Chapter 8: chapter eight
When Lily arrived at school that day, she did not expect to receive the glances that were thrown at her. from the first period to almost half of the day, she had become the talking topic of the school. Her praises had given her a reputation as a badass who was not afraid of her teacher and had walked out of his class. Even though she still had detention, her behavior had been perceived as one of the ones who did not care. she had received a couple of smiles and students she knew nothing about waving her way. This is not what Lili wanted. She had walked out of that class because she did not want any attention to herself and she was stopping herself from having another panic attack. she however did not expect that scenario to attract much more unwanted attention.
'' See,'' came the booming voice behind her as she shoved her books into the locker and shut it. she did not need to look twice in order to realize that the irritating voice was Noah's.
'' you're slowly becoming one of the populars and you don't even hang out with us. you're climbing into the third Hall of Fame in this story from just one scenario.'' His words held abundant meaning and a cage of emotions behind them.
'' Well you don't have to keep Protecting your ego. admit it you're jealous of me and you feel threatened.'' Her words showed a lot more courage and confidence than she intended to portray.
'' and why would I be jealous of you?''
'' Well the answer is actually very simple, you have your reputation among the student population. the rise of any other person being respected or feared in the school threatens you. you are an arrogant bastard and the only thing that matters to you is your reputation and your pride and whenever someone raises up to that challenge, you mark them as your new threat.'' There was a moment of silence between the two as Noah took into account what the girl had just said. For a girl who rarely talked, Lily had been showing a lot of potential in figuring people out.
When she began moving towards the far end of the hallway, Noah was right behind her.
''And what has put you in such a grumpy mood today? or what let me guess, did your daddy beat you up yesterday?'' When he asked that question, it was an Innocent joke meant to tease and taunt Lilly. no was not approved when it came to Approaching girls for friendship or making friends in general. he was used to everyone seeking his attention and swarming around him just for his company. he was used to being spoon-fed and as their captain of the basketball team, all girls were falling for him. he however could not wrap his head around why it was so difficult to get this one.
To Lily, hearing those words almost made her lose that grip of humanity. she hated whenever the truth was rubbed in her face in an inhumane manner. The way that Noah spoke about her father made her feel extremely agitated and angry.She had to inhale deeply and convince herself that it was not yet time to come out. Noah was playing with her self-control and he had no boundaries for where his jokes would lead to.
When Lily began working faster, no one noticed the dismissal of his previous statement and wondered whether he had been too sensitive with her to stop as smart as the joke was supposed to irritate her enough, it hit close to home.
'' why are you following me?'' Lily asked suddenly after I noticed that right I was still working in the direction she was heading to. He was not coming alone on her side. She wanted to get rid of and a parasite that was sucking up her personal space and mental peace. She hated having people that close to her because of fear that they would notice the heavy load of Foundation applied on her face or how good she was at hiding the scars.
Last night, after the brutal form of punishment that she was given by Gerald, how we've healed faster than she expected. it is however what happened when the soul was given a dose of hope. The imagination that she could actually have a father was what kept her going right now. She needed to cut all connections with Noah before anything even began.
'' I'm not following you.'' he simply Shrugged, his phone buzzing in his pocket as his fingers doved and pulled it out. When he glanced over the screen and noticed the message from his father asking him why he was still not there for practice, he felt the fear that ran through his veins.
'' you're working in the exact same direction and walking in and you have not changed your path. I have detention and that cannot be where you're going right now.'' Lily responds by trying to look for a way to get him to stop bothering her.
'' Are you forgetting that there are other people who are badass just like you? I also have detention and unfortunately for the both of us, we might be stuck in this for the next hour and half.''
'' great, just what I wanted, more time to spend with you.'' she says in a sarcastic manner.
'' yes yes, I know you've been dying to have an opportunity with me alone in a room with you but maybe if you ask nicely, I might give it to you.'' again, he's ignorant and arrogant behavior began to surface.
'' and why would I want that ? so that I can catch syphilis or gonorrhea?'' Luna did not expect those two questions to silence the man like they had done. it is as though the mention of those who had made him freeze on the spot and disconnect from the conversation.
And for the rest of detention, Lily and Noah remained quiet. Each of them had been pissed in their own way and there was more about Noah than he was letting on.
Perhaps the both of them are not so different after all.
