Chapter 16: Add Powdered Moonstone

-Your POV-

Y/N was in a great mood when she left the classroom. She found Draco out in the courtyard as he was about to go back inside.

She ran over to him and linked their arms. He didn't pull back and just raised an eyebrow.

"I hope you're into adventures, Malfoy, because you'll help me solve the mystery of the cursed pocket watches!"

"Now there's more than one?"

"There are two. The one we tried to repair is in Flitwick's possession and the other is in the lost wands room. He couldn't mend it either and said that it might be due to the watches possibly being magical objects. And I want to find out what they do so that is our adventure!"

"Why are you not asking the golden trio? They always snoop around whenever they smell a secret."

The option had come to Y/N's mind of course after all the stories the Ravenclaw's had told her but her friends were busy with that secret anti Umbridge club. Plus, this was a good opportunity to get closer to Draco.

She stopped in her tracks and positioned herself in front of the blonde.

"Because I want to do it with you. Pleeeease!"

He seemed amused by her begging and pouting and after a while he nodded.

"Fine. I'll be your partner in crime."

*****

Y/N handed in her essay proudly. She knew that it must have turned out pretty good, for one because she had really tried her best but also thanks to Draco's help who had pointed out a couple of mistakes.

Professor Snape seemed a bit suspicious of her cheerful smile but didn't comment on it.

Y/N was so elated, once she sat down she felt the strong urge to kiss Draco's cheek but managed to hold back. Still, her mood transferred onto him and for a moment he was smiling to himself.

"After exploring the properties and uses of moonstone, it is time for you to put your newly acquired knowledge to use. Today you will be brewing the Drought of Peace, a very…intricate…potion. I expect…extraordinary…concentration and a perfect…result. Open your books to page 207."

Draught of Peace

"When consumed, this potion relieves stress and agitation. However…if you don't follow the instructions precisely…your potion could put someone into a long...and sometimes...irreversible sleep."

'Oh boy.'

The recipe was made of 18 steps. There was a lot of room for error.

"When brewed correctly, Draught of Peace should be turquoise blue, emitting a silver vapor."

Something about Snape saying 'turquoise' almost made Y/N chuckle. Luckily, he didn't notice.

"Working with a partner you'll have 90 minutes. Good…luck."

Y/N looked at Draco. His head was resting on his hand, he flipped through the book unenthusiastically.

She nudged her shoulder. "Come on, partner. Let's make the perfect potion only so we can show off. Everyone will be green with envy."

He seemed little convinced and sighed. "I didn't know you were this much into potions."

"It's an interesting subject." But that was merely half of the truth

Y/N remembered the Restituo Potion Hermione had told her about. She needed practice if she ever even thought about attempting to make it.

"Yeah, as interesting as waiting for a goldfish to drown. Let's get this over with."

The first few steps were simply adding powdered moonstone, stirring and waiting for the potion to take a certain color.

It worked well and Y/N thought: 'How hard can this really be?'

"So why do you care so much about these dumb pocket watches?" Draco mumbled as he let syrup of hellebore drip into the cauldron, waiting for the liquid to turn blue.

"I don't know. I heard of all these amazing adventures I've missed out on and I want to have some fun as well," she whispered.

'And I should take any sign I get to figure out what happened to me.'

"And how do you plan to procede on your 'adventure'?"

Y/N took the container of powdered porcupine quills and started shaking them.

"Our adventure."

"Right. Our adventure."

She was about to answer the question when Snape walked past them. He inspected the potion as well as the two Slytherins but didn't say anything.

Once he had moved on, Y/N leaned closer to Draco. "First we should go look for the second pocket watch in the Lost Wands room. And then we'll look for information in the library."

Draco shook his head. "Of all the cool things we could be doing, you want to read books."

"What other option do we have?"

"Ask someone who might know."

"Who?"

Snape turned around again. Y/N quickly grabbed the powdered unicorn horn.

Draco lowered his voice even more, she almost didn't understand him.

"We could ask Dumbledore. But if the watch is a dark artefact, he might confiscate it."

"You mean...dark magic?"

He nodded. "I know someone. Not sure how we'll get there yet but I'll figure it out. First let's find the watch."
