Chapter 18: Chapter XVIII - Wolves’ Den 3
The group made their way through the caverns and arrived at the Beta Pair's lair. This would be their hardest challenge as they had 3 more wolves to take care of. Thankfully Marcus hit level 9 on the way and Mawu and Lisa had reached level 10.
Unfortunately they didn't get the bonus fame from the announcement rewards, as apparently someone was even higher than them, however the announcement was cause for alarm for Marcus…

Marcus had never heard of Unknown and knew of every ranker in his past. He knew ThunderHammer was supposed to get this achievement, and the one he stole, but was hoping to give it to one of the twins. Who could this Unknown person be? He wondered…

"You two should now be able to handle the wolves fairly easily… You two will have to take out all 3, I'll engage the two Betas and kite (the practice of running around and leaving the monster to chase after the user) them. Once the 3 wolves are down, Mawu, shoot one to pull aggro and we'll repeat this until they summon more minions, at which point run towards me as I'll grab the Beta and you two will kill the minions once more and then grab the Beta you didn't pull previously."
This was why Marcus needed additional people. He would run like a chicken with it's head cut off, meanwhile they would take out all the fodder. "Once they're both low, we'll do what we did with the Omegas. Got it?"
Both nodded. Could they really do this? Marcus charged in and used [Rush] to attack both of the Beta Wolves, while they summoned the pack of 3 wolves which Mawu and Lisa engaged immediately.
Marcus began running laps around the large room keeping an eye on the twins. He began talking to his chat telling them about the differences between the difficulties as he watched Mawu and Lisa finish off the three wolves, unfortunately due to them being minions that were summoned, no EXP as going to be awarded.
As they turned their attention to Marcus barely avoiding attack after attack and leading the wolves towards them Mawu launched an arrow as it hit Beta wolf who began charging after him. Lisa jumping in front of her brother to block the attack.
Marcus continued his run as he just had to wait for the next wave of minions to appear. Due to the Beta's speed he couldn't afford to do hit-and-run tactics, that would begin after the next wave.
As the Beta was being taken down under 750/1500 HP it howled and summoned the minions. This was Marcus queue as he ran up to the wolf and unleashed [Rush] and continued running, unfortunately this did not go exactly as planned as he took a giant swipe from the other Beta losing a big chunk of his HP.
This didn't deter him and he continued running but was now worried he might not be able to finish off the remaining wolf when the time came. The twins losing the aggro of the slower Beta began clearing out the trash.
Marcus was continuing his frantic dash around the arena keeping an eye on his ever dropping HP. Cursing himself he was afflicted with a bleed effect from the Beta Wolf, this wasn't good. He shouldn't have been greedy and just slashed at it and used Rush when he had more space. It only had a few more seconds but his HP was already sitting in the yellow at 160/308. He would be under 50% HP by the time the bleed wore off. He couldn't make anymore mistakes…
The twins made quick work of the minions once more as Marcus once again lead the wolves towards them. Mawu was ready for him and as soon as he turned towards them, he unleashed his arrow into the Wolf with full HP.
Marcus immediately turned around and charged after the injured wolf as the healthier one went after the twins. Marcus wasn't worried about them, he wanted to get this wolf as far down as he could before the last wave of minions spawned.
Marcus would unleash [Rush] and then block or dodge the maimed wolf and then kite it until [Rush] was back up. He would take this time to speak with his Flutter chat and was excited when he got his first donation and thanked them profusely, almost taking another attack to his back, much to the amusement of his chat. He started getting penny donations daring him to take another attack but he just simply ignored the taunting. People on the internet could be so cruel he thought.
It was then that he heard it, the final Howl, Marcus created as much distance between him and the Beta as he once more unleashed [Rush] on the wolf engaged with Lisa. Mawu had already lost aggro and was trying to unleash arrows quickly into the minions.
Marcus had knocked the Beta down into the final 100 HP, if he had Crit they would have been in trouble! Marcus continued his kiting as he was now able keep this up and unleash [Rush] against the higher HP Wolf.
As the minions were taken care of, Mawu unleashed another arrow towards the higher HP Beta as Marcus finished off the low HP wolf with a basic swing and all three converged and unleashed 4 Critical Hits as the wolf attempted to Howl one last time in vain.

Unfortunately their luck ended there as they only received 50 copper from each chest, Marcus traded the 50 copper coins to Lisa and with that they had their two silver needed to promote. No skills ranking up, no level ups, at least Marcus definitely would hit level 10 before they finished the dungeon.
