies to get you a job as I have always done, but it gets hard to do so when they check your history and see how fast you lose a job.

That is why I have decided to give you the only job that I know you can't be fired from. Being me."

Rochelle stopped reading the letter. She was suffocating, it was true, she always found it weird that companies hired her without even conducting an interview of her.

She knew there were those who deserved the post she got and that she was sometimes under qualified for the jobs she got. She always thought that it was luck that she got a job without even trying so hard. But it seemed that the woman she cursed so much had been her luck all along.

But of course she too had been wrong, she had gotten cocky with her luck and kept on losing all the chances that were thrown at her.

She fell to the ground with the letter in her hand. She hugged her knees, in her sister's dress, standing in her house she could feel worse. She had been a terrible sister and because of her reckless decision to end her life, her sister was gone forever.

She didn't have the heart to finish ready g the letter. The few that she had read was enough to make her see how baseless her hatred gad been.

If anyone was unlucky to have been born with a twin. It was Raya, she had to deal with an embarrassment such as herself as a sister. She could hear the sound of her heartbeat, her sister's heart, she didn't feel like she deserved it.

Raya was the better half of her that she always needed whether she knew it or not. Her sister never abandoned her like she thought, she was just too stupid to see the signs of how much her sister loved her.

But now it was too late and even if she wanted to say that she was sorry, she couldnt. Her sister was no longer alive for her to apologise to.

She folded the letter well and kept in back on the table. She didn't have the heart to hear any more sacrifices that her sister made for her sake. She had made a wish to destroy her sister but her life was destroyed instead.

She felt Ander's reaction to be right. She always spoke harshly of her sister and even then, she went out of her way to help her and protect her.

"Ma'am, are you awake yet," she heard a female voice coming from the door. She wiped her tears and got up from the floor.

"Give me a minute," she said in a brittle tone. More tears threatened to fall from her eyes, she blinked them away, she changed into another dress that wasn't torn and went to open the door.

She opened the door, the head maid of the house stood there with her breakfast and a pair of changing clothes and a bath towel. She had two more maids helping her with everything.

"Ma'am, I know it's hard for you right now. Waking up to the news of your sister's passing but you did your best for her," the head maid said. She placed the breakfast on a table beside the door and gave Rochelle a hug.

"You never lacked in loving your sister and I know that you are not to blame for her situation," she added. She patted Rochelle's back repeatedly.

Rochelle couldnt hold back her tears anymore, everyone knew how much her sister loved her except for her. It was her laziness and need to get rich quickly without having to work. Her desire to live a life that wasn't meant for her that brought her to where she was.

Her failure was always her fault. But having someone to blame always felt better and made her feel less of a loser. When that was exactly what she was. She cried her heart out to a maid she once looked down on because she worked for her sister. And took comfort in her arms like she would a mother.

"There, let it out. It will make you feel better," the maid said. The other two servants put the things they carried down and joined the hug. They couldn't stand to see their madam sad.

"We missed you so much while you slept. When Sir told us that you are awake, we came rushing," they said.

Rochelle didn't expect them to be so free with her. They thought she was Raya and acted as such as thought it was to her. She had always thought her sister to be someone who could never spare a glance to those beneath her.

But the maids seemed like a part of her family and not her servants. She wondered just how much she had misread her sister, her eyes were always clouded with envy that she couldnt see her twin for who she was, a good person.

"Let's get you in bed. You are still not strong enough to be moving around," the head maid said. They broke the hug, the head maid held her and helped her back to the bed.

When she first woke up, she was excited to have a chance to sleep in such a bed but after seeing the price she had to pay in order to get it, she was no more in the mood to enjoy anything.

'If only I wasn't so stupid and so blinded,' she thought sadly.
