Chapter 31: Chapter 29
It had already been 5 hours since the start of the mass gate clearing. Every guild, or to be precise, 'divisions' have already scattered in and out of Tokyo to their assigned Gates. And at Toyko, where the massive S-Rank Gate is situated, trucks containing mana crystals are arriving from time to time to dump and surround the Gate.
As for the person who is hired to put up a barrier around the S-Rank Gate, Yuri Orlov, is currently surveying the gate. He may be arrogant at times but that is because he has something to back this arrogance of his, and if he is in the line of work, he will always make sure to complete the said task. Especially if the objective is to put up a barrier around an S-Rank Gate.
Around Yuri were people from the Jap Hunters Association that were also checking if there are any abnormalities of the gate as it was speculated that the gate will break and open either today or tomorrow. That is why they are on constant guard.
And, about 2 kilometers away from all of this, on top of a high-rise building, a figure is seen sitting on the edge of the railings. His left leg was raised to support his left arm.
The person wore a cloak that hid their overall body and face. The only exposed part of the person's body is their arms and legs. For the person's face, well, they are well hidden because of the shadow being made by the figure's cloak.
On the person's hands were two black and red daggers that looked exceptionally sharp. Just by looking at it, one can know how good this weapon is.
The person was currently looking at the massive gate with complications in his eyes. A mix of worry, confusion, and most especially, twistedness.
*Huff...*
He let out a small sigh as he gazed at the sky.
'Too many variables and complications are appearing...' He thought.
'My only mission was to kill the shadow monarch's vessel... But why did it have to be him...?' The person thought as a bit of complex emotions overwhelmed him.
'Then, that white-haired boy appeared out of nowhere and things got more complicated...' He sighed in annoyance.
'Ever since he appeared, more and more unknown variables appeared.' He stopped gazing at the sky and raised his arm and started raising his fingers as if to count something.
'First, 'The upgrader' Selner is doing suspicious activities... This happened shortly after interacting with the white-haired one...'
'Second, A new type of energy besides mana surfaced but not too many people know of it... Well, except the monarchs, I bet.'
'And that white-haired boy comes in and starts absorbing it... A little too well, as if it was natural.'
'Third, Christopher Reed's brother is suspected to be connected to a higher being... Though, whether it is a ruler or a monarch is unknown... Which makes him as dangerous as that white-haired fellow.'
'As for the leader of the Ryūchi Guild... He already sensed me. He had been aware of my presence since a month ago. Yet he does nothing...' The person's eyes gleamed with killing intent. 'Should I take him out?'
'And lastly, that accident that happened in California. A huge mana surge happened and no one knows the cause. There were no gate breakouts in the area.'
He then gazed at the sky again and continued thinking about his problems. 'But, I know for sure that this event is not something that happened out of nowhere. I inspected the area and found some traces of a ruler's mana and aura around the area.'
'Which only means one thing: another ruler's vessel has been picked.'
He then looked behind him and looked at the distance as if looking at something really close. 'That person that has been picked as a vessel ran away... And is currently not showing any traces. Since it's a ruler's vessel, I will pay no heed to him/she, as the ruler that picked a vessel must have reasons.'
From this thought alone, one can know how much trust he has in the beings that call themselves rulers.
The person then stood up as the wind brushed off his face as he looked at the giant S-Rank Gate once more.
'Too many things have been coincidentally happening... Even the world's mana is rising. Just what are those damn monarchs and rulers about to do...?' The person thought in annoyance and worry
'Well, no matter what it is, I only have one mission. If the shadow monarch's vessel is malevolent, I'll kill him immediately...' The person thought before pausing. He then continued. 'Even if he's my own son...'
He then looked at the S-Rank Gate that was swirling in the distance and spoke his thought: "Regardless of the unexpected variables appearing, everything is still going as prophesied."
"... The Prophesied tragedy, that is."
After that last thought, the person jumped down the building. And instead of falling down the ground and splattering all over, his body disappeared out of sight and already went somewhere else.
Yuri Orlov, who has been sensing the person's presence for a while now noticed his disappearance and thought to himself 'That person nearby... No, I'm sure it was a monster... Disappeared... Where'd it go off to?'
But Yuri didn't pursue this matter further as he only made one mental note that he'll take care of that monster once he was finished with the gate barrier.
After about 2 more hours, the place around the Gate has been filled up with tens of thousands of mana crystals just laying on the ground.
And a bit further at the back, military personnel and some hunters were on stand-by as tanks and other military vehicles approach their vicinity.
But everyone present there knows that modern weapons don't have that much effects on monsters. But still, in the case of Yuri Orlov failing, they still need to put up a bit of a defense.
Despite knowing that they will just be cannon fodders until reinforcements arrive.
It just simply confirms how helpless humans can be in the face of disasters they can't stand against.

Meanwhile, back to the white-haired person in the mountains.
He has long stopped recreating some techniques and instead is sitting cross legs on the ground, seemingly trapped in deep thought.
No one knows what is currently running through his head. Not even his clones that currently have spinning air vortexes mixed with fire in their hands know what the main body is thinking.
No one disturbed the main body for a while. And that lasted for about 2 to 3 and a half hours until one of the clones tried to move the main body.
"... Huh?" Muttered Toneri as he lethargically opened his eyes before yawning.
Turns out, he was just taking a small nap.
"..."
Toneri looked at his clones who were starting at him weirdly and asked "What?"
But instead of anyone replying to him, the clone that woke him up 'poofed' as white smokes replaced its place.
It was only at that moment that Toneri realized what was happening. 'The mass gate clearing... Shit!'
He immediately stood up and looked at his clones. 'Now that I've thought about it, how long have I been here? One? Two? Or three days? Gah, I don't even know anymore!'
'Wait wait wait...! The giant gate at Tokyo! Crap, I need to return now! There is Something or someone in that gate that I need to speak with...!'
After that thought, Toneri activated the Tenseigan Chakra Mode. Cyan-green flames enveloped him as a significant portion of his chakra was instantly used every time he uses this mode. But he did not care in the slightest and flew towards Tokyo. 'I hope I'm not late...!'

A/N: Keep an eye out for that person that got picked as a ruler's vessel. They will be an important factor in the near future.
