Chapter 3: Risky Adventure

It was night-time as the warrior guards ascended the mountains and took their positions. They were all suited in protective armor-clad and equipped with weapons such as swords, spears, bows, and arrows. Some of them formed shield walls with their shields as if they were expecting an attack.

Meanwhile, Zelta and her friend Zain were in a corner hiding and watching in anticipation of what would happen. They too were armed with their swords for protection.

"Why are they all assembled like this?" whispered Zelta.

"Shhh-- we have to keep silent," replied Zain.

This night was like an adventure and also a suicide mission for the young warriors. Zain was the mastermind. At sunset, when everyone was in the temple, and the guards were off duty, they both sneaked out to the southern river. Immediately the temple gathering was over, they dived into the river, and hid there motionless. That was the route the warriors take to go to the mountain. When they were sure that the warriors had passed and gone a far distance, they came out of the river and followed at a distance till they reached the mountain and hid in between a deep cleavage in the rocks.

"Take your positions everyone, and keep your eyes open. Something's coming," announced O'Neil the lead commander to the soldiers.

" This doesn't sound right, what's coming?" asked Zelta.

" Keep calm, we're about to see it," replied Zain.

" This isn't safe Zain," said Zelta.

" But we can't go back now, it's now or never, " replied Zain.

They began to perceive moving figures approaching them,

" Archers, stretch your bows and aim! shield bearers, keep the wall firm! the rest of you should come with me, let's go see what we're up against, " commanded O'Neil, then he and the troops descended the mountain with torches in one hand and swords in the other.

When they reached near, they saw some sort of creature which looked like wolves but were a lot larger. These strange beasts walked with hind limbs, their claws were about six inches long and their teeth were strangely enormous. The creatures didn't look like they were coming to attack because of the manner in which they bowed their heads. O'Neil noticed this and motioned to his archers to hold their fire. He wanted to be sure enough before an attack.

He slipped his sword back into its patch and stepped towards them slowly. It was at this point that one of the archers accidentally released an arrow at one of the wolves which howled in pain. When O'Neil saw this, he became terrified because he sensed that they were now annoyed.

"Hold your weapons, do not attack them !" cried O'Neil, but he was too late because right now they all began to shoot. This made the large wolves grow angry, as they charged towards them, growling.

Meanwhile, Zelta and Zain were still watching what was going on. As they watched, Zelta was shocked at what she saw. She saw the wounded wolves transform into humans before her very eyes.

" Impossible, do you see that? " asked Zelta.

" See what exactly? " replied Zain.

"Look carefully, those ones transformed into humans,"said Zelta.

" Oh my god, that's unreal," replied Zain.

They began to battle with the wolves but O'Neil, seeing that they were humans, tried not to hurt them, but only evaded their attacks. But then, he got a deep scratch on his back by a wolf.

Seeing that they have no chance of overcoming or getting through the soldier, the wolves began to retreat. The injured ones who had transformed back to humans climbed the backs of the others and then they were gone.

O'Neil quickly restrained one of the wounded, preventing him from escaping.

He bounded him and took him along with him. He felt the pain in his back and began favoring the wound he sustained. He handed the captive over to some other soldiers.

When O'Neil ascended back, he was very annoyed with his men for the way they acted.

" What just happened back there!!?" yelled O'Neil.

" Are you guys deaf, I gave you direct orders to hold your weapons but you just disobeyed me," yelled O'Neil again in annoyance.

" He's the one who started the attack sir," said the second in command De voe pointing at a soldier.

" Who is that? " asked O'Neil.

"It's Alec," replied De voe.

"Hay Alec, you're dismissed," said O'Neil.

" But master ..." muttered Alec.

" Do I have to repeat myself, I said you're dismissed," said O'Neil furiously.

" Hand me your badge, you would not continue with us," said O'Neil.

Then Alec detached a green and red metal badge that was fastened to his armor. He handed it to the master and left their presence. O'Neil looked at the captive and saw he was nude. He further ordered his men to get him some clothes, which they did.

" Let's get out of here before we get caught, " whispered Zain.

Then they began to descend the mountain. On their way down, they saw Alec, the warrior that had just been dismissed from service. They hid so he won't see them.

" There's no point hiding, let's get going before we get caught by the real warriors," said Zelta, then they came out from their hiding place and he saw them in an instant.

"Hay, what are you girls doing out here?" asked Alec in surprise.

" We saw what happened up there " replied Zain.

" What?!" exclaimed Alec in greater surprise, "Were the both of you up there?" he asked

" Well..., it appears we were," replied Zelta.

" Don't you know the consequences, you could have got yourself killed," said Alec.

" Please, we need you to keep this a secret," said Zain.

" I'm so so sorry for what happened back there," said Zelta.

" Your secret is safe with me. You girls should hurry, they will be down soon," said Alec.
