Chapter 2: Ashber

These past couple of weeks after my birth have been torture for me. I couldn't use my arms, couldn't speak, couldn't walk, and couldn't even eat actual food. All I could do was wave my limbs like they were flags.

During this period, I learned that when you place your finger on a baby's palm, they don't grab it because they like you, but because it's a reflex. I couldn't control my bladder, so trying to move was out of the question.

From what I knew and saw, I hoped that this town I'm currently in was my world in the medieval era, where no one invented electricity. Unfortunately, my mother proved me wrong as she created a green light that completely healed my knee after my father bumped me against a drawer while swinging me around.

'Do not shake the baby.' I thought that was a well-known rule of being a parent, but apparently, my father did not know that.

Ahem... Focusing on the main issue, my mother had a kind of healing magic and could materialize it, so it's easy to guess that I'm not actually on Earth. It was uncomfortable to know I was in an entirely new world, but hey, how many people can say they reincarnated into a new world?

My mother, Alice Leywin, is someone I suspected to be an angel because I had never met such a kindhearted and gentle person. My father was called Reynolds Leywin, and despite his idiotic nature and lack of knowledge on raising a baby, he was one of the kindest people I have ever met.

My mother liked to take me out on a baby cradle to what everyone called a town. It was more of an outpost than a town, especially when compared to Earth. There weren't any roads or pavement, and the entire town just had a dirt trail as a road.

While my mother walked on the main dirt trail, I noticed tents on both sides of the road with various merchants selling various types of stuff. They sold everything, ranging from everyday necessities to things I couldn't understand, like weapons, armor, and shining rocks?

It seemed there weren't many laws about weaponry since I could see people casually walking around with weapons as if they were jewelry to show off. While I was absorbing the various unexpected sights, my mother kept talking to me to help me learn the language faster, which is a good plan.

Letting out a yawn, I could feel my eyelids grow heavier as my mother glanced back at me with a chuckle before patting my head. I wasn't sure why, but my body took that as a sign and fell asleep.

I sat on my mother's lap as she caressed me in her bosom. I watched my father recite what sounded like a chant, or more accurately, a prayer to the Earth.

After a couple of minutes of chanting, he opened his eyes, and I leaned closer to the edge of my mother's lap. I expected some magical event like a sinkhole, an earthquake, or something like that.

As my father opened his eyes, three human-sized boulders emerged from the ground and slammed against a nearby tree, barely denting it despite their size.

Five minutes of concentrating, and you couldn't even destroy a small tree?!

I let myself fall into my mother's embrace, unwilling to give my father any reaction to something as pathetic as this. Unfortunately, my mother thought I wanted to sleep and picked me up before placing me in my crib.

I pouted at that, but my mother just walked towards the kitchen to prepare some food for my father. Letting out a weak sigh that was the limit of my infantile body, I slumped down in defeat, unable to do anything but plan my next set of actions.

From what I heard from the various conversations while walking around, this world was a simple world that relied on magic and the warriors that used magic, or mages, as they called them. It was a world where only power, wealth, and looks mattered.

In that sense, it was the same as my old world.

People suffer, hurt each other, and get hurt while those stuck-up nobles enjoy their suffering, relishing their life in the grand cities with no one daring enough to harm them because of their status.

Unlike my old world, there was seemingly only one continent, and the lack of technology led to more deaths, decreased birth rates, and less law enforcement. The only thing I liked about this world might be the fact I had a family, something I never had aside from...

No! I won't repeat the same mistake twice.

I will become strong and protect them. I won't fail my family as I did with my previous family. If it comes down to it, I won't hesitate to help them when they ask me for help, even if it means losing my life.

It's been peaceful so far, but I can't be sure it will keep being that way, especially considering who I am, so I will train to become stronger and protect them.

The most beautiful love isn't necessarily about growing old with your family and the people you love; it could be about watching the people you love grow from afar in peace and harmony.

Letting out a soft sigh, I closed my eyes and focused on sleeping. Unfortunately, however, a light that I hadn't seen before seeped through my eyelids and made me furrow my brows to keep my eyes closed.

To my surprise, when I tried to move the lights away, they moved away. My eyes shot open as I looked around, but I saw nothing. I closed my eyes again and started concentrating on seeing those colorful lights again.

I once again saw the lights, and they moved to my will. Regarding these lights to be amusing, I imagined them drifting towards each other, and they slowly started obeying my command.

I wonder...
