Chapter 4: Blood...Reset?

I lied. I thought I did. It's only because I counted the points. I didn't make it at all. They told me it was a mistake. That was the second letter that came in. They said I could join a different hero course. I knew the exact reason. They believed I would be an even greater danger to society if I joined one of the greatest hero courses in the world.

They're smart. If they knew i was a villain I'd be caught. Not too smart. I'd only be a burden to them if I got in. Though...now if I enter a regular or different hero course...I'd be worse help. If I don't I can just make myself even more useful. I'd have more freedom to presume missions and orders. But...If I stay home I'll only make my moms life harder.

Himiko kicked her feet back and forth on my bed as I packed my bags.

"You're really gonna leave your poor mother here all alone, Dai?," she asked.

"I don't have much of a choice," I told her. "If I stay...I'll only be trouble. But...If I leave she'd have one less mouth to feed. If I leave she can get a smaller apartment with less bills. Maybe even go on a date. If I leave I'd make her life so much easier. So easy she won't have to live it."

Himiko frowned. "I wish I had met you sooner. Your mom's lucky-."

No.

"To have such a-."

Please don't say it.

"Thoughtful son like you."

Why?

"Maybe," I mumbled.

I swung my bad over my shoulder and grabbed Himiko's hand. I took my final step outside of my apartment door. I left the keys in there.

Goodbye, mom. I'm sorry. Please don't hate me. I'm a disappointment.

I'm Sorry. Forgive me.

[A While Later...]

Tomura slid a box over to me the minute I put my bags down on the bar floor.

"I figured, now that you'd be full time, you'd need better fashion. Consider this your re-costume. Do whatever you want to it," he told me.

I bent down. The first thing I layed my eyes on was a gas mask that would cover my mouth and nose.

"What's your name?," Tomura questioned.

I thought. I wanted something that will leave people with the thought of blood on their hands.

"Blood Phoenix," I said. "That'll be my name to the public."

Dabi motioned to me. "Well then let's go, Nakamura. You too, Toga. We're going somewhere."

[Thirty minutes later...]

The rest of my costume was A black long sleeveless compression shirt with a turtle neck, a pair of thick black trousers with combat boots, and these black flexible gloves that seemed a bit weighted. There was also a cloak. On the back of that cloak I spray painted an X in red.

Dabi took us to an abandoned building downtown.

"What are we doing in a place like this?," I questioned.

"Don't you want to send your father a message?," Dabi questioned. "This is one of his bases. Anyone can guess this."

Well crap, I didn't.

"You're probably on the missing list already," Dabi mentioned. "Make sure that hair sticks?"

I figured out I can use my power to change cells in simple parts of my body. An example is my hair. That also means I can repair my own injuries faster than the normal human rate. I decided to go with white specks. And my eyes...they're red.

The next morning I decided to go out and get coffee. I was ordering when someone called my name.

"Daiki?"

I didn't have a mask or anything on so the only thing I could count on to hide my identity was my new hair and eyes. I turned around to see who called my name. I was staring in the brown eyes of Akihiko.

"Ak-," I stopped myself from saying his name. "Ah, who's Daiki? My name's Hirito Miyaga."

"Sorry...it's just that-you look a lot like a good friend of mine?," Akihiko explained.

I gritted my teeth, but then put on a fake smile. "Surely if he's a good friend of yours you wouldn't forget what he looks like."

"You're right...it's just I-I haven't seen him in a while, I've forgotten what he looks like. You two sound so similar and almost look alike."

My heart sank in my chest. I looked outside the window.

"You know, it's pouring outside right now," I mentioned. "Wanna-er-sit down an talk about it?"

Akihiko looked at me and his eyebrow furrowed. "S-Sure."

We sat down at an empty booth. Akihiko crossed his hands.

" I did something I feel bad about about doing almost a year ago," Akihiko's voice cracked. " He told me that he l-liked me. He liked me in a more than friends way. He told me that he wanted to enter U.A.. I yelled at him to stop talking. I told him that we shouldn't be friends anymore. I practically told him he was a lost cause." Tears started to form from his eyes. "I swear I didn't mean any of it. I just-didn't know how to take the news he had given me. " Those sweet brown eyes. "I didn't know if I shouldn't or should like him back. Yet I still don't know. He's been ignoring my text. When we walked paths in school he didn't take a single look at me after that. And...an accident happened the night before he told me about his quirk. I'm scared...he might have something to do with it. If he did it's my f-fault he can't have the help he needed."

I stared at him for a long time. Why did the empty hole he left in my heart for so long suddenly come alive?

"Akihiko." I didn't care if he knew it was me. Me hand reached out to his.

"Wha-." Akihiko paused.

Suddenly pain struck the back of my head. I let out a short yelp. At that moment I noticed there was nothing I could do. The roof of the shop came tumbling down, collapsing on top of everyone in there.

I remember a piece of thick heavy wood hitting my head causing me to pass out for a short amount of time. When I opened my eyes I saw long legs in front of me. A man with black hair and...red eyes bent down in front of me.

"It's a shame," the man said. "I'd have to see my son in this scrawny form."

Ryu. My heart began to race. He grabbed my chin, but I yanked myself away and started crawling backwards.

"You've finally gotten yourself into something, aside from becoming a failure like your mother," he chuckled. "Christ, I could kill you on the spot if I felt like it...I don't need any distractions getting in the way of reset." His left fist began to glow a bloody red. "Nice small talk kid. Even though you said nothing."

He raised it. My eyes widened in fear as I saw Akihiko rise up from behind. His forehead was bleeding. He used his quirk to create a shield. He was ready to hit Ryu with it but he was way too slow. Ryu quickly turned around and swatted him away into a pile of wood that was still alight.

"NO!," I yelled.

All of a sudden. I heard a deep loud voice.

"Don't fear citizens-"

I ran towards Akihiko.

"Everything is alright."

No.

"Why?"

Almost there!

"Because I-"

I felt a powerful punch to the side of my ribcage before I could reach him. My head twisted to the side. It was...Allmight. He stopped me from reaching Akihiko.

"AM HERE!"

When I was thrown to the side a portal opened up. I collapsed onto the bar floor.

"Daiki!," Himiko yelled.

"What the-," Dabi stared at me.

I gasped. When I did my chest ached like hell. I've broken something. I gritted my teeth. My breath started getting heavier as anger surged through me. I banged my fist on the floor leaving the floor boards spread apart.

"I'm gonna kill Allmight," I growled.
