Chapter 8: You Don't Deserve That

Casey couldn't do anything about the scars on his legs but the worst were on his back and arms so he got a long-sleeved swim shirt along with swim trunks since he hadn't owned any before this. 

Thankfully, Vera didn't say anything about the scars she could see. Either she didn't notice or she was too nice to point them out. 

"Come on, Casey! Let's jump off the diving board!" she urged excitedly, dragging him by the hand like she so often did. 

At least the deep end wasn't a problem. He had been put in swimming lessons when he was little and was a bit rusty but could dog paddle himself around so he didn't drown. 

Casey did what Vera wanted and actually managed to have a good time because she did. Her good moods were often contagious. Besides, nobody was staring at his scars because his legs were under the water most of the time so they weren't even visible.
