Chapter 2: Or He is Mu Fei

"H-He's awake!"

A surprised exclamation that was very foreign to his ears greeted him as his consciousness back, apart from the unfamiliar scene in front of him. A roof made of wood and tile. Since when was the hospital ceiling like this?

Luo Fei blinked as his brain slowly digested everything. Then he heard footsteps approaching him. Not merely one, but several people were coming to him. However, only one entered his vision. A man with long hair, also a mustache and beard that luckily wasn't grown long as the hair.

The man took his hand, causing Luo Fei to wince at the pain there. Then he didn't know what the man was doing for the next few seconds. What was clear, he felt palpation near the source of the wound.

Luo Fei's eyes were still fixed forward when the man finished his activities and said, "His pulse is still weak. But, thankfully, he could come back." There was wisdom in his voice.

"Is that true?"

The man cleared his throat to correct the doubt the questioner had raised. "His condition is still weak. I'll prepare some medicine to speed up his recovery."

A middle-aged man with gray hair dyed on some sides of his hair stepped forward. "Thank you, Master Bao. Let's continue our talk outside."

Master Bao, the man who had just checked on Luo Fei, did a quick check one last time before following the words of someone who seemed much older and wiser than him. Of course. He is the principal of Lan Tian Academy. Grandmaster Fu Chou is one of the four greatest school principals in the entire country.

But, Luo Fei was clearly not aware of all of those facts. He didn't even know where he was.

Grandmaster Fu Chou made a gesture to let Master Bao out. Furthermore, Grandmaster Fu Chou followed behind him. And now, there were three young men left in the room. Luo Fei, who was still lying down, Jianyi, who had been standing by the door and watching everything, and Feng Ren, who was standing between them with a broom in his hand.

Silence for a while. It was an awkward situation that didn't show the closeness between them at all.

"M-Mu Fei, how are you doing?" Feng Ren broke the ice. Someone had to start the conversation, or they would be stuck in eternal silence.

Both Luo Fei and Jianyi did not show any reaction. Even when Feng Ren walked over to Luo Fei, the young man didn't change his gaze.

"Hey, Mu Fei." Feng Ren called out again. But, nothing.

Seeing that, Jianyi felt the need to join in. He took slow steps but looked impatient at the same time. "How are you doing?" His voice was calm, showing that he was a refined young man. In a way, everything related to him referred to serenity and elegance.

Only when the same question appeared twice and still no answer did Luo Fei turn his head. Finally, he could see the two people he was talking to. Wait. If only the three of them were there, then all the previous questions were aimed at him. Right?

And the desire to answer them vanished after seeing the appearance of the two who were very foreign to him. They wore similar clothes, very long and layered robes that covered their entire bodies. They were in the same color. Sky blue with white inners.

Luo Fei had difficulty swallowing. He had known the costume because he had seen it several times in colossal plays or cultural festivals. But he didn't expect to see it this close.

But that was nothing compared to the other surprises that plagued him. He was wearing a similar outfit. A long, loose white robe—minus the blue one—wrapped his entire body. What was this?

His hands moved, intending to touch his body. However, he suddenly felt a pain in his wrists. Then, he saw the red color seep into the white cloth wrapped around them.

"Don't move too much. Your wound hasn't dried yet," Feng Ren prevented him from moving fast. He then helped Luo Fei, who was about to change into a sitting position.

"Didn't he tell you not to move around much?" Jianyi's tone was almost flat. But he was scolding Mu Fei for his reckless actions that caused his wound to open again. Or Mu Fei wished so that all his blood drained out and then died. Wasn't that what Mu Fei expected when he cut off both his wrists? Luckily, some peers who were serving time found him flooded in blood. Otherwise, Mu Fei would no longer be in front of him in that state.

Luo Fei glanced sharply at Jianyi. Didn't they know that they aroused his curiosity? Who were they?

"I heard it." The first sentence that left Luo Fei's lips was a grunt. He was sick and still got scolded by a stranger. That was great. "But who are you?" And a question.

Fen Ren laughed awkwardly at his question. Even though they weren't close, Mu Fei couldn't possibly forget him since they were classmates. So was Jianyi. "No kidding, please."

Luo Fei's brows furrowed in displeasure. He hated to be thought of that way when he didn't even show the joke. "Who's kidding? I'm serious. Who are you?"

"That's not funny, Mu Fei," Feng Ren said, still chuckling clumsily.

Luo Fei snorted in annoyance. "Mu Fei, Mu Fei? You said that name earlier." His lips pursed in annoyance. "Who is Mu Fei?"

Feng Ren's laughter slowly disappeared, replaced by a confused look. He then turned to Jianyi and called out his name, asking for help. "Jianyi..."

Jianyi immediately took charge of the situation. He switched positions with Feng Ren to sit next to Luo Fei—or Mu Fei for them. "What is this place?" He asked, looking straight into Mu Fei's eyes.

Luo Fei's head moved to survey the surroundings. "Um, this is an antique room." That was all he could describe. "I'm not sure where this is." His brain really couldn't figure out his whereabouts.

"What was the last time you remembered?"

"I was walking home when a truck hit me." This time, Luo Fei answered by returning Jianyi's gaze. He didn't need to think because his memory of the accident was still vivid.

"A truck?" Jianyi and Feng Ren parroted simultaneously.

The two of them stared at each other. But only Feng Ren asked, "What is a truck?"

Luo Fei laughed at that. "Seriously? You guys don't know a truck?" He certainly wouldn't believe it. Who didn't know a truck? Even children had played with the miniature version of that.

Jianyi and Feng Ren slowly shook their heads in unison.

"A car? Plane?"

They shook their heads again.

"Phone?"

Again, the shake showed by them.

After realizing the seriousness of their reactions, it woke him up to how serious the situation was. "Where am I?" he asked with a frown appearing again on his forehead.

Now, Feng Ren turned to laugh at his question. "Where else? You're at Lan Tian Academy," he said proudly.
