Chapter 2: I Just got here
Looking at my surroundings I see that the portal didn't take me directly to the target. I'm in the middle of the forest with no clear way out. The blinding rays of sunlight that peak in between the leaves of the trees are very warm and comfortable on my unnaturally pale skin. I swipe the stripe of violet hair out of my eyes letting it rest closer to the rest of my silver hair. Stretching my arms and legs I get ready to climb a tree when I hear the sound of stomping in patter only possible by something with 4 legs.
Looking towards the sound I see one of the creatures of Grimm. A beowolf to be exact. Its skull marked with red lines and eyes like molten lava as they bore into mine. Bones protruding from its body makes it look larger and intimidating and is normally a large threat... for normal people. I watch as it just walks away after looking at me, and just a second later I watch as its body starts decomposing while leaking a purple substance.
My semblance is quite the deadly one. For lack of better words it acts like a sickness or a plague. Once I activate it I can send it into the target's body, and I can control its lethality. If I so choose, and the target is weak enough, I can melt them from the inside out. The beowolf is a perfect example of it. The only problem with my semblance is that it takes more aura the deadlier I make it. Furthermore, when I just started practicing with it, it also affected me. That's why Raven trained me with all kinds of Toxins to better help me resist decomposing myself. She trained me so hard that my semblance mutated and i can change part of my body into a poison-like substance.
As i'm lost in thought I feel a liquid slip past my lips. I lick it up and realize that it's just the aftereffect of using my semblance. I start to secrete it, normally through my mouth. 'Still, the taste of it is great... I love grapes.' I thought. 'Anyway, it's time to make my way out of this forest.' Looking around I spot the largest tree and sprint towards it. I run up the trunk of the tree and just before gravity decides to work I grab hold of the nearest branch and pull myself on top of it. Using the branch as a base, I launch myself up the tree and repeat the process until I'm at the top. I look over the leaves only to be blinded by the light, which mind you, was much brighter above the shade than under it.
I'm taken aback once I can actually open my eyes. Patch, as Raven called it, is beautiful. The trees sway while basking in the warm sunlight. The grass on the ground dancing to the wind's tune. And in a grassy clearing, a large two story log house could be seen. Through the windows I see my target along with another girl hugging the person Raven described called Taiyang. The girls leave the house and I follow them from a distance wondering where they were going.
The short walk took us to an airship pad... going off the books I read, this should be to Beacon Academy. I understand why Yang would go there, she is old enough after all. But isn't the red one a little too, young? Maybe I'm being too biased, just because shes short doesn't mean shes actually that young. When the two of them board I get out of my hiding spot and attempt to board as well, only to be stopped by a guard looking dude asking for papers.
"Look dude, I don't got any papers. forgot them at home. Maybe you could let me pass just this once." I saw with an 'innocent' smile.
"Sorry ma'am, but I'm gonna have to ask you to leave. No papers, no entry." He says gruffly while making himself look larger.
'What is your ego that large you think you need to intimidate a teenager?' Clicking my tongue I glare at the guy. "I'm going to be boarding, you can't me from doing so. If you value your life, you'll move out of the way."
I start walking towards the airship when he reaches out to grab me. Only for his hand to pass through my arm and come out with a sticky purple substance on it. "Wha-what was tha- AHHHH!" He screamed as he watched his hand melt down to the bone, and it didn't take long for the bone to dissolve as well. Soon he passed out in shock as for most people, watching your hand melt off is too much to handle.
The scream naturally attracted attention and soon enough someone ran to the guards side to help him. Meanwhile, I'm already on the airship stalking up to my target. She seems to be distracted by the newscast which was then interrupted by another woman showing up to greet the students.
"Who is that?" She asks to seemingly no one.
To my amusement the holograph answered her question, "My name is Glynda Goodwitch." She just responded with a simple "Oh." causing me to chuckle.
The lady on the holograph goes off on a speech while I get right behind Yang and put my hands on her shoulders forcefully, and whisper in her ear, "Boo..." to which I got slapped. Worth it.
"HAhaha he-heh, you shoulda seen the way you jumped! Turns out the big bad blonde is a scaredy cat HAha!" While I was dying with laughter, Yang and her sister were looking at me as if I was the weird one... which I am.
"Who... do I know you or..." she droned causing me to laugh a little more. It took me a good minute to calm down. "No, you don't know me. My name is Slate, your name is Yang, and the little one is... I don't know her." I know I'm being suspicious, and the way Yang narrows her eyes confirms that I am indeed coming off bad.
"How do you know me... you weren't sent to get me to pay for that bar, were you?" She questions while looking like she was ready to fight. Causing me to sigh, 'these people, must they always want to fight.'
"Nah, that's not how I know you. How I know you is on a need to know basis, and unfortunately, you don't need to know.Maybe next time. Right now, I'm here to your friend and you can't say no. I'll annoy you till you have no choice but to say yes." I smile starting to have fun being annoying when I hear someone in the background.
"What a weirdo, did you see her eyes." My smile vanished and I turned around locating the one who dared to make fun of my eyes. Raven told me to destroy anyone who insults them, so I'll do just that. Naturally I can't just kill them, and that would be too petty. Though it would be a shame if their heart suddenly became too weak to live the high thrill lifestyle of a hunter.
Soon enough I just turn back to Yang and red, while the person who insulted me suddenly collapsed clutching their chest. Looking at Yang's sister I ask "So what's your name?"
"Don't tell h-" yang starts but the girl was cut off by her sister, "My name is Ruby! Nice to meet you Slate!" she says in her high pitched voice. Smirking at Yang I continue, "Nice to meet you too Ruby, I think we'll get along great."
Yang looked like she was about to start talking again, but was cut off by a shout making me look over. "Hey, this guy just collapsed! Someone help him!" Sure enough, it was the guy who insulted me. He had a small, almost unnoticeable, amount of my toxin leaking out of his nose only for it to evaporate. Choosing to ignore my doing I look back and catch Yang glaring at me with her eyes flickering red every couple of seconds. I don't even know what I did this time.
"Is something wrong Yang?" I ask causing her to glare a little harder, "Did you do that, I heard him insult you and then all of a second he just collapsed."
'Smart...' I put on a shocked and sad face while saying "How could you blame me for this?! I just boarded the airship and immediately came up to you, so how could I have done this?! On top of that, you just admitted you heard him make fun of me and didn't say anything about it! If anything, you should be ashamed of yourself... JK, I did do it. He made fun of me after all. Oh, but please don't tell anyone. I just got here and I'm already having so much fun, so I'd like to stay a bit longer."
