Chapter 18: Discoveries
It's now midnight and I'm heading towards Beacon to check on Yang's corpse and see just what was so different about it that made Ker point it out to me. I arrived at the bridge of Beacon which is in an only slightly better state than it was yesterday. I make my way through and finally reach the cafeteria where her corpse is.
I enter and there's no lighting which is to be expected. So I take out one of my blades and ignite it before walking deeper in. I make it to the corpse and it looks untouched. Ker then comes out of my shadow to inspect it closer.
"Well? Did you find anything about it?" I ask.
"No, so far I haven't found anything." He says.
He sniffs it and he bumps his nose against the corpse and, nothing. I sigh, but just as I'm about to get up a small crack appears where he touched her. I crouch back down and the cracks start traveling in small spurts across her face. Soon her whole face is covered by those cracks.
"I think I might know what this is now..." Ker says.
Before I get the chance to talk the cracks start pulsating a black energy before a piece of skin falls off revealing black flesh underneath as it fades away into dust. Soon more and more skin start to fall as the cracks start expanding down her neck and through the rest of her intact upper half.
"It's a shapeshifter grimm. I haven't seen a lot of these because they're quite rare and are very good at impersonating someone." He says.
"Did you feel anything off about Yang before the attack?" I ask.
"No, nothing stood out to me before the attack." He answers.
"Hmm, then someone must have kidnapped her and replaced her with this grimm during the attack..." I say thinking out loud.
"What do you suppose we do about this?" He asks.
"I'm not entirely sure, it's at least good that she's probably not dead. But then that'll make Ruby even more determined to get revenge and might do something reckless out of pure anger. I think I'll talk to Glynda about this first and see how it goes from there." I say.
Ker nods and re-enters my shadow before I start the trek back to Glynda's apartment. I arrive in front of her door and I check my scroll to see that it's already 2 a.m. So I grab the spare key Glynda gave me and slowly unlock and open the door.
Once I'm inside I close the door as quietly as I can before locking and putting it back in my pocket. I turn around to see Glynda in a nightgown sitting one the couch with a scowl and glare directed at me.
"Where and what have you been doing that made you come back here at 2 in the morning mister?" She asks with irritation clear in her voice.
"Sorry, but I went to check Yang's corpse because there was something off about it." I say sitting beside her.
"And what did you find out?" She asks in a calmer tone.
"That she might have been kidnapped and that the corpse is a shapeshifter grimm." I say causing her to go into a thinking position.
"This is troubling... a shapeshifter hasn't been spotted in years so we thought they died off. But now.. now we don't know who's real and who's not. Then there's the question on how Ruby will react to this. And I can't think of that many positive outcomes." She says contemplatively.
"I think that it's probably for the better not to tell her, it'll definitely make it worse if she finds out her sister is probably alive but that's a very slim chance she'll find out." I say.
Glynda thinks for a few moment before nodding in agreement. After that we called it a day and got into bed.

It's the next day and I just bought another tub of ice cream, which for some reason seems to summon Neo no matter what time of day it is.
'Ruby is looking for you, you probably know the reason as to why.' She signs.
I sigh, so she does come to me after all. "Alright, thanks for the heads up." I say.
She nods and we continue on our own ways. I sit on a bench in a park waiting for Ruby to find me so I can get this over with as quickly as possible. Then as I'm halfway through the tub Ruby finds me and walks over to me with a familiar look in her eyes. Anger, pain, and sadness.
She walks up to me with her weapon on her lower back. She stops in front of me with her arms crossed, she's about to speak but I hold up a hand which she understands as 'wait'. I eat some more of the ice cream before facing up at her.
"Yes?" I ask.
"Train me." She says in a demanding tone.
"And why should I?" I ask even though I already know what she's going to say.
"So I can get revenge on that Cinder bitch who made up this whole plan and got my sister killed." She says adamant.
"No." I say shortly which angers her and she does nothing to hide it.
"But why!? You trained Pyrrha, so why not me!?" She shouts.
"Because, Ruby. She wanted to protect the ones close to her and the defenseless. While you on the other hand, want to use that training for revenge. And trust me when I say this, it's a bloody path and you won't feel closure at the end of it." I say.
"So what? It's not like you really know how this feels." She says.
"Oh I know how it feels, more than you ever will. So don't go looking to me for help." I say.
She grits her teeth and tightens her grip on the handle of her weapon. She's going to do something stupid in 3, 2, 1 and...
"I said train me!" She shouts as she lunges out of anger with her weapon now unfolded.
I put the tub of ice cream beside me before getting up. She goes for a slash but I dash forward and grab the handle of her scythe, before kicking her away with the scythe still in my hand.
"I said no." I say.
She doesn't say anything but just shouts as she dashes at me with her fists raised. I sigh and when she gets close enough I punch downwards on to the top of her head. This causes her face to slam into the ground which probably broke her nose. I slam the scythe embedding it deep into the ground before picking up the tub of ice cream and leaving.
