Chapter 5: Chapter 4: Reckon I’ll

"Reckon I'll start with the basics…" Amitha's voice trailed off as she stood up and made her way into the hut. The accommodation appeared to be gargantuan to Bie, as the woman was easily two and a half meters tall. Although he did note the simplicity of the building, with its dull muted colors and shabby straw roof.

It took a minute for Amitha to emerge from the entryway that lacked a door to accompany it. Within her arms were a multitude of sharp blades, hilts, and poles…she was carrying numerous weapons too small for her frame.

The cerulean woman stood a bit away from Bie before simply dropping the weapons on the ground coarsely. Picking up a sword that looked more like a dagger in her hands, she threw it.

The blade embedded itself into the ground right before Bie, hilt facing upwards towards him. With a tingling in his fingers, the boy felt the urge to reach towards it. Instead, he trained his gaze over to Amitha, eyeing her warily as he inched forward.

"Don't be a wimp, newborn. You're just a wee Childe, ye shouldn't learn such bad habits. Pick up the sword over there, and let's get goin."

Bie struggled a bit internally, but decided to go along with what she said. He knew nothing after all, so what else was he supposed to do? Besides…he wanted to learn how to fight when it came down to it. Something about the idea of picking up the weapon made his heart pulse almost similarly to how it had when he entered the black door.

He reached for the hilt and pulled, feeling a slight give to the tug of resistance the blade offered. Putting more strength into it, he hefted up the weapon, noticing it feeling a bit lighter than he expected it to be.

"Oh. Ye can't even remove a blade right, ey? Look to yer sword."

Bie looked at the blade he held in hand, before his eyes widened in shock. The blade was half broken, the other half still remaining in the ground. That…wasn't what he intended to do at all!

"Gahahaha! It's a bit of a surprise for a wee lad like you to already break something upon entering my little home. It's not completely ruined, so I guess it'll do!"

She held her hand outwards, and a great sword materialized in the once empty space atop it. She grasped the great sword, which was more like a sword with her size, and grasped the handle tightly with one hand before leaning forward, her weight centralized on her leftmost knee, sword hand opposite.

"Copy, kay? And keep yer eyes open!"

Bie attempted to mimic her stance, and replicated it rather clumsily. With the characteristic smile Amitha donned dimming, he shrugged and simply did the best that he could. Amitha nodded before making a set of movements.

A hurried dance similar to a landslide soon commenced, as she swung the hefty blade deftly and fiercely. With succinct chops and quick slashes, she advanced every forwards while keeping her feet close to the ground. She finished off the set of movements with a large stomp, before she threw her burly frame with her sword and smashed into the clearing viciously.

BAM!

"Did ya see? Copy until ya get it right, newborn."

And with that, she promptly entered the hut a bit away from the clearing, leaving Bie alone. The child did not think to complain, as he was drawn in by the rough movements Amitha had made. The coordination she had was something that had drew his attention, alright.

He stood there with his eyes closed for a moment, going over the movements he saw in his mind. His lungs had started breathing as it were, while his lips parted slightly as he began to concentrate. With a step forward, he raised the blade to try her last move once as it held the most impression on him.

And as his blade smacked the ground, it had broken a bit more. The shards gleamed on the ground like caltrops. Bie formed a sheepish smile before stepping away from the shards he had just caused and made a mental note not to try that move again. For a while, anyways.

And a while did pass. Bie swung his arms again and again in the way that he saw, or at least he thought he did. The truth was, Amitha was watching him from within the clouded window that was on the hut. And she did not see what she did at all, what she was…

'It's a travesty.'

Bie had strength, Amitha could see that. But his movements…they were clumsy and uncoordinated. The only noticeable improvement was his footing, but it seemed somehow like his swordsmanship was getting…worse?

Crash.

The blade has broken so much that it was barely above the hilt. The handle had viable cracks all over it, and the sword creaked with a swan song amidst its strain. Amitha was only having him do this as a means to gauge his talent, so she would know how to teach him even further but…

'The lad has no talent with a sword.'

That she had to accept. And so she did, moving out of the hut and thusly moving on. As she stepped up to Bie, who was only holding the handle by now, she grabbed a spear and similarly threw it in front of him. The blade knocked out the shard of the other blade, and she grabbed a spear fit for her visage as well.

"Enough. Copy this instead."

Bie excitedly grabbed the spear and looked intently at Amitha, seeing just how exactly he should hold it. His eyes were starting to resemble crescent moons as he beamed with happiness. The sword swinging was quite fun, and he felt the same sensation he had felt before holding this spear.

Amitha leaned backwards before she tightened her grip on the spear, twirling it with her hands and beginning another dance. She glided around the same spot, with her feet kissing the ground as she agilely swung the pole and pierced with the blade. Like a growing stalagmite, she thrusted the gleaming blade towards the ceiling and pushed down with great force like a falling stalagmite.

She dropped the spear and went back into the hut, watching Bie's progress.

And hours passed, before Bie had completely broken the spear he held. Next, she brought a dagger.

It was broken.

Next, she brought an axe and all manner of hammers.

Surprisingly, those broke too.

Weapon after weapon, instrument after instrument, destruction befell each and every one she bestowed. An exhilarated Bie stood above the scrap heap, triumphant and waiting for the next order she would give.

'The kid is a scourge…'

She thought it but didn't say it. Her lips were twitching while her antennae were moving quite vigorously as she gulped down the dryness in her throat.

"Come inside, we'll start again after a rest. We Gem of the Dead don't hafts sleep, but inaction is good on the body. And I have to clean up this…success. Eheh."

Bie jauntily strolled inside of the hut, his hair bouncing up and down as he confidently strode. Watching the bob of hair disappear, Amitha shook her head before her hands started glowing.

"Rock Reset."

The pockmarked terrain beneath her was smooth once more.
