Chapter 5: Adventure awaits
"I would like to join your party." Asta said. "We do have free spots after Alice and Reynolds left some time ago however, you first need to confirm you're registered with the adventurers guild." said Helen. "I'm not registered with the adventures guild however I'd like to be registered with the adventurers guild. Where can I register ?" asked Asta. "You can register in Xyrus city, we're actually heading there so you can join us unofficially until we reach" said Helen.
"No offense but do you guys just let anyone join your party don't I need to do a test or something?" asked Asta. "You just killed a B class mana beast in front of us, that's enough of proof for us to invite you." responded Helen.
Time-skip next day Asta and Adam are talking when Adam asks Asta...
"Hey Abel, what core stage are you at ?" asked Adam. "What's a core stage ?" asked Asta. "You don't know what a core stage is ? but aren't you an augmenter ?" asked Adam. "I don't know what a core stage or an augmenter is, sorry." responded Asta. "Then how did you kill that monster ?" asked Adam. "That's for me to know and you to wonder." responded Asta.
"Regardless let me give you a quick explanation, your core stage is the level of your mana core. A mana core starts out black then from ascending order becomes red, orange, yellow, silver and white. Each stage can be further divided into dark, solid and light except silver which is split into initial, mid and high and white core which does not have stages.
The power to control mana is largely genetic, roughly 1 in 100 children are able to sense mana. Mages are able to use 4 types of Elements : Fire, water, earth and wind. By enhancing or merging some elements few mages are able to use unique elements these mages are known as deviants. These elements are race exclusive, all of the ones I know are :
Water → Ice (Humans only)
Water + Earth → Plant (Elves only)
Earth → Gravity (Humans & Dwarves)
Earth → Metal (Dwarves only)
Earth + Fire → Magma (Dwarves only)
Fire → Lightning (Humans only)
Wind → Sound (Humans & Elves)
There are also special deviants such as healers however they are very rare the only one I've ever met is Alice.
There are two types of mages firstly, there are augmenters are people who enhance their bodies using mana, allowing them to possess incredible strength, defence and agility. Secondly, there are conjurers people who emit mana to the outside world allowing them to bend their surroundings to their will." explained Adam.
Asta was surprised, all his life he could never use magic however core magic is clearly different from the magic he wasn't able to use. That means even though he was unable to use magic he may be able to use core magic. "Thanks for the explanation, is there a way to form a mana core?" asked Asta.
"It happens naturally once people reach adolescence for some people it's... " responded Adam
Adam's voice started to fade and a mysterious voice took over "Meditate, when meditating inside your body you should be able to feel tens of thousands of small fragments, move them and gather them in your solar plexus. For normal people with core magic capabilities this happens naturally however you are past the age for this to occur that way hence you need to manually move these fragments." said a mysterious voice talking to Asta directly through his mind.
"Who are you?" asked Asta in his mind. "One day, I'll reveal myself to you, for now all you need to know is I'm helping you." responded the mysterious voice in Asta's mind. "Hey Abel, are you still following me?" asked Adam. "I'm listening, thanks for the info Adam I'm gonna go meditate now" said Asta.
"Push the fragments together eh.." Asta said. For the next couple of months Asta meditated and grew closer to the twin horns party members.
Time-skip 3 months
"Hey Abel" said Helen. "Yes, what is it ?" responded Asta. "We need to go on a mission today, we need you and jasmine to defend the camp." said Helen. "Okay." responded Asta. "Lighten up a little Abel we'll be back soon" said Helen. "Okay." responded Asta. Helen sighs and said "Never mind".
After, Helen and the others went on mission leaving Asta and Jasmine behind to defend the caravan. "Hey Jasmine to pass the time wanna duel?" asked Asta. "If you insist." responded Jasmine. Jasmine attacked first, her attacks were very precise. She used wind magic to enhance the power and precision even further. Jasmine however was like a glass cannon, Asta was able to dodge all her attacks using Ki which meant he easily won the fight as Jasmine's defence was poor.
After the duel was over Jasmine asked Asta "How did you do-". "Ki, that's how I dodged your attacks" said Asta. "What's Ki?" asked Jasmine. "Ki is like a 6th sense, by relying less on your senses you can develop it. Using Ki you can predict attacks in advance, that's how I dodged your attacks." answered Asta.
2 hours later, the other twin horns party members returned. From that day onwards Asta often duelled with Jasmine to help her improve. Asta and Jasmine became closer. (Still as friends for now)
Time-skip 3 months
"It's been 6 months since I unofficially joined the twin horns party, we have reached Xyrus city and I have finally gathered the fragments together it's time to assemble my mana core." said Asta.
