Chapter 15: CHAPTER FIFTEEN:She's a gold digger!
Hazel could swear she heard wrongly from Mrs.Knights,she turned towards her only to get a smile on her face,smiling and raising her eyebrows to look straight into her son's eyes as if daring her son to challenge her.
What has she gotten herself into?
Hazel thought,unable to find her words to stop this whole thing,even the grandpa and other family members were still shocked over the news,no one was expecting this,including her.
"Mother!"Hazel freaked out when she heard the angry voice of Zaiden,his voice sent chills down her spine,turning to find his dark gaze fixed on her.
She tried talking to assure the angry man that this was a mistake,that she too was unaware of this whole arrangement,but her voice failed her,she was unable to find the right words to say.
"Avery,what do you think you are doing?"Ezekiel demanded from his wife,he knew she had always been touchy whenever the topic of Zaiden getting married was brought up,but to do this she went too far,too far!
"How dare you interrupt our dinner with this thing?,clearly she's just a gold digger who's trying to act cool in front …"Sophia added making Hazel's eyes light up in surprise but she's not one who can be bullied easily,so she chipped in.
"Sophia…"Avery butted in to try to save the young lady's reputation but was stunned by what she heard.
"Your words are harsh madam,this is just your first time of seeing me and you are claiming that I'm a thief"
"You insolent!.."Elijah flared up at the guts she had to speak up to his wife,where did Avery find such a girl?
"I like her"Grandpa dropped the bomb surprising them,they were quite stunned at what he just blurted out.
He was not someone who can just accept anyone without thorough investigation and proof that they are not a harm to the family and he just declared openly on her first appearance that he liked her.
Hazel was speechless,she tried controlling herself at the outburst of the old man,he was the only one who defended her when everyone was trying to get rid of her.
She observed that the family was not in unison,observing the look on the lady who called her a gold digger,she knew that she's not going to take it easy on her the next time they meet,but what baffled her the most was that amidst what was happening,a guy was calm not talking at all.
She was amazed that he didn't talk over the issue,choosing to remain silent throughout the whole drama,rather he was busy with his phone.
"But father?"Ezekiel tried talking to his father,because Zaiden was not going to take it lightly with his mom when this was going to be over.
"Let the dinner continue,come sit next to me Hazel, ''The old man said offering his hand to her.Hazel hesitated at first but initially chose to sit with him at the moment,she can clear this up when she talks to Mrs.Knights.
Hazel noticed the look on Sophia's face as called by Avery when she sat next to grandpa,her fiance choosing to leave the arena that moment,wait a minute?
Did I just say fiancee?
"Eat up,"grandpa added, smiling broadly at the girl. He noticed her nervousness and figured out that she too was unaware that Avery was planning on doing this to her.
Grandpa could not utter the main reason for acting that way he did,declaring that he liked her to the detriment of his favourite grandson but the way she cautioned Sophia boldly about her attitude towards her,he liked no,loved her bold spirit,she reminded him of his late wife,Clara.
"Thanks grandpa"Hazel told the old man trying not to choke on her food as everyone sat down concentrating on their food ,but not Sophia and her husband Elijah.
"So who are your parents and where are from?''Sophia suddenly asked, earning a dangerous look from Avery which she ignored,since Avery chooses to find a bride,well isn't it right she asked such an important question.
"I'm an orphan,and I was born in Nestar city in the southern part of the country,"Hazel replied bitterly. What's the use of trying to act like a socialite when she can't hide her background? She knew lieing could cause consequences but she decided to tell the truth.
"Seriously Avery,an orphan ?''Sophia mocked but grandpa knocked his palm on the table in anger he was fed up with her.
"You are banned from dining with me for a month,get out!"He shouted and that was when Hazel heard the voice of the handsome young man with the green eyes who has been silent since,making her think that he was mute.
"Father"He called,he did not like the way he reprimanded his mother because of their guest,he chose to remain silent over the whole issue,but deeply he was angry that his aunt did this to his brother.
"I said get out"Grandpa flared up again but this time he coughed but a cup of water was brought up to his lips by Hazel.
"This is unfair father "Sophia said with a bitter tone,the way grandpa has been treating her in this household is unfair,not excluding the fact that he allowed a girl from a petty family to insult her,she left the gathering with her son,who sent a dangerous smirk while looking at Hazel who noticed it.
"Well done father"Elijah commended,not forgetting to give his father a thump up about his behavior today leaving the table too.
Hazel scoffed at the guys of this family,for the first time she chose to believe that money was surely not everything,the family had money but they lacked love and unity among them.
"I think I need to rest,I will see you tomorrow"Grandpa said standing up as Hazel stood up in respect.
"Grandpa you don't need .."
"I insist,I like you Hazel,have a safe trip going back home"he said touching her left cheek earning a little smile from the girl,looking to his left,his eldest son took his hand helping him on the stairs,leaving only Hazel and Mrs.Knights alone.
"Hazel"Mrs.Kniggts called her she was impressed with her attitude towards Sophia tonight,she did not actually know that her shy and conserved nature had some fighting spirit in her,she was just the perfect bride for her son.
"I think I need to leave now"Hazel told her standing up,tonight has being a stressful and complicated night for her,she did not have any strength left in her anymore to hear what she had to say, unfailingly she was going to explain everything to grandpa tomorrow,that she's not interested.
"Well..okay,let me call my assistant. ''Avery tried objecting but decided to let it go for tonight, tomorrow was still another day to meet up with her.
"Thanks"Hazel told her as she escorted her out of the house,she waited for some minutes in silence, the two of them not knowing what to say before her drive came.
"Goodnight Hazel"Avery told her with a grateful smile plastered on her face,she touched her head patting her future daughter in-law,she loved the way it sounded .

"Goodnight Mrs.Knight"Hazel told her, forcing a smile to the lady who waved at her and entered her house.
Hazel sighed,tiredness written all over her as she went for the car,but she stopped looking up to find her supposed fiance,he was looking directly at her with a burning gaze,she felt cold instantly not liking the cold aura he had around him.
She noticed the burning cigarette on his hand,finding his habit of smoking not likable to her,for some reason she could still remember the way his blue looked at her at the dinner,making her feel vulnerable as if she had met him somewhere,but she ignored the feeling knowing for sure he was not a simple personnel you could run into anyhow .
Hazel entered the car with a heavy heart,knowing that tomorrow was not going to be comfortable for her,she was meeting up with grandpa who told her directly in front of his rude family members that he liked her,how was she going to explain to him that she doesn't like her son,that she was not aware of Mrs.Knight's intentions towards her.
