Chapter 2: Desperation

Leaping to the top of the rubble that used to be his home, Kai stared at the wrecked ship. The metal behemoth lay in utter disrepair, helpless an marooned. It was bright now, the storm having past and the worst of the seasons weather done for now. Kai noticed tents constructed around the ship, temporary shelter for the crew he assumed.

Subtly, he cloaked himself in the force and moved forward. Kai uses rocks and temple stone as cover as he descended towards the crash site, like 200 meters out from his current position. The closer he got the slower he moved and the more he sunk into his veil.

When he made it to around 150 meters, something brushed over him, a light touch. If Kai hadn't spent 20 years constantly defending against a long dead man's will, he wouldn't have even noticed it.

'Jedi'

No one else could do such a well made scan, one so surgically precise. Even he had trouble with the art, preferring detecting life rather than the sonar like pulse the Jedi was using. The force was easier to bend around living things in general, the force was made from life and things without life didn't come naturally to it. To make such a fine comb, the Jedi must have had amazing control as well, better than anything he could put up after so long without needing to detect another force user.

Falling as deep into his veil as he could, he snaked forward. Pulling upon the fabric of the force around him he hid himself in a camouflage rivaling that of the best predators in the galaxy. With every step, he became only shadow.

Adrenaline coursed through him, the knowledge that premature discovery would mean losing the element of surprise.

At 50 meters, he saw the Jedi. A human male, meditating. He was clearly on edge…."Fuck"

Exar Kun was likely pushing against the man right now, the light side working as a perfect beacon.

Kai knew what he had to do, choosing the lesser of two evils.

:Jedi:

:Stay back, Sith, I won't let you in:

:Not him, I'm coming towards you. You need to leave this place now:

:You won't trick me, nothing could live in this wretched place:

Sighing, Kai prepared to make a decision he really would rather not.

"Jedi"

He was still 50 meters out but he broke his camouflage, which was enough for the Jedi to act. To the man's credit, he acted instantly, igniting his…red blade.

The Jedi made a massive leap, landing just in front of Kai and swinging his blade down towards Kai's skull with all the speed he could muster.

The blade never made it to its intended target though, stopping in the air. Kai wasn't a Jedi peacekeeper who hadn't seen combat in generations, he was a Massassi warrior, trained since his birth for combat against Jedi. Kai gripped the Jedi's saber with the force, halting it mid swing.

"Listen to me."

"Who are you?"

"Kaitosh of the Massassi. You need to leave. I'm not shielding my mind, search for the truth like your kind so loves to do."

"The Sith were masters of deception. Even a pretender would know that."

Kai stared at him blankly.

"I'm…I can't really pretend to be a species, now can I?"

"Wha..what? Who are you."

"Kai. There's an old kith damned Sith sorcerer entombed under that temple you just crushed that desperately wants inside your mind. He will win the fight if you stay."

The Jedi was young and Kai could feel his fear.

"Where did you get this blade?"

"What? It's…no, why am I talking, cease this action right now or I'll-"

"What? Arrest me? I have you frozen in the air with the force, you're on a planet you dont know, there's an ancient Sith Lord trying to enter your mind, and you're clearly not a long time Jedi."

"…my men will-"

"I could rip through those security personnel before they even knew I was there. Do you have a beacon up?"

"Y-yes."

"Comms?"

"No"

"Damn!"

Kai knew about starship technology purely in theory, never actually having been on or near a starship. He knew enough to know that comms weren't going to go back up if the ship was damaged enough for them to ever be down.

Kai dropped the Jedi and the young man held his blade at rest, though he kept it ignited.

"Give me one reason why I shouldn't do my best to cut you down where you stand…"

It wasn't a threat, it was honestly a question, Kai couldn't fault the kid for that.

"Because as of now, I am not your enemy. I can get into a philosophical argument with you later, now we need to fortify the minds of your men before Kun decides to stop being picky."

"One wrong move and I will stop at nothing to see you dead. Kun? This is the name of the sorcerer? I can feel his presence…it's awful."

"Exar Kun."

"The dark Jedi? He's been dead for 3500 years."

Kai was caught off guard by that comment.

"What? Maybe 1000 years, if we're being generous."

"Exar Kun was killed in 343 btc."

"Yeah…about a 1000 years ago."

The Jedi froze.

"…No…no it wasn't…we will figure this out later. If you want us to leave…we would need somewhere safe to camp, if you take us to a safer temple…I would see it as an act of good faith. You do not act like a Sith told to us in story."

"I'm the last pureblood Sith, as far as I am aware. The last communication my ancestors ever received was a transmission stating that the Jedi had captured Korriban and Ziost."

"Korriban…I am unfamiliar with this name. Though the Sith have been gone for 500 years at this point. Pureblood?"

"Then they survived longer than I had thought they would. There is a temple 12 kilometers east of our position. Prepare your men. A pureblood Sith is the species that gave the order their name…it seems we've faded into obscurity.

"…huh…you stay by me."

"Acceptable."

God this chapter was a bitch to write. It will be easier to develop the two now that they've 'met'
