Chapter 2: Lento

I came back to the farm. I looked out to the field. In the far distance there was a forest. I walked up to the door but the old man was nowhere to be seen. "Help!". I sprinted to where I heard the old man's voice. Two soldiers stood. Their mouths were wide open, revealing their sharp teeth and red tongues. On the ground, surrounded by a pool of blood was a half eaten corpse. I turned back and dashed away. I didn't bother to look back. If I did, I'd end up like mom's fake. I leapt over the fence and ran towards the forest. I could hear the soldiers gasping for air. I reached the forest and looked back. They were on the floor, not moving an inch, dead.

I turned back and went deeper into the forest. Why were the soldiers chasing us, the government should've killed them. I looked up and saw a small, shallow lake. In it a boy laid down. He looked the same age as the old man's daughter. His eyes were a bright red which stared aimlessely at the sky. I slowly approached him. His eyes quickly shifted to focus on me. "W-who...are...you" he said. He sounded like a baby trying to talk but looked far older. "I am...". I was stunned. What was my name again. "Call me boy for now", I said still confused. He slowly got up. I looked at the water, it was perfectly still. "O-k... I'm.....H-han" he said extending his hand out to me. I tried to shake his hand but it phased through. I tried again and again to no avail. "What are you" I asked stepping back. "I...don't....know" he said pulling his hand back. I picked up a small rock and came closer to him. "Can you pick this up?" I asked giving it to him. He held it with no problem. I got out of the lake. "Lets try to shake hands again" I said reaching out. He stumbled out of the lake and it's colour slowly changed to green. "Ok... b-boy" he said. He reached out and we shook.

"Ok so where are you from Han?". He stared at me with a blank expression. He sat down and looked like he was thinking. "I... don't... know" he said getting back up. I walked across the lake and looked back to see if he was following me. He was but he was painfully slow. As he trudged through the shallow lake, it slowly turned blue. Each step he took didn't affect the lake in any way. I stared at him, could he be a... god. He crossed the lake and got slightly faster. I wandered through the forest until I reached the other side. It was a huge field. "Empty yet beautiful" as my mom would say. I gazed at it before snapping back to reality. I slid down the hill and looked back up. "Try it too, it's fun!". Han slowly walked and rather than sliding down, he looked like he tripped. He landed next to me and I got up. I looked around and saw a big tower. "Hey do you wanna go there!" I said pointing at the tower. He slowly nodded and began to walk through the grass. It was completely isolated so I assumed that it was probably some rich family's house. That was good, it meant that we could maybe get a job and and I could finally get a guitar or a house. We reached the house.

At the gate, two guards stood each had a revolver in hand and kept a hand in their pocket. "Umm hi can we get a job here" I asked weakly. The guards head snapped and he shook his head. He looked back up, "Wait until either the lord or madam arrive but, for now we can't let you in unless you have a famila card". I sighed and turned back. "Let's go Han, we're gonna have to wait a bit" I said walking into the woods. I leaned against a big rock. I had no knowledge of this place and it's wilderness. These rich snobs would probably take a day to a week or two and in that time, I could die of no water.

I walked around and collected some sticks and rocks. Me and Han decided to stay at a place close to the tower so that we could see the madam or the lord. I made the campfire and so now we needed to hunt. I walked over to the river I'd seen while collecting sticks and stones. Across me there was some sort of boar with red skin. "Don't kill the Calydonian boar, we have no buisness with it. I turned around to see Han staring at it. How could he speak so fluently. "Oh ok". Who was Han. "You may touch it for it has been sent to ravage another's land" he said gently pushing me towards it. I slowly walked across the river until I was face to face with thee boar. I looked back and saw Han collapse. "Father no please, I beg you to let me be with her!" he yelled. He held onto his head like a madman and shrieked as if he was being stabbed by a spear. "Han!" I yelled running towards him. He turned to me, "Oh...boy...it...is...you" he said grinning.

"Y-yea but what happened to you?" I said scared. Who was he, who was her and... who was father. He got up and shook his head. I looked across the river and didn't see the red boar anymore and the once blue river had turned into an acidic green. As he set foot in it, it turned blue again. He laid down and let his eyes wander into the sky.

"Boy...join...me". I walked and trying to not make any ripples, laid down next to him. "I'm...trying...to...find...her...in...the...sky...waters...or...in...the...souls" he said softly.

"I'm trying to find my mom" I said. She was alive, she could never die from those soldiers. He slowly turned to face me. "What...is...her...name?" he asked. I paused. I wasn't sure. I forgot everyone's name. "I don't remember, but when we reach my house I'll remember" I said embarrassed. How could I forget my own mom's name. "I...don't...remember...my...mother...or...father...name...either" he said staring back at the sky.

After three days, the Madame came out. Besides her where two people, presumably her kids. They were about Han's age and had eyes that were familiar, like the elder's. I rushed through the bushes and got on my knees, "Madame, me and my brother have been searching for work, our parents have been slaughtered and now we must live on our own so please, give us a job!". She looked down at me and as she passed by said, "no". I was gutted. Three painful days wasted just for this. "Wait mom, let him work for me I'll hire him" said the boy. I looked up. She simply shrugged and kept walking. "Now you're under me, bring your brother along too" he said reaching out his hand. "What's your name and your brother's name?" he said shaking my hand.

"My brother's name is Han" I said as he emerged from the thick bushes, "And I'm... I don't know my name, just call me, Boy"

"Ok but one day think of a name, something dear to you, that's your first order"
