Chapter 2: the moments

He frowned, "why do you say that?"

"Well you must have seen it coming, right?" she said sadly. "It was obvious from the moment you met me, and even though I was dating someone else, you didn't treat me like a friend, you treated me like I was some kind of charity case. It was just plain rude and uncalled for."

"No, no Sakura, it wasn't," he protested quickly. "It was…it's just…." He paused for a second, "you were so nice and kind, and I guess I just forgot about myself and just took advantage of you. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."

She bit her lip and looked down, "don't worry about it, Kiyoshi, it doesn't matter anymore."

He stood up and approached her slowly, "please Sakura, it does matter, you're my best friend, and you deserve someone better than me."

"What? Kiyoshi, I don't need anyone else," she argued, still not looking at him.

He stopped in front of her and reached for her hands, she looked up at him finally and met his gaze, "but you deserve better than me Sakura."

Her eyes filled with tears, he reached forward and gently brushed them away.

"Don't cry SakuraShe shook her head and sniffled, "no, I don't wanna cry, I don't wanna make you feel guilty or whatever," she muttered and wiped her nose.

"But you are making me feel guilty," he mumbled. "I know, I know, you're not good at showing it, but it's there, I can see it."

"Kiyoshi, no, you're not good at showing it either," she argued.

"Maybe not, but I try," he defended, "and I am trying, and I know you can see it too."

She smiled weakly, "maybe I can."

"Please stop beating yourself up over it, okay?" he continued, leaning forward and wiping the rest of her tears away. "Just...just ignore me, alright?"

She nodded.

"Good," he whispered and kissed her cheek before sitting back again. She smiled and hugged his toy and buried her head in his shoulder.

"Thanks Kiyoshi," she said quietly. "You're a great brother."

He smiled softly, "thank you, Sakura."

She giggled a little, then looked over at him, "what happened last night?" she asked, smiling brightly.

He blushed, "uh…nothing much. Just had some problems with my school, but other than thatit's been pretty quiet."

"Oh yeah? How is your school going?"

"Pretty well, actually," he replied, grinning slightly.

She grinned and nodded, "how is everything else at your school going?"

"Oh, you know, same old, same old," he said, waving his hand. "Nothing new there."

She smiled and shook her head, "what a boring answer."

"Hey!" he objected.

She chuckled, "you're probably right," she admitted, then sighed, looking back at him with an unreadable expression, "you sure you're okay though, Kiyoshi?"

He nodded, "yeah, I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?"

She sighed and rolled her eyes and shook her head, "no reason."

He raised an eyebrow curiously. "You don't think I should tell someone?"

She shook her head, "nah, I don't think it'd be good if everyone knows."

"Yeah," he agreed. "But what if it gets worse?"

"Then we'll deal with it then, right?" she asked.

He nodded and sighed.

"Besides, even if it gets worse, you've already been through so much, I don't want you dealing with anything else, okay?" she told him.

He nodded slowly."Alright, good," she smiled and looked up at him, "now that we have that settled."

He chuckled, "yeah."

She glanced over at him, "so what are you gonna do today?"

He thought for a moment, "well I was planning to read this book I borrowed earlier, but I could also watch some movies or something."

"Do you think you can find another book that's good?" she asked and yawned.

"I don't know," he replied honestly.

"Hmmm…" she hummed, then she looked up at him again, "if it's really bothering you that much then you shouldn't read it, why don't you just play some video games?"

"Okay."

She chuckled slightly and nodded, "okay then."

"Okay…" he repeated.

"Anyway, let's eat breakfast now, I'm hungry."

He smirked and nodded, then got up from where he had been sitting and walked to the kitchen. He grabbed two plates and placed one in front of his mother and then set one for himself on the table, he grabbed a fork and began eating, he heard the TV turn on a few seconds later and he knew that it would be on some anime that his mother liked to watch when she wanted to take her mind off of thingshe picked up the plate and carried it back into the living room as the show started, his mother followed closely behind him and sat down on the sofa. As soon as she had taken a seat she pulled out her phone and sent a text message to the group chat: [i hope you guys aren't all asleep yet]
