"How is he?" I spoke into the phone, my stomach in knots as I waited for the answer. 

We parked a few blocks from the coffee shop, intent on checking if the woman from the photos was there. 

"Surgery went well, though it took much longer than Trevor and Andy would've liked," Odie sighed, utterly exhausted. "We're keeping him sedated for now, though… it's going to be a while before he recovers."

"Why?" That's not what I wanted to hear, but I wasn't surprised. 

"Bailey found Silver in his blood. Not a little bit. Tons of it. She was shocked he wasn't dead," I could almost hear her pacing, knowing she was still at the hospital. I'd offered her the apartment above my garage, but she hadn't finished moving in. "It's weird, Silver, too. Some magical properties to it don't make any sense. Maybe when you get back, you can have one of the covens take a look. When's Mary leaving?"
