Chapter 8: Chapter 8

UNEDITED-

Marisol POV-

I went downstairs a minute after Alex with my black backpack.. I looked in the living room to see Betty and Samantha sitting on the sofa while Alex was in the arm chair. They all looked up and smiled to me, I smiled back and left for the kitchen.

Bella was standing by the counter with her back to me.. "Hey.." I may as well start a conversation. She looked over at me and back down to the counter.. "What's going on with you?" I asked.. "Why don't you want to find Nick?"...

"I don't even know where he would be.. we split months ago.." She sighed.

"Oh I'm sorry.. I didn't know" I walked over to the counter to pick up my katanas but stayed on the other side of it infront of her. "And there is no one else?" I asked.

"I have a brother but we haven't talked since our parents died.. I wouldn't know how to find him now" Bella put her head in her hands, probably full of regret.

"You should focus on the things that you can control.. you're still here" I reached across the counter placing my hand over hers, in an attempt to console her.

Slowly she looked up at me.. "Thank you Sol" She smiled solemnly, elegantly wiping a tear from her rosey cheek.

I smiled, taking my hand back and picking the larger of the katanas up, leaving one here for Sam.. "You're lucky you landed with us really aren't you?" I laughed.. "Well I'm lucky you pushed me out the window" I corrected.

"Don't thank me.. that was all Alexa, I was a wreck" And she's not anymore?.

"Well then I'm greatful to both of you. Just please remember that you're not alone here.. okay?.. they will look after you"..she nodded back with a smile.

I packed my bag of some snacks for my drive and extra for the boys, along with a first aid kit.. I went back upstairs to my dads safe in his bedroom to get his pistol.. It took a few attempts for me to get the combination right. First I tried my mothers birthday, then his birthday, my birthday, both my brothers.. until I finally put in the date he married my mother.. bingo. I'm so greatful that he never thought to sell this.

I pulled out the glock that was already in it's holster along with a full ammo clip.. They had been sitting on a bunch of old pornos.. that's gross. I ejected the clip from the gun to find it full before clicking it back into place and pulling back the slide, put it back in the holster and laid it on top of the safe. I pulled all the pornos out into a pile on the floor and found an extra ammo clip in the back of the safe.. along with something I never thought I'd see.. my mothers favourite cd. I know what I'm going to be listening to on the drive.

After holstering the gun to my hip I slid the ammo clips into my backpack. You never know how heavy a gun is until you hold it in your hand.. perhaps it's the realisation that you could end someone's life with the squeeze of a trigger. Let's just hope I have good aim.

I went back to the living room to find everyone there this time.. they all still looked justifiably lost.. "Sam have you got the keys?" I asked.. She nodded and chucked them over to me from her pocket. "Use whatever you can to barricade the doors and windows.. just don't go into my brother's room.." I stated simply "And take care of eachother.." I spoke like I might never come back an then I turned to leave.

"Remember Sol it's just how I taught you.. be swift, don't be rough.." She's referring to gear change. Sam has been trying to teach me in the car park at work.. but I struggle.

I looked back and smiled.. "Thank you Sam.. I've got it" I laughed as I continued walking away.

"Wait you can't even drive?" I heard Alex sounding flustered.

"She'll be fine.. I trust her" Samantha sticking up for me as always.

I looked out of the curtain in the kitchen before making any attempt for the car. I watched as a dead lady with half a face walked aimlessly past my house. I almost jumped out of my skin and screamed when a pale man's face appeared inches from where I was peaking through the blinds.. the only thing that stopped me was a hand over my mouth. An arm around my waist pulled me back silently from the window. I breathed out slowly as the person took their hand away to hold one of my arms instead.. My heartbeat was pounding in my ears, my hands were still wrapped around this person's arm across my stomach and chest. At this point I didn't care who was holding onto me, I could feel by their breathing they had panicked too. I just relaxed into them slightly as I tried to stop myself from having a panic attack.

"You have a gun?" She whispered still catching her breath. Feeling my blood pressure now returning to normal I turned to Alex letting go of her arm.

"I have a gun.." I affirmed "That's a good thing right?" I asked nervously when she took to long to say anything.

"Have you ever used one before?" Alex asked in a quiet tone.

"No?.. it's for emergencies only.." I stated seriously. "Wouldn't you rather I have it?" I asked confused.

"Yes.. if you knew how to use it. Sol you could kill yourself with that thing.. I should go with you, we'd have a better chance at finding them together, you can't drive and you've never used a gun.."..

"No Alex I won't let anyone risk their life for me.. not them and definitely not you.." I shook my head at the thought. I remember how I felt when Alfie grabbed her arm.. it's like something inside me switched. She looked sad and frustrated, but that's better than being dead. I went back over to the blinds to take another peek. The path looks clear now but I can't see around the corners down the street. This is as good as I'm going to get. "I'll see you in two an a half hours".

I left the kitchen for the front door with everything I thought I might need. Before I stepped out I whispered a small prayer.. "I know we don't talk much Lord.. but if you can hear me.. please keep them all safe.. Amen" ..Can you tell I don't do this often?.. After you pray a million times and nothing changes you tend to not see the point in doing it at all.

-----------

I quickly glanced around as I stepped outside. I could see a few waddling bodies down the street at either end but luckily, they were far enough away that they couldn't see or hear me get into the car. I slid the katana down next to my seat and put my backpack in the seat next to me before turning the key half way.. Mr Fisher even left me more than enough gas for the trip. Maybe second hand sellers aren't so bad after all.. "Thank you" I whispered in a greatful tone up to the heavens, which is probably where he is right now, if there is such a place. I ejected a disk from the cd player without looking at it and shoved my mother's one in..Then I fully turned the key in the egnition and pressed play as I set off.

At the start I was a little rocky, I pulled away too hard and nearly stalled but I managed to keep it going. There were some barricades set up, and cars set on fire along the way which slowed me down as I had to find a different route or skillfully manoeuvre through them.. or rather unskillfully, my car looks like I've been in a rally race and I'm not even half way there. Almost no traffic on the road was taking some time off the journey. You can tell things are only getting worse out here.

As I drove past Kingsley I couldn't believe my eyes.. There was a police van and two police cars in the car park.. surrounded by the dead, the police siren of one of the cars is still going off, that's probably why they are gathering. Teachers and students shambling around together.. I pressed pause on the song to hear the groaning and moaning coming from the pale bodies.

I was deep in my thoughts as I recalled some of their faces, from when they were alive I mean.. I was so distracted almost drove straight over the blur of a person that appeared infront of my car. I swerved narrowly missing them and drove past.. only when I looked in the rear view mirror did I see that it was someone who is also not dead.. "Wait!" Willow shouted attracting the attention of the mass of waddling bodies. I slowed down and let the flailing hesterical girl catch up. I unlocked the doors and waited for her to get in.. then the back door went and two more people got into the car.. My worst nightmare. Willow, Natasha and Storm.. as the passenger doors closed I pulled away hard, I braced for it but even my head hit hard against the headrest.

"Can you even drive?!" Natasha hissed..

"If you don't like my driving I'd be more than happy to let you out.." I finished my sentence and stopped the car, calmly turning in my seat to look at her opposite me in the back. Her face dropped and she froze.

"Marisol, please just ignore her.." Storm pleaded as she looked out the back window to see the dead slowly catching up 20ft away.

"Nope.. not this time. What's that phrase?.." I racked my mind for a second "Oh right. My way or the highway?.." I smirked waiting for Natasha to respond.

Natasha only hesitated for a few seconds, probably just trying to process the day like the rest of us. "Your way! your way please drive.." She looks like a hot mess. I can't imagine what hell they went through to get out of the school.

"I'm so glad" I rolled my eyes with a smirk as I turned to Willow then the road ahead. The first of the dead was just about to touch the back of my car as I drove away.

"Should I put this in the back?" Willow asked nervously as she sat with my backpack on her lap.

"No just leave it" I spoke plainly, taking the bag and shoving it by her feet in the foot well. "Anyway I was in the middle of something. All I can do is drop you at Willows house.. unless there is somewhere else in that direction you want to go?" I asked glancing in the rearview mirror and back to the road. It's a rare sight to see these bitches looking so weak and vulnerable, I probably shouldn't be getting this much of a kick out of it.. I couldn't help but smirk to myself before actually trying to give them some advice. "Girls I know that things are pretty fucked up right now.. but if you have any hope of surviving you need to at least try to accept it.." I saw Willow out of the corner of my eye as she just curled over, head in her hands rested on her legs.

"Thank you.." Storm uttered quietly, I looked to her in the mirror and nodded.

A few minutes later Willow lifted her head to look at me.. "How do you know where I live?" She asked with a puzzled expression.

"What?" I laughed.. "We are in the middle of the end of everything.. and you want to know how I know where you live?" I asked looking to her and back to the road. I really only acted like this because I don't want to tell her the truth.

"What should we do?" Storm asked Willow.. refering to herself and Natasha.

"Our parents are probably together somewhere looking for us.." Natasha chimed in..

"I hope so.." Storm sighed.

"Why didn't you take your car Storm?" I asked..

"Did you see the car park?" She replied as if it was obvious, this sudden side mission had thrown off my concentration I wasn't even thinking when I had asked.

"Right.." I affirmed.. "Where is Rain?" I asked, somewhat cautiously.

"She was sick earlier she went home right before lunch.. I hope she's at home" Storm sighed. They don't really get along but you still love your family even if you don't always like them.

"So do I.." I sighed nodding. I'm genuinely hoping she is alright.

"And Sky?" I asked as I glanced in the rearview mirror.

It took awhile for anyone to respond until Natasha spoke up.. "She's back there" I could tell they didn't want to talk about it. I get the gist.

Another ten minutes went by of me explaining the news.. and the crazy looking scientist guy, before we were finally pulling up to Willows driveway.. I turned off the ignition when I saw no one around, alive or dead. Another minute went by and I was growing aggravated.. If my family was in that house nothing could get in my way. "What are you all doing?" I asked frustratedly not bothering to look around.

"Uh.." Willow started trying to come up with something.

"What if they aren't in?" Natasha asked.

"What if they're dead?" Storm began sobbing quietly.. likely not even talking about Willows family.

"Oh for fuck sake.." I shook my head annoyed as took the key out of the ignition and opened the car door. I grabbed the katana that was hidden down the side of my seat.. "All of you out.." I ordered plainly, like a mother trying to take her reluctant children to school.. Natasha and Storm both stepped out of the car.. Willow however seemed to still be struggling.. her 'friends' did nothing to console her. "You're not going to help her?" I asked Natasha frustratedly.

"What am I supposed to do?" She asked in a weak voice, genuinely not knowing what to do..

"Storm keep an eye out" I span my finger in the air to indicate to everywhere. She nodded, taking up the role of a meerkat glancing around in all directions. I rolled my eyes before going around to Willows door and opening it.. "If you decide not to even try.. then you may aswell have already lost them.." I offered her my hand.. a few seconds past and she actually took it, slowly stepping out of the car and looking up to me.

"What if they 'are' dead?" Her voice cracked.

"Then it's better to know for sure isn't it?"..

"Marisol!" Storm almost shouted..

"Quiet.." I said in a hushed voice as I saw what she wanted my attention for. A greyish elderly woman who was stumbling over to us in her torn mucky nightgown. Eyes almost white but you could still feel them on you.. "Go to the door" I whispered pulling Willow across by her hand that I still had in mine. I let go of her and all three of them did as I said.

While waiting for the dead lady to approach I closed the passenger door, locked the car and put the key into my pocket. I pulled the Katana from it's sheath, finally she was standing right infront of me. Just like with Marv I thrust forward.. this time the blade went straight into her open mouth and out the back of her head.. I felt the metal grind against her skull as I pulled it back. I took a quick glance around before walking up to the mansion.

"How many people should be here?" I asked quietly, peeking through the window of the door. I couldn't see anyone.

"What do you mean?" Willow asked back.

"You live in a mansion.. surely you have workers, maids or something?.. I don't care I just need to know what we are walking into.." ..

"Oh right.. my parents, my sister.. seven maids, three cooks, a gardener.. oh and Boris the barman.." .. can't forget Boris..

"They all live here?" I asked wide eyed, unable to hide my shock. She just nodded her head simply. That might be a challenge if they are all infected. I'm only supposed to be gone two an a half hours. "Right well.. if I were you I'd find something to protect myself with.." I spoke in a serious tone. "Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.." I sighed. They all looked a little stumped.. it took 30 seconds too long but eventually they grabbed gardening equipment from infront if the garage that luckily hadn't been put away. Willow got a shovel, Natasha a pitchfork and Storm.. a rake. "Storm can you take something else please?" I asked slowly loosing my will to live. This is taking stupidly long now. She looked like a deer in headlights before exchanging her rake for a hoe. That's a little better I think. Why do the pretty girls pick the worst weapons?..

I silently tried the handle of the front door.. it's locked. "Key?" I held my hand out rolling my eyes. Willow passed me the key and I entered the house slowly. They all followed behind as we made our way into the main room.. Willow pointed to a door over my shoulder. I nodded and held my hand up, signaling them to wait as I made my way over. Silently I opened the door and just as I did something dark cracked me across my eye.. I dropped to the floor clutching my eye that was now pouring with blood.

"Daddy?" I heard Willow say through exaggerated breaths as she almost broke down on the spot.. He dropped whatever he'd smacked me in the face with, then I heard her footsteps as she went running past me over to him.

"Willow, my God, I can't believe it's you".. How touching.. I made an attempt to sit up, still clutching my left eye with one hand. As I was struggling someone came to help me..

"Oh shit Sol" Luciana winced as she put her hand over my hand and drew it back to see the blood. With the eye I still had I looked over to whatever he'd hit me in the face with..a rifle with a custom butt filed into a sharp edge.. nice.

"I'm alright.." I said even though I clearly wasn't. I was surprised when Natasha of all people came to help Luciana get me up.. They walked me over to a very expensive looking sofa and carefully laid me down. My mother would have killed me if I ruined something like this.

I heard them all speaking together, muffled voices all around me.. the world became fuzzy and I passed out. When I woke up I still couldn't see out of my left eye. I lifted my hand to my wound and found it covered in bandages.. "How are you feeling?" Luciana sat forward in a chair that was infront of me with a worried expression.. I sat up groggily. Now noticing my legs are covered by a soft blanket.

"Can I have this?" I pointed to a half empty bottle of water that was on the table next to me.

"You can have it" She nodded smiling. I opened the bottle and drank a few mouthfuls.

"Thank you.. how long was I unconscious?"..

"About fifteen minutes.." That's not so bad.. "So 'Marisol' huh?" She smirked..

"What?" I asked confused.

"I've heard many stories about you.." Luciana raised her eyebrows..

"How many did you believe?" I asked in intrigue.

"Only the ones I see.. like the bruises on my sister?" She said it like she wanted me to explain rather than her being mad.

"Admittedly I took things too far.. I ignored them for as long as I could, and then I.. I guess I had enough." I answered simply.. "I should have given her a chance to defend herself that's the only part I really feel guilty for.." What's the point of lying, the world is ending.

"Our mum took her phone last month for failing a math test.. when she checked Willows social media she found a group chat dedicated to 'Marisol'.. and she didn't think much of it until 'Marisol' hit willow over the head with a cafeteria tray.." ..Why is she speaking to me like I'm not here.. "-usually in a situation like this she would definitely sue.. but instead she took Willows phone and went through the chat.." Her face dropped a little.

"Okay?" I asked nonchalantly.. is there a point to this?.. They didn't know she was a bitch?.. I think I got it.

"Why didn't you ever tell anyone?. The chat log goes back years". She asked clearly surprised and disgusted in her sister. "Sol?" She asked again reaching out to hold my hand when I didn't reply.. Willow and Natasha walked into the room unannounced.. Luciana quickly retracted her hand before either of them saw.

"You know each other?" Willow asked in a confused tone.. she must have caught the last thing Luciana said. I could say I told her my name was Sol.. really I didn't tell her my name was anything, Sam called my name out at the party.

"Yes Willow we know each other.. what do you want?" Luciana asked, clearly already fed up with her sisters presence. Well I guess that settles that.

"I, I just.." She stuttered at the revelation before continuing "I wanted to say. Marisol, I'm really sorry for everything.. I treated you terribly.. I was terrible. And even after that you still saved our lives.. I owe you everything" She almost broke down again.. seems like an emotional day for everyone. I don't even want to ask where everyone else is.. I haven't seen their mother yet..

"It's okay Willow.." I nodded slowly as my head was throbbing.

"It's not okay.." Natasha spoke with a tear rolling down her cheek..

"Come, sit down for a minute.." They nodded. I ushered Luciana to sit next to me, Willow sat in the chair infront and Natasha the other side of Luciana. "I just wanted to ask why you hate me so much?" This might be my last chance to ever find out. For some reason Luciana felt the need to hold my hand under the cover.. I didn't mean to put her literally in the middle, I just didn't want to sit next to either of them.

The girls both looked uncomfortable before one finally opened her mouth to speak..
