Chapter 2: The Goodbye

Layn is laying on his bed, it is not the ideal bed, but does the work. Moon light is laying upon his face, his beautiful red hair sparkles within the moonlight entering through the wooden window, half open. He is wide awake, looking at his right palm. A red symbol on his palm since birth, that is what he was looking at. It was not any common symbol, in fact, Layn was the only demon that had this, according to his mother. The symbol is very strange, as if that of an evocation symbol. It had unknown letters, demons nor humans knew of it, with 6 circles around the symbol making a hexagon if lined up.

The door of his room slightly opened, revealing a lady in maid's uniform entering. She took a stool, and sat besides Layn, who was laying on the bed. The room was dark, but the faces were visible thanks to the moon. His mother, had both of her hands-on top of her. Layn did not look at her, but was ready to listen what she was going to say..

"Layn my son, your father, he had no intentions of hurting you... It's just that-"

"What is it ma? Why would you always protect him? It is clear he doesn't love me so be it, I don't care now, as if I love him."

Layn interrupts his mother with an angry tone.

"hold your tongue Layn! You should not say such words to your father, what if he hears you one day!"

"He despises me, Ma, I love you, but my father... if he really doesn't hate me, why wouldn't he show me that?"

"one day son, you will understand. Good night, you have to wake up early in the morning tomorrow don't forget that... get some good sleep."

Layn doesn't reply back to his mother, but he does go to sleep. Tomorrow was a big day, The Thieven Sins Highschool, was the biggest high school in kingdom Thievens. Though it is a high school, it should not be mistaken for any ordinary one. This school opens around every 49 years, for a short duration of 44 months. The studies are not normal, and it just doesn't enroll any student. Only the most intelligent and highest scoring students, both in magical power and physical power are allowed to witness inside this building.

But that's not all of it...

The next morning

"Wake up! Wake up you lazy twig!"

"what... what time is it?"

"Its past 8 Am! are you trying to miss your chance at enrolling!?"

"WHAT!"

Layn was woken up by his younger sister Lily who had a concerned look on her face. After knowing the time, he hurriedly jumped off the bed, rushed to the bathroom and picked up a toothbrush. He then rushed downstairs to the dining table where everyone eats breakfast, lunch and dinner together. The meal was already on the table, with everyone already sat down. Layn sat on his chair, and looked at everyone before eating.

"Good morning everyone! Don't worry about me, I'll finish this meal up in no time and get ready to go!"

Layn picks up the fork with ambition.

"Layn my son, don't tell me you going to eat with the toothbrush in your mouth?"

Layn stopped and thought for a second, and realized he didn't remove the toothbrush from his mouth. Everyone in the table laughed, even Layn was laughing at himself. It was a typical morning for Layn, every day was this lively and happy.

"mommy where is father?" Lily asked

"father is, uh, out to get woods you see."

Layn clinched his fist while holding the fork. His anger was obviously seen. For a father to not be there during his son's farewell, is horrific according to Layn. He did not say anything, but it was visible by looking at him that he was unhappy.

Layn quickly munched down the food and stood up.

"Ma, Sister Lily, I am going to get ready to leave."

"wait Layn son there is no need to hurry, there is still some time-"

Layn ignores his mother's request and continues to his room to get his belongings I.e. suitcase, and a coat. It didn't take him 5 minutes to get back down and outside the exit of the house.

"Layn wait!"

Mother came rushing out the door with Lily right behind her. Both were visibly worried, while Lily was holding her hands together in front of her, as if praying.

Layn stopped.

"Layn my dear son, take care of yourself, and please, for me, forgive your father-"

Just as mother was going to give her farewell, Layn interrupted. He was in anguish; his back was towards them while he depicted a strange aura. An aura of hatred, anger...

"forgive him you say? Are you serious?"

Layn said those words while laughing. It was not a straight forward laughter; it was a strange one... even with his angry tone he chuckled.

"Ma how much are you going to defend him? He can't love me, he can't take care of me, he can't talk to me, he can't bid me goodbye, and he can't even defend himself from all those accusations. You are asking me to forgive him? Where is he right now? If he can't come out right now from the house and tell me how he feels, I will never forgive him."

"But father was out to get woods-"

Lily was interrupted by her mother

"Mind your words Layn! He is still your father no matter what. You can't talk like that to him, he has his own reasons can't you get it? Why do you need to hurt me and him like this before going? Why Layn?"

Just when Layn was going to reply his mother back, probably a cold one, someone from the door behind mother and Lily came out. He had his hands behind his back while he was slowly walks towards Layn. Even though he was just walking, you could sense the strong aura emerging from his big masculine body. He felt like a strong warrior getting into the battle field, ready to slay a hundred. Just by looking at him some would tremble on their knees and fall down. There was no question about it, he was Layn's father.

"fa-father? So, you are actually back-"

"what is taking you so much time?"

Layn and everyone was in shock. Father replied Layn with such an aggressive manner, no one could understand the meaning behind it. Layn was so shocked, he couldn't move or do any action, just dumbly staring at his father's red cold eyes.

"what? Father-"

"get going right now, and don't come back, ever."

Silence upheld the surroundings, the birds that used to chirp every morning were nowhere to be seen. The flowers were not as beautiful as they were yesterday, and the trees were silent.

"Honey! Why would you-"

"understood father, I'll be on my way"

Layn did not say anything else. He did not have an angry tone to his reply, nor was it sad. It was a straightforward answer, as if a reply from a soldier to his commander. Layn's face was down, his hair covered his eyes. There were no tears running down this time, there was no frown or smile. His fists were not clinching, his body was not shivering.

Mother and Lily were both shocked, not knowing how to react to this, all they could do was dumbly watch the two of them.

Layn picked up his suitcase, his coat was on his shoulders, and he turned around, and set on to go. He did not look back; his head was still down. Layn's father was staring at him from behind, while his hands were on his back. Layn could feel the chills from behind his father was giving, while Lily was hugging Mother...

This, was the goodbye given to Layn.
