Episode 1

.

A young guy wearing a grey t-shirt, ripped jeans, bandana on his head, white mask, black tinted glasses walked down the airport runway holding a duffel bag as he stared at his phone.

His facial expressions depicted sadness as he watched his phone.

He just happened to be watching a recent scandal of himself.

JaeMin is a rapper, songwriter and a record producer. Managed under a popular entertainment company in his country, he debuted as a solo artist in 2016 with a self titled album after being a trainee for 5 years.

Around 2018, his career peaked and he rose to fame, topping charts and breaking records while having over millions of followers on each of his social media accounts.

JaeMin is a name constantly making headlines, either for a dating rumor, controversy or a feud with another artist.

But who's the real JaeMin?

Kim Jae Minjun who was born in Busan on May 5, 1997.

From a young age, Minjun developed a passion for music. He grew up wanting nothing more than to make music, and at the age of thirteen, he wrote his first song and attempted auditioning at a company.

He got rejected by two companies before getting accepted in another one at age 14.

He trained for five years failing to debut in a boy group but was soon given a chance to debut as a soloist.

At age 19, he debuted.

And at age 21, he became a well known rapper in the korean music industry.

His dreams had finally came through, people were listening to his music, he had fans, he was making money doing the thing he loved the most.

Everything was perfect, right ?

Until everything Minjun did made headlines. He could simply step out to get some fresh air and an article would be written the next day.

People began criticizing every move he made. He could go out for a lunch with a friend and it would suddenly be assumed he was in a relationship. He couldn't have a jewelry similar to another celebrity's because then it would seem like couple jewelry.

He couldn't walk the streets alone because of someone saw him without his bodyguards then there would be chaos.

Paparazzi would crowd him and fans would swarm him. He would feel trapped.

Others fandoms began to attack him if he won an award that their favorite artist was nominated for.

It was just too much.

And slowly, Minjun began to resent his career choice. He didn't want any of it anymore.

He didn't want to have a panic attack every time he stepped off a plane. He didn't want to be in dating scandals any longer, he didn't want the life he was living again.

The recent scandal that just came out about was him happened in Japan which made JaeMin decided to fly back to South Korea.

It had happened while he was out with a friend of his. They were shopping peacefully when cameras began to swarm them, snapping pictures after pictures, asking questions after questions.

The rapper had tried ignoring them even when they stepped way too close for comfort, he simply put his head down and tried to guide his friend out of the mass of people.

His anxiety was high and his breathing had become shallow. That's when he felt a hand grab onto him arm trying to stop him.

And JaeMin snapped.

He quickly snatched his hand away turning to the culprit. "Don't fucking touch me. Who the fuck do you think you are ?".

He could hear the clicking of cameras getting quicker as they captured the scene.

Before he could actually inflict any damage, his friend was quick to hold him back and pull him away from the situation.

Of course the media was able to twist the entire situation and made it seem like his outburst came from nowhere.

The public saw him as a bad guy who yelled at his 'fan'.

Becoming JaeMin was the dream that belonged to Kim Jae Minjun. A dream that got corrupted and became something Minjun never wanted.

Now he only had one thing in mind as he watched the scandal video bitterly.

Fuck it.

~~Park Eunji~~

Stretching my limbs as far and satisfying as I possibly can, i slouch uncomfortably on the chair waiting for my best friend.

Well, other strangers were also sitting in the waiting area too.

I sigh whilst staring at the clock on the far wall desperately wishing the time would move faster.

1:29AM

Shouldn't she be here right now ? Her flight should have landed half an hour ago.

Her name is Ji-a and she's the closest thing to being a sister.

I glance around staring at the strangers waiting.

Seems like they are boarding late flights.

I grab the cup of coffee next to me taking small sips to keep me from falling asleep.

A grumpy voice coming from behind me however cuts me from my relaxation. It sounds like a guy who is not impressed to whoever he's talking with on the phone.

"I'm fine with leaving the airport alone, there hardly seems to be anyone here ".

I hear footsteps from behind me growing louder and I turn around out of curiosity.

The guy comes into view.

He wears a grey t-shirt, ripped jeans, bandana on his head, white mask, black tinted glasses and holding a duffel bag.

He stands not so far from speaking to whosoever on his phone.

"I don't even know why you are worried, I can drive myself".

Silence ensues as I assume he's listening to the person on the phone.

"Fine. You can come pick me up". He groans and walks over to poop down on the chair beside me.

I shoot my face back to the cup of coffee in my hands pretending to read the label.

"I'm waiting, just hurry up wherever you are. If I'm not careful enough, people will start to recognize me if they stare long enough ".

Recognize him ?

Who's this guy, a celebrity or what ?

I stare at him trying to take a closer peek at his face wondering if I would maybe know him.

His words make me believe that he's someone popular.

But his face didn't ring a bell.

"Don't worry, I won't take my mask off. How long will you be ?". He asks and pause before letting out a gasp. "30 minutes? I don't have 30 minutes, what should I do while you are coming to get me ? Play fetch with my shadow ?".

I smile at what he said finding it amusing.

A smile makes its way to my face and with my coffee cup, I cover my face to shield my giggles.

The guy notices this and shoots me a confused look followed by a glare with his eyes and I immediately clear my throat and stop the chuckles. I shoot my eyes back down pretending to be typing something when I'm actually on my home page.

He pinches the bridge of his nose and adjusts his glasses. "Just hurry up wherever you are. I don't have 30 minutes. Oh, there's traffic? Alright, alright, just hang up".

And finally, he hangs up the call letting out a big sigh and leaning back in his chair, still occupied by his phone.

I restrain my laugh glancing sideways to look at him before snorting loudly.

Realizing what I did, I quickly covered my mouth with my hand but my laugh didn't go unnoticed as the boy looks at me, probably shooting me a glare through his tinted glasses.

I try to stop silently laughing and take another sip of my coffee but I remembered his words again, and I end up choking on the drink, coughing loudly.

He tilts his head staring at me. "Am I, by any chance, amusing you ?".

I cleared my throat and glanced at him with tears in my eyes, stopping my cough fit. "Maybe ".

He shakes his head and looks away.

We both go silent for a couple of minutes and I then speak up.

"Why did you say to whoever you were talking to that you'll be recognized if people stare long enough ?".

His eyebrows furrows as he completely stares at me before clearing his throat and looking away. "Oh no reason ".

"I doubt that ". I retort.

"Don't you know who I am ?".

I shake my head negatively. "Am I supposed to know who you are ?".

"Well yes ".

He's getting me more curious.

Who is he ?

If he's that famous, why don't I know him ?

"Who are you then ?". I ask him.

"I'm going to ask you one question which will explain why you don't know me ". He leans towards me. "Well Do you know JaeMin?".

I scoff. "Who ?".

"Ah! That's why ". He holds backwards in his seat. "If you don't know who that is then don't bother".

Well who's JaeMin?

An actor ?

A Kpop Idol ?

A dancer?

A businessman?

"Don't think about searching it up too". He says interrupting my thoughts.

It's not like I want to search what it means anyways.

Silence is filled between us once again.

I take out my phone to check the time.

1:59AM

Sighing, I place it back in my pocket already tired of waiting around.

"What's your name ?".

Hearing his voice, I look sideways at the man.

"Why do you want to know ? ".

He shrugs. "Because I want to know ".

"Well if you tell me yours, I'll tell you mine ".

"Really ?". He chuckles.

"Yes. But first, take off the mask. You might be a serial killer, who knows ?".

He takes one long look around the airport before settling his gaze back on me.

His hands reach up to his glasses and he takes them off setting them to one side as he removes the mask revealing his face.

"Now you know what I look like. Can you tell me who you are ?". He asks with a small smile.

I sigh giving in. "Park Eunji ".

He opens his mouth to speak when another voice cuts in.

"There you are!! Come on, let's go, the car is waiting outside ". A taller man wearing a mask approaches us.

He groans and stands to his feet wearing his glasses and mask again.

"Come on, we have to be quick ". The tall man said turning around to walk away.

He didn't even give me a glance.

Am I that ugly ?

The guy next to me, sighs raking his hands in his hair before giving a nod to me as he walks off.

And then he's gone.

And I'm surrounded by silence, once again.

I drop my face on my clasped hands resting on my lap.

But a tap on my shoulder makes my head shoot up and it's him standing there.

"Minjun ".

I blink staring at him with a blank look on my face. "What ?".

"My name is Minjun ". He gives me a wave before leaving again. "Bye. Eunji-shi".

~~Kim Minjun~~

"What was all that about ?". My manager, Choi Hanuel asked as I jogged back to him.

I shrug. "Nothing much for you to worry about ".

"You were talking in public with your mask out, I remember telling you to always wear it ".

"Hyung, come on, she didn't even know who JaeMin was. That's why I was comfortable with taking off my mask in front of her ".

My manager scoffed. "She didn't know who you were ? That's impossible. You are on every magazines in this city, how much she doesn't know who you are ".

"Maybe she doesn't have money to buy magazines or television, or she doesn't go out of her house so she couldn't have seen those billboards ". I said joking with him.

"Yeah right ". He rolled his eyes in response. "Or maybe she's a fan who pretended not to know who you were so you would notice her even more ".

"No, I don't think that's what it is". I said remembering her facial expression when I took my mask off. "When I revealed who I was, she didn't seem fazed or excited or anything of that sort, even when I asked her if she knew who JaeMin was. She didn't have a single clue so there's no way she could have been faking not to know me ".

"It's just an assumption, Minjun. You know your fans would usually do crazy things to see you nowadays, so that's why I have my doubts about her ".

"She's cool, I guess ". I said concluding the conversation as we finally got to our ride.

Hanuel Hyung unlocked the doors as we stepped in dropping my bags at the back seat.

"You came all the way here alone just to pick me up. How sweet!". I said teasing him as I put on my seatbelt.

He rolled his eyes. "I did that because I knew there would no sight of paparazzi anywhere by this time unless they would be jobless to appear at the airport in the middle of the night just to take a photo of you ".

"They do crazy things these days, who knows if they are capable of that. We can't be too sure of what they can't do ".

"Right but arriving in the country in the middle of the night to avoid the media's attention, that's smart thinking".

"What can I say, I'm smart ". I said praising myself.

He scoffed. "Shut up ".

I chuckled.

My manager and I has a good friendship.

We are usually closer that most people think we are.

I think it's a good way to keep a healthy business relationship.

"Are my schedules tight ?". I asked fearing the answer to that.

"Not that tight. You have interviews and events but the week after that is free. Why are you asking ?".

"Nothing". I glanced outside the window of the car staring at passing houses. "I just want to get some fresh air maybe later ".

"Tell me when so I'll assign bodyguards to you ".

I groan not liking the idea. "Without the protection, please? I just need to be alone ".

"You can be alone in your house, I don't mind. But going alone outside, that's not possible and you know that".

Yeah, I know that.

I know that the moment I step my foot outside in the public eyes without protection or bodyguards of any sort, I would be bluntly attacked by fans asking for a picture, an autograph and stuffs like that.

Or I'll be attacked by stalkers.

Or even worse, the paparazzi.

Remembering all that made me sigh as I began wishing for when I would be able to live my life peacefully away from all the scrutinizing eyes of my fans and haters.
