Chapter 10: Chapter 10 - Pain

Regan breathed out, his sweaty plans clenching his psiblade, as he looked at the deadly fist, stopped just an inch away from his head.

Warrior didn't move an inch as the large woman, who Regan had just seen swing a jeep like a baseball bat, tried to wrench her arm out of his grip. Realising the futility of her actions, she let her arm go limp. She stared into Warrior's eyes, resigned to whatever fate he had in store for her.

Warrior stared back, for a full seven seconds.

He let go.

"Go."

The woman nodded slightly at him, then turned and ran back to the car.

Regan blinked. He jumped to his feet snapping out of his daze. He started moving after the lady as he shouted, "What!? You can't just let her go!"

"Calm down, kid," Warrior said as he grabbed Regan by the back of the neck, holding him in place. "We've got bigger problems."

"What do you mea-"

Regan didn't get to finish, as Warrior roughly pulled him backwards. Regan heard a slight whistle, as a long and thin, black dagger flew past him. If Warrior hadn't moved him, he'd be dead.

Regan heard another whistle, but Warrior didn't budge. Instead, he moved his arm faster than Regan could see and caught a black dagger midflight.

The dagger was razor-sharp and the guard was no bigger than the blade. It was perfectly straight and came to a triangle shape point at the end.

Warrior held the blade in his fist, yet not a drop of blood was spilt. He clenched his fist and the knife snapped. He let the pieces fall to the ground.

"Come out now and perhaps we can settle this peacefully."

Regan saw the space in front of him and Warrior physically bend, before popping back into place. The difference being, a person now stood in that place.

The person was dressed head to toe in a black robe, the hood attached to the body by literal bone. Regan couldn't tell either the figure's gender or race.

"Peacefully?" the figure scoffed in a gravelly voice, "what you Pangaians have done here is blasphemy of the highest order! There can be no peace."

"Just consider this payback for all the fishermen you've kidnapped."

"Nice argument, Warrior, how about you back it up with a source," said the robed person, reaching one hand into the shadowy folds of his robes.

"The source is that I made it the fuck up!"

Warrior disappeared from his spot. Reappearing directly behind the robed person with a silver broadsword in hand. Blood dripped from the tip of his sword as the robed person's head fell to the ground.

Before Regan could even blink, a flurry of daggers flew towards Warrior. Warrior, on the other hand, didn't blink as the daggers bounced off his skin, failing to even draw blood.

"Kid," spoke Warrior, "I'll deal with these lot, you just defend yourself from any that chase you."

Regan nodded his assent, before jumping up in shock as he watched the headless corpse of the robed person reach up to Warrior, this time holding a small bone knife.

"Watch out!" Regan shouted.

Warrior didn't look back as he stomped his foot onto the headless body, caving its chest in.

"They're Necromancers, they can't do big explosions but they're very sneaky.

Don't trust anything.

Go."

Regan didn't need to hear anymore as he turned and sprinted into the forest. He had seen how those daggers had bounced off Warrior's skin.

If it had been Regan there, those daggers would have turned him into Swiss cheese.

He would just have to trust that Warrior could take care of himself.

'In the meantime, I'll try and catch one of these dagger throwing bastards. Necromancers, Warrior had called them. Should I take that literally? Are they going to raise the dead?'

As if answering his question, a rotting paw tore threw the ground in front of him, scrambling to gain traction on the ground.

Regan didn't give it the time, as he swung his psiblade downwards, severing the paw. As he continued running, he heard rustling and the sound of paws pushing against the ground.

'They're resurrecting dead wolves! This is going to be annoying there can't be that many wolves in this forest.

What should I call them? Zombie wolves? Zolves? Never mind, wolves are wolves.

Hopefully.'

One of the wolves jumped out at him, and Regan swung his psiblade, cutting the wolf in two.

He glanced backwards and saw the two wolf parts, still laying there.

'They die easily enough at least. The wolves will be most dangerous as distractions for the real necromancers.'

As if they were reading his mind, a wolf jumped out of the forest; at the same time, Regan heard the telltale whistle of a dagger.

Regan dived towards the wolf, cutting its head off as he landed underneath the wolf. He heard the dull thud of a dagger landing on the wolf and couldn't help but curl his lips as he prepared to jump up and run.

The smile that had been building on Regan's face quickly disappeared as he felt a second dagger stab into his left wrist, cutting off his hand. Regan grimaced barely holding in a scream.

He jumped to his feet and scrambled away, leaving behind his left hand. He grabbed the dagger as he got up and threw it back at his attacker.

The throw was weak, and the dagger twisted through the air, landing on its hilt no more than five metres away.

Regan was lightheaded as he looked down at the stump where his left hand was. Blood was pouring out of it, he needed to get out of there before he died of blood loss.

As Regan sprinted away he heard a sultry, feminine voice echo throughout the forest.

"Why are you running away, my love? I came all this just for you."

'What the fuck,' thought Warrior as he ran away, but he didn't bother wasting his breath replying.

It didn't matter, though. In his blood loss induced daze, he tripped on a tree root and tumbled to the ground.

"Oh dear, did you have a tumble?" said the same feminine voice.

Another robed figure appeared from the woods. Regan wouldn't have been able to tell them apart from the person earlier if they didn't speak.

"Don't worry, my love, I'm here for you.

All the others are going after that thousand-year-old pain in our ass, Warrior. But I'm much smarter.

You see, I know we don't have a chance against him, and they do too! They just want to go out as a hero fighting the evil monster Warrior! Blah, blah, blah.

I, on the other hand, would rather just have your body!

Ooh, I wonder what to do. Perhaps I'll use the wolves and turn you into an undeath werewolf thing!

Wouldn't that be fun?"

She stopped talking, clearly waiting for an answer from Regan, who shivered slightly, but chose to stay silent.

"No answer? That's fine I need to kill you now anyway.

Oh, and I don't care about your last words either."

The robed figure took a black dagger out of her robes and started skipping toward Regan.

When she was just two metres away from him, Regan took a deep breath and jumped up, swinging the psiblade towards her neck.

With lightning-quick reflexes, she pulled a second dagger out of her robes, and through it into Regan's thigh. Simultaneously, she moved to block his swing with the first dagger.

Regan gritted his teeth and continued his swing, looking at the girl who stood there unmoving, clearly confident in her ability to block the swing.

The psiblade cut through the dagger, and then the girl's neck, her head falling to the ground.

'Fucking idiot,' thought Regan as he looked down at where his hand once was.

He barely held back his tears.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

F in the chat for Regan's hand.

Ten chapters in now and I think it's going quite good. I've had a decent increase in views and collections the past few days, I've now got 55 collections.

I don't how much that is compared to other Web novels. But it's a hell of a lot more than my last attempt at making a Webnovel and that had daily uploads, so I figure I must be doing something right.

Sorry for not uploading, the easter holidays are coming up so I'll be able to post more.

Thanks for reading!
