Chapter 7: Ch. 7 Foraging

As the pain finally subsided, Gabriel began to thank Emmie profusely. He could feel his wings were quite sore and he could've broken them without Emmie gently restraining him.

"What happened? Are you okay Gabriel?" Worried, Emmie began to look him over, checking to ensure nothing was broken or needed bandaged.

"I am fine. Made mistake."

"Mistake? What mistake?"

"Keep Secret?"

"Okay little one, keep your secrets for now." Giggling, Emmie dropped the subject rather easily making Gabriel less stressed out. He didn't know how to explain he could learn an entire book just by touching it. It was an ungodly power, even with the drawbacks. After flying back up to the top of her bag, Gabriel laid out for a nice sunlit nap.

After a few hours Gabriel woke up from his recovery nap. Realizing he had lost half the day to his mistake, Gabriel quickly stretched, preened, and prepared for some flying. Finally, some non stressed flight time to get a better hold of his new life as a bird. Before he got ready to take off he remembered, he never checked what happened after he assimilated the Winslow's Wind Spells for kids.

'Abilities:

Language Mimic

Extreme Comprehension

Leaf on the wind

Skills:

Wind Blade - Beginner

Wind Manipulation - Beginner'

(Holy shit, an ability and two skills! Now we're getting somewhere!) Looking over his new ability, he felt like all the pain was worth it.

'Leaf on the Wind

You've begun to see the wind for what it is. With your natural ability of flight, you are perfect suitor for wind type abilities. +10% Wind Skill strength/flight speed'

(This is amazing. Just because I'm a bird and I learned some wind magic I gained an ability that supports not only my wind spells, but my flight speed? Maybe if I master wind spells I can fly faster than a bullet!) Getting even more excited he quickly scrolled down to his skills and began to read up on them.

'Wind Blade

By compressing the wind, you create enough pressure to make a physical manifestation of the wind. Becomes sharper as you increase your mastery.

Wind manipulation

You've comprehended the very beginning of the essence of wind. You are now able to use wind spells and are able to barely manipulate air currents.'

(This girl is a godsend. She fed me. Gave me water. A warm place to sleep. Even gave me all this knowledge, albeit she doesn't know it, for free. I'd have been a goner without this lucky encounter.) Thanking his lucky stars profusely, Gabriel started to make a plan.

(First, I have to learn how to fly better. While I'm practicing flying, I'll practice my wind manipulation and wind Blade. After I've got the hang of it, I'll try hunting.) With a plan in mind, Gabriel chirped at Emmie to get her attention.

"Go fly for bit, be back soon."

"Okay Gabriel, be safe."

Hearing her reply Gabriel unfurled his wings and jumped off the back her pack. After gaining some altitude, he attempted to start manipulating the air currents. To his surprise it came to him rather easily. After learning how to change the current so he could fly without flapping his wings, basically gliding forever, he picked out a tree and made a quick landing.

(Time to try this Wind blade out.) Picking a smaller tree nearby, Gabriel began to try casting his wind Blade. After several attempts and no casting happening he decided to ask the system what he was doing wrong.

'Host is not visualizing the wind blade. Host attempting to cast without visualization will result in failures to cast 100% of the time.'

(So it's not as easy as learn and cast. I have to still put in some effort I guess. Even if I learn it from a book, without actually visualizing the spell in action I'll never be able to cast it. Makes sense.) Re-reading the description of wind blade again, Gabriel took a different approach this time. He began to imagine wind swirling in a circle at a high speed. He began to imagine all that swirling wind being forced into a smaller area. He kept this image in his mind, refining and compacting the wind until it finally became a small disc of wind. Slightly thicker than a frisbee and about 10cm in diameter, this disc didn't look like a wind blade. Trying to cast out the spell Gabriel failed again.

(The Hell! I visualized it getting compressed, why didn't it work? Is it because it was a disc and not a blade?) Jumping to conclusions quickly, he decided it had to be the shape. Why else wouldn't it cast? He did everything else like he was supposed to, why didn't it work? He began visualizing again, creating his compressed wind disc he imagined the disc being pulled in opposite directions. Stretching it out thinner and longer. What was a 10cm disc, has now a 15cm blade. More like a knife, but a blade nonetheless. With that wind blade image in his mind, he pushed the image towards the tree.

*Swoosh*

The wind blade came into existence right in front of him and shot off towards the small tree he had been focusing on. As the wind blade got closer he heard a notification, but ignored it wanting to see the results of his effort. *Crack* The blade slammed against the tree directly chopping it in half as it was even 5cm in diameter. As the tree fell down, Gabriel shook his tail feathers and raised his wings up in the air. Hitting his little celebratory dance, he checked the notification that went off.

'Broken- Standard realm has advanced to Broken - Mastered realm. Experience bar added for Realm advancement.'
