Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Reborn
Using the memory of his life as fuel, Erebus kept counting. Even without any proof to back it up, something deep in Erebus's subconscious told him that if he stopped counting, he would truly cease to exist. Erebus kept on counting for centuries without rest until eventually he had to start counting from 0 again when the numbers got too outrageous.
Erebus had been contemplating what his brother called him at the time of his death. 'Just what is the difference between a "monster" and a "hero"? If you asked the members of a small village what hero is, they would likely say that a hero would be a great hunter who could bring prosperity to their village. On the other hand, if you could ask a rabbit how it feels about said "hero", they would likely refer to the "hero" as a "monster" instead.' Erebus thought to himself.
Feeling many emotions that he had subconsciously suppressed throughout his life for the first time, Erebus started to waver in his determination to live. Just as he was about to give up, Erebus noticed a change. A sight that Erebus hadn't seen in thousands of years graced his soul. Light! So far away that it was barely noticeable, Erebus saw a speck of light that rekindled the hope and determination in his mind.
Erebus started to move towards the light with his body that he could only guess was an incarnation of his soul. For what felt like decades Erebus moved towards the light as fast as he could. Due to spending so long in the void those decades felt like they passed by in seconds and eventually the light started to grow in intensity. With the memories of his death flashing through his mind, Erebus felt himself get faster. The spirit body that was barely present before soon became bright and lifelike. Finally, After so much time that a normal person would have gone crazy, Erebus finally got close enough to recognize what was causing the light. It was… a newborn baby.
'Why is there a baby here?' Erebus thought to himself. Even with this surprise, Erebus kept moving forward until he got close enough to the baby that he could reach out and touch it. For some reason, he felt like he was being pulled towards the sleeping baby. After checking the baby for abnormalities, he saw four knife-like canine teeth slightly bigger than a normal tooth hidden in the baby's mouth. For some reason, the canine teeth were the only teeth in the baby's mouth. The baby also had two smooth, black horns coming out of it's head that looked like the horns seen on a warrior's helmet. Just as Erebus started thinking about what the new born baby was, the baby opened its eyes. The beautiful, bright red eyes were so mesmerizing it felt like they were speaking to Erebus's soul, calming him and telling him that everything is going to be okay. Suddenly, Erebus's spirit-like body was sucked into the baby's chest where Erebus was enveloped in a bright light.
Just as Erebus opened his eyes, he felt blinded by all the color around him. Erebus noticed 3 people in the small room around him. One of the people looked like they were nearing the end of their life. He had an odd robe on and what looked like a smooth stick at their side. The person holding Erebus was a beautiful woman who seemed just past her peak age. The woman looked at Erebus with a love so strong that he had trouble believing it was directed at him. To the woman's side there was a handsome man with a huge grin on his face holding the hand of the loving woman.
What surprised Erebus the most was that all three of those people had the same bright red eyes, black horns, and knife-like canine teeth as the newborn baby.
