Chapter 17: Preparation for the Four Waves

The entire town was busy preparing for the Four Waves. Glenn was still wondering if the Four Waves would attack every town or would it only occur in some towns.

"The notification doesn't state anything," Glenn pointed out. They were in the bell tower again, but this time Melissa was with them. She was the captain of the knights, so her role in their fight would be crucial.

"You are from Heaven like the others, but have more powers than the rest of them?" Melissa asked. "And you have these instructions sent by the Heaven specifically to just some of you?"

"Yes, and yes," Gina said. "And part of these instructions are the Four Waves which is a brutal scene."

"In our past life, it took us a hard time to deal with this battle," Glenn added. The three of them agreed to call the world they came from their 'past life' as to not confuse Melissa. "I'm sure in this life, it will be as equally hard."

"You had lives before this?" Melissa asked. "You mean in Heaven?"

"This is just one of our few reincarnations," John said. "Let's just say that only a few of us were given a chance to retain our memories as well as our powers. For the rest of us, they go back to the start."

"And don't even ask why because we don't know," Gina sighed.

Melissa slowly understood what they were trying to point out. They needed the help from the Knights as well as the Adventurers because not one group could defeat the Four Waves alone.

"Tell me," Melissa said. "What happens in the Four Waves?"

Glenn took out a roll of parchment and rolled it on the floor of the bell tower. It was a drawing of him narrating the Four Waves like ancient engravings on walls.

"The first Wave is the mildest. The Army of the Dead will be just a swarm of a thousand skeleton warriors that we can just exterminate," Glenn said.

"One thousand skeleton warriors?" Melissa gasped. "And that's the mildest? I can barely imagine the next wave."

"It's the easiest because the warriors are dumb little minions," Gina said. "A thousand of them is easy to eliminate. We have over hundreds of Adventurers and knights here."

Glenn nodded, "But the difficulty will greatly increase as the Waves are conquered. The second one is a rain of flaming arrows. This will be on for several minutes at a time until we find the Bow Hunter.

"The Bow Hunter will hide amongt the clouds. The closer we get to her, the stronger the rain is going to get," Glenn continued. "It will not stop completely until the Bow Hunter is killed."

"The next ones are gruesome battles," John said. "From rain of arrows, we go directly into swarms of flesh eating spawns. The Demonic Locust will be sent here by a summoner, that's called Baron of Diseases. He will summon locusts that will continue to attack this town until he is killed."

"The Locust will eat all flesh in their sight," Glenn said. "For this one, we need everyone inside safe buildings and install giant flame torches all throughout the town."

"Consider that done," Melissa said, then she gulped. "One, two, three waves. What's the last one?"

"The Death Lord," Glenn said in dismay. "He will take one participant to his arena and that person will fight him. If that person fails, the Death Lord will take another, and another."

"What if he takes the weakest ones and then slowly go up?" Melissa asked.

"They'll all die," Glenn said darkly. "The Death Lord will not stop until he is defeated. He will continue to take and take until such time that he is killed."

"But he can't determine who's the strongest and weakest among us here," Gina said to calm Melissa down. "The Death Lord will take participants randomly. It's just a matter of luck and fate."

After their talk with Melissa, they sent her to install the giant torches for the third Wave. Melissa was more than willing to help them in order to protect her people. She couldn't try to report to the kingdom because a message was sent to her and it said everyone in the kingdom is suffering the same.

It was also a mutual decision for the Prime Adventurers to tell the captains of each town about what would happen. Glenn figured out that it was a no brainer for the rest of the Prime Adventurers to do this because they needed the participation of everyone.

"Glenn," Gina called out to Glenn as he dazed out. "You're worried about those kids, aren't you?"

"Not just those kids," Glenn sighed. "I'm worried about everything. How many among the seven billion population of Earth is left after they sent us here? This town is just one of the thousands of towns across all servers and we're already having a hard time."

"Don't worry about it," John nudged Glenn's shoulders and grinned at him. "It's all going to be fine."

"But we have to seriously discuss the Waves," Gina said. "We left some parts for Melissa because it included in game mechanics."

"Such as the part where the Bow Hunter is fought by the player after a wisp guides us to her in a mountain that's up in the skies?" John asked. "Or the part where in game the player is automatically selected as the participant of Death Arena?"

"Both," Gina sighed. "What if that wisp would never come? Technically, we have three players. Will there be three wisps or will there be none?"

"We will know when it arrives," Glenn said. "But for now, we have to keep them safe."

"You're really attached to them, huh?" Gina smirked. "We will be with you, Glenn. We got your back."

A memory flashed in Glenn's mind. Several smiles of children while his lips formed the same. "Thank you."

He went down from the bell tower and took out several gear from his inventory slots. He placed each one of the items on the ground will he kneeled and took more out.

In front of him were Felix and his group, wondering what was Glenn doing. They watch him group the items on the ground while Gina and John added some too.

"Take these," Glenn said. "Today, we will level you up in the forest. The battle is about to begin, and none of you should die."
