Chapter 11: Chapter 11. Saying Goodbye to The Past.

Somewhere near upstate New York...

A man from a pest control company drove to Edgar's farm to exterminate pests. He stopped the car, brought out his equipment, walked into the barn, and casually kicked open aboard. There were a lot of cockroaches under it.

"Well, well, well. Moving right in, are we?" The exterminator looked relaxed. He had seen a lot of pests like these and took care of them with ease.

"Stop!" Edgar's body, controlled by the giant insect alien, stared at the exterminator. "Just what exactly do you think you're doing here?"

"I'm taking care of your pest problem? You got a hell of an infestation here; don't you want to get rid of them?" The exterminator joked and, at the same time, opened the valve of the watering can, ready to spray the cockroaches to death.

"Pest problem?! You know I've noticed an infestation here, everywhere I look, in fact. Nothing but undeveloped, unevolved, barely conscious pond scum, totally convinced of their own superiority as they scurry about their short, pointless lives. Do they deserve to die just because you don't like them?" Edgar approached the exterminator, step by step.

The exterminator looked stunned. 'Is this person nuts? Does anyone like cockroaches? I'm from a pest control company. How can I get paid if I don't kill these pests? Besides, didn't he call yesterday and make an appointment to exterminate insects today?'

"So, according to what you said, I should get rid of them." Edgar crackled his teeth.

Just as the exterminator was about to agree and feel relieved, the nozzle of the spray-can was pushed into his mouth, and the insecticide was quickly poured into his body.

Bang! The exterminator fell to the ground.

Edgar looked at the pest control van outside. His spaceship was not suitable for Earth, so now he needed to use something else as transport to find the thing he needed.

Not just Earth; he wanted to take over the entire galaxy and let everyone know how powerful they were!

...

"Damn... Why should this be deducted from my salary?" Jay looked stunned. 'Shouldn't the money I owe on my credit card be erased? Didn't he say that all connections would be severed?'

"We're protecting Earth. This is not some sort of witness protection program. M.I.B will provide you with all the supplies you need and the pay you deserve. But you should pay off your debts yourself." K coldly looked at Jay with an eyebrow raised. This wasn't the first time he had seen a new agent do this. 'Did they really think the M.I.B would cover up the fuckups of their normal lives?'

Jay looked at Noah with a bitter face, "Noah, are you covering half of last night's spending?"

Yesterday Noah seemed like someone who hadn't eaten for days. He ate a lot of food and drank a lot of alcohol. He overdrew all his credit cards to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars and had no idea what M.I.B's monthly salary was.

Noah smiled, "We both are stuck in this anyway, let's just say, lesson learnt. And don't worry, I'll pay it back with you."

"My man..." Jay patted his back and seemingly calmed down.

"Alright, you two, come with me." K suddenly had another idea in his heart. Maybe he could let these two partner up in the future and retire early.

On the computer screen, all the social data of the two men were being erased, from their birth records to all their files. Everything was erased, and no one could find any traces of them anymore.

"Hey, can I keep my tapes?" Jay watched as someone on-screen was destroying some paper materials, including the items from their house.

Those tapes were classic movies that were hard to find. He would watch them on sleepless nights.

Seeing that K looked at him coldly, Jay stepped back with open arms, "All right, fine, incinerate them."

"If you get kicked out, then we'll buy you new ones." Z behind him added, "Maybe you'll see some new movies."

"Nah, I won't leave. But, you'll allow me to buy some new things to bring to ... wherever I'm gonna stay, right?"

While Jay was chattering away, Noah had finished recording his fingerprints, iris and blood. With all the data, everything connected to them was erased.

"The two lockers over there are yours, with your full set of equipment."

Noah looked at two rows of lockers; both labelled with letters. His codename was N.

Noah didn't shy away from it. He began to undress in front of everyone, changing to a white shirt, black suit, black tie, black socks, and black shoes. Then he placed the pair of dark sunglasses in his chest pocket.

"I kind of know why the organisation code name is MIB, but why only one set?" While changing clothes, Jay began to ask questions again.

"It's made out of special materials. It can resist ordinary firearms while being extremely elastic and convenient for movement. Besides, it won't stain, so it doesn't need changing. If it's damaged, the organisation will provide you with a new one."

"But you'd better not damage it. The last person who damaged the suit did so because an alien punched a hole in his chest."

Jay: "..."

"Congratulations on officially becoming a trainee agent of the M.I.B. Noah, you are now known as N, and Edwards, your name is J."

[Ding!]

[Successfully joined the M.I.B. Upgraded to LV3. Reward: Attribute Points: 4. Treasure Chest: 1.]

(A/note: Henceforth, Jay will be J. Noah will be Noah/N, depending on the circumstances.)

Becoming a trainee agent was considered as completing the task. Noah felt relieved because he didn't have to get Jay kicked out of the training. After all, he was still a friend.

"In ten minutes, come to the training facility and begin your basic training. If you can't handle it, you can always withdraw at any time, and your memories of this period of time will be erased."

J shrugged. How could he fall behind an old guy like K?

"I'm going to the bathroom. I'll see you at the training facility in a few minutes."

When we got to the bathroom, Noah called up the character attributes and opened the treasure chest.

[Gain skill: Combat LV3.]

'Combat? What kind of skill is that?! The Men in Black are all using guns. I need some gun proficiency…' 'And LV3? How high is that?'

He felt like right now was his bad luck, and he opened the reward at a bad time. He shouldn't have opened it while in the bathroom. He should have showered and cleaned up first. Maybe with some cleansing, his reward would have been some kind of superpower or something...

As for the attribute points, he didn't add points instantly. He pondered where to add points before adding them one by one.

Outside the training facility, Zed looked at K, "Are you sure you want to recruit that... N? He has no record of using firearms, but his marksmanship is still good, and his physical fitness is far beyond normal people. His records didn't say that he was that much physically active before.

Also, You're not sympathising with N because his parents died because of an alien, are you? We can't put emotions into our job, K."

K looked through the one-way mirror, watching the two people practice marksmanship in the Indoor firing range, "He has the mindset and seems steady. He's a good balance for J. He reminds me of D. Just as good."

"I'm getting older and getting rusty. D's retirement made me realise that maybe it's time for me to retire, too. You also said that he's far more physically capable than the average person, but he's an earthling, isn't he?"

Zed looked at the range and then at K, "So you want them to be partners in the future? Are you going to bring them in with the intention of retiring?"

"Yeah. I'm getting old too."

Catching up with a Cephalapoid by himself was something he couldn't do anymore. These two young men had done it. These two had no absolute prejudice against aliens and would treat them like any other people of the earth, as long as they obeyed the law.

It was time for him to return to society and live among ordinary people. It wasn't that he was tired of the job, but his strength almost couldn't catch up anymore. It was time for him to say goodbye.

'Hmm? Something doesn't seem right in the training range...'
