Chapter 19: Chapter 19 - Ghost of Resentment

Quinn doesn't know if there are ghosts in this world, but he knows there are ghost-type Pokémon. Pokémon of this type usually come and go without a trace, living in the shadows of the city and in various abandoned ancient houses and villas. Because of the fact they make the surrounding temperature of wherever they stay drop a lot, and they can make themselves appear as a person's fears, their appearance often causes human panic.

In addition, within the anime and games, there exists a "Ghost World"- otherwise referred to as the world of spirits. According to the legends, there is the kingdom of the dead, and it is the habitat of ghost-type Pokémon. The gatekeeper of the spiritual world, Dusknoir, will travel back and forth between the Ghost World and the mortal plane to guide the wandering souls who are hesitant to pass over.

'Were my nightmares the past two days caused by a Pokémon?' Quinn thought.

Cramorant went out for a quick fly before he woke up, and only Quinn and Budew were left in the dorm room. They both stared at the orb that had reappeared with serious faces.

A spirit that can make people have nightmares and make the surrounding temperature drop... Could it be the Pitch-Black Pokémon Darkrai? Or maybe just a different ghost-type with the ability to devour life force? If it's the latter, then when I fell asleep I shouldn't have woken up...

'This is reality, and the ghosts of lights are not necessarily as dangerous as shown in the anime...' Quinn thought calmly.

Thinking of this, he quickly rolled over and got out of bed. He had class today, so after eating breakfast in the cafeteria, Quinn went to the library to check ghost related books.

The book says that most of the ghost-type Pokémon's personalities are insidious and cunning, and some vicious ones even take the initiative to attack humans. It's not uncommon for humans to be injured and may die as a result of the attack.

After leaving the library, Quinn went to Maya who often took photos of wild Pokémon to ask to borrow her camera. And after returning to his room, he placed the camera on his bedside facing toward the Cursed Orb.

Because of said orb, Quinn and Budew were a little scared- so they wandered outside until the evening. Before going to bed, they threw the orb into the river behind the school without much hope.

After taking a shower and laying down, Quinn fell into a deep sleep.

It was still a restless night, and when morning had arrived, the Orb appeared again as he had expected. Quinn wasn't too surprised, so he brought the camera to the living room, and proceeded to check the video of last night with Budew.

"Gah?" Cramorant looked at this scene dully, and then moved his head over to watch the camera too.

As the video started, it was still out of focus and the lens shook slightly, but not long after it focused and the picture became clear.

That is the video of when Quinn was setting up the camera. Seeing this, he sped up the tape to see if the video caught anything. The full moon outside the window rose to the highest point of the night sky, and the bright and pale moonlight was reflected on the desk through the window.

The dim light draws a clear dim boundary line between the bedside and the wooden floor. One hour, two hours, three hours... Suddenly, a black shadow appeared on the screen.

"Gah?"

"Bud!"

The shallow moonlight hit the black shadow, making Quinn able to fully see it. It was a dark purple creature with a round shape, with thorn-like bulges growing on its back, and blood-red eyes full of weirdness. Perhaps it noticed that something was watching it, so it turned around and looked in the direction of the camera.

A scary scene soon appeared, the corners of the creature's mouth bent upwards, revealing a sinister and terrifying smile.

"Bud!" Budew didn't dare look any longer, and tightly shut her eyes.

"Gah?" Cramorant still had a dull face and continued staring at the camera.

"..." Quinn just looked at Cramorant silently.

Well, he knows who caused his nightmares.

'Gengar... The final evolution of Ghastly, with a sinister and cunning personality, who likes to prank people.' As he thought this Quinn felt a cold breath on his neck...

He stiffened, and when he turned his head, he saw a pale face. More importantly, it wasn't Gengar he saw but himself! Although he already knew that Gengar was the one scaring him, he was still caught off guard by the sudden situation, and fell on the floor, his heart racing.

"Gengar Gengar!" Gengar let out a successful laugh.

(E/N -- Video will be commented for context on the laugh.)

After his fearful reaction, Quinn's face was expressionless while looking at Gengar.

Seeing that he didn't piss his pants like those people before, Gengar was taken aback, and suddenly Quinn heard a human voice, "Aren't you afraid of me?"

'It can talk?' Quinn was a little surprised, until he realized it should be telepathy.

Gengar returned to its original shape with a comical 'BANG', and his chubby body floated in the air.

Quinn didn't even know what to say for a while. In his impression, Gengar was horrifying, but he did not expect that Gengar in this world isn't so scary. Its chubby body actually looks cute and naive.

Thinking about it, he decided to cooperate with Gengar and said, "I'm so scared, please don't hurt me!"

Gengar finally showed a satisfied expression, "It's right to be afraid, but as long as you can do three things for me, I won't eat you, and I can tell you a place where there's treasure!"

At the same time, the status of Gengar appeared in his mind.

[Gengar♂]

Typing: Ghost, Poison

Ability: Cursed Body, Levitate

Base Stats: 520 (Health: 60, Attack: 65, Defense: 60, Sp. Atk: 150, Sp. Def.: 75, Speed: 110)

Known Moves: Hypnosis, Payback, Mean Look, Dark Pulse, Confuse Ray, Astonish, Shadow Ball, Dream Eater, Night Shade, Curse, Destiny Bond

Current Mood: ???

Physical State: Spiritualized (After dying with resentment, it cannot touch or be touched by anything physical.)

Favorability: 5 (He likes your attitude towards your Pokémon.)

Quinn suddenly realized something was wrong, the special attack value of this Gengar is so high!

The average Gengar has a Sp. Atk stat of 130, but this one has reached 150!

Quinn remembered his previous speculation, could it be that this Gengar is also the same as the giant Dragonite at Bill's Lighthouse and Koga's Greninja? He somehow broke through his own limits and increased his base-stats?

Seeing the human in front of him looking at him in a daze, Gengar showed a dissatisfied expression and said, "Are you listening to me?"

"Ah? I'm listening, what three things do you need help with?" he replied.

Why does he feel like it's like a Genie's lamp in reverse? Thinking of this, Quinn looked at the orb, but suddenly realized that as Gengar appeared, the information on the orb had also changed.

[Sealing Orb: An orb that has been passed down from ancient times to now, and is used to seal a spiritual body.]
