Chapter 8: An awkward party

After spending three days cooped up in the library reading as much as possible, I realised something... I really hate studying. I am a seven year old okey?

You might be thinking like hey, as a reincarnated adult who also knows how dangerous this world is... shouldn't you just overcome your basic human instincts to laze around and ignore your actual origin and stop desiring to laze around? Well... f*ck you that's what.

Anyway, I barely finished two books even while dedicating three whole days to them, in my defence the books were both huge and incredibly boring.

I ended up running around annoying the servants like a good young master should do and making little airplane papers with 'gun' transmutation circles designed to throw fireworks instead of, well, actual bullets. Basically as soon as the airplane landed on the floor or hit a wall, I activated it and, well you can imagine the rest.

"I don't have time to be lecturing you about not making noise. everyone else is researching so we can't have your little plays here, understood?" said my mom in her still stoic face.

"Well I do understand, but I was bored."

"Huh, I did read that kids usually tried to get their parents attention by playing pranks and misbehaving. Is that what you are doing?"

"Huh?"

"I am confused as well, so tell me, is that it or not?" sigh, this woman really has a nonexistent eq. Honestly it surprises me that she managed to get married.

"Of course not, if you give me something to actually entertain myself with, I won't be going around annoying others. Back home my butler would have huts built so that I could destroy them or he would take me out to eat at fancy restaurants. Here it's just boring." I explain.

Before you think anything else, you don't get to judge me, I mean look at you, waisting your time watching series and reading this, I used to be like that so obviously I am not quite good at spending time not being in front of a computer. I get bored easily even if my life is on the line.

"Hmmm, well talk to the maids or something. Just don't cause so much noise from now on."

"Sure. Anyway I am going to go get dressed for the party if you have nothing else to say."

She just nodded while I stood up and went to my room.

I kind of have hopes of actually finding someone kind of normal in there, but then again... they might be just like my family in which case I will have to spend the rest of however long I spend here in Atlas bored out of my mind.

We arrived at the party together, like a family is supposed to, but then we immediately separated, by which I mean they totally abandoned me, like a magus family is supposed to I guess.

.

Well this is awkward... ever been to a party were you know no one? Ever been to a party were there is no one your age? Ever been to hell? Well if this three situations were to be combined, the result would be without a doubt the abomination I am currently attending.

Let's ignore the absolute lack of styling sense they have, basically the hideous wizard robes from Hogwarts, let's also ignore the lack of music, I mean what kind of party doesn't have music but whatever, I could even ignore the lack of food, since I just ate, but why oh why mother of god do they have to talk about their experiments and all that so much!

I understand they are alchemist and that is all they do... but still! I left the library and came here because I was tired of that, not because I wanted to hear more of it! I am lying, I came here because I wasn't sure if saying that I didn't want to come would be disrespectful or something, but still!

I came to the conclusion that I should walk around and familiarise myself with the area, in case an attack or something like that happens... definitely not because this is the peak of awkwardness and I don't know what to do.

While walking around I came across a blonde pale man that looked at me with interest, but it creeped the sh*t out of me so I just kept walking.

By the time some people came holding a baby that caught the attention of everyone, all I accomplished was hearing some gossip about a kid, apparently the kid had lost some memories and he will attend the academy soon... man talk about mc vibes right there. Who knows maybe we can be friends or something, I mean if he will attend the academy he should be quite smart, especially if he lost part of his memories.

"Attention everyone, this is my daughter Latio Crudelis Hiram, the future heir of house Crudelis." said a man with blue hair.

Everyone clapped in a sophisticated manner, which in case you don't know, is clapping your hands lightly while simultaneously looking like a complete douche.

"Now, continue enjoying the night." said the man before leaving.

Damn, was that supposed to be a speech or something?

If I am not mistaken, he should be one of the six Sources, at least form what I heard around, so... is it kind of like a requirement for being a Source to also be useless at social interactions?

After a couple more hours of sneaking around here and there, hearing some rumours and discussions about mystic codes and being creeped out by people, I finally left to the gardens to kill some bugs with my alchemy using the word 'practice' as an excuse to not admit the fact that I was acting like a freaking psychopath.

The gardens were quite beautiful, not at all something I expected to see in the Atlas Mountain's, but then again... I wasn't expecting anything at all in the Atlas Mountain's. The gardens were pretty much what I imagined the gardens of Babylon to be. Utterly beautiful, especially with the stars above.

I ran around pursuing some small bugs while trying to activate the 'spike' alchemy on my left sole, each time focusing on something different. Speed, accuracy, size, shape, density, I needed to familiarise with everything before taking it a step further.

Eventually, people started leaving and the curse they referred to as party finally ended.

As we make our way back home in silence, I am honestly glad about having come here today. That's right, I now have knowledge about how terrible parties are, which means I can plan in advance on countless excuses to not attend them.
