Chapter 4: Rawlin of the River

"Huh? How?" The knight had a blank expression on his face. He looked like he had no idea what to say at that point.

"Well, how did I know that you ask? Well, didn't you just oust yourself right now?" I shrugged as I spoke.

The knight took a deep breath. "Okay, let's take it slowly. One at a time. Wait, screw it. Weren't you supposed to be a mentally ill person? No offense, but you were typecasted to be the idiot princess of the story. How come you can have a coherent conversation with me? Also, for real… How?" He asked.

"Hmm, did you think you were the only reincarnator here?" I gave out a smug smile as I busted out the big reveal.

"Holy hell! Are you for real?" He asked, before giving out a huge sigh. "This is awesome! Do you know how sad it is when you are the only one living outside this storyline bubble while the others are fully committed to it? Wait a minute. Doesn't that mean that you know the entire story of 'The Charming Prince', right? So, what are you gonna do about the predicament that you are in?" He asked.

"What predicament?" I asked back.

Honestly speaking, I do faintly remember reading a novel named that. However, it was a long time ago. How am I supposed to remember every single novel that I read?

"Umm, you do know the story, right?" He asked, looking slightly nervous at that point.

"Not really. I believe that I read this novel a very long time ago. I don't think I can remember a single thing from it. So, what was the predicament that you were speaking of again?" I asked.

"Wait! Did I say predicament? I made a mistake. I meant… possibility! Yeah, that's what I meant!" The knight gave out a laugh, but you would know that it was fake laughter once you hear that.

"If you try fooling me one more time, I'll make sure to beat the heck out of you. I'm not even kidding, you know? Although I might look weak, I have a sick jab in my arsenal." I replied.

"Ok, fine! I'll tell you! God, you are a handful!" The man sighed.

"Great! So, is this like the predicament where the heroine has to fight evil and end up with the hero?" I asked.

"Umm, what gave you the idea that you are the main character?" He gave out a weird look as he asked that question.

"What do you mean? I'm not the female lead? I mean, look at me! I'm a ten out of ten! And you're telling me that I'm not the main character? Fine, I'm the second female lead then, aren't I?" I asked again.

"Not really. Also, look around you. Even the most minor character is at least an eight out of ten." The man gave out a shrug as he replied.

"Except Loretta, that is," I spoke.

"True that." The man nodded his head.

"So, what am I? I need answers." I was quite frustrated by the indecisiveness that the man was showing.

"Umm… You see… you are what people might call a fodder character." He replied.

"Oh no! The kind of sacrificial pawn required for the main leads to having a motive and stuff?" I asked.

"Precisely." He nodded his head in agreement.

"Oh, God! The least I expected was me being the second lead at least. I did not expect to get relegated to such a useless character! This is so unfair!" I cried.

"Such is life." He spoke as if he said something really smart.

"Screw you. Anyhow, is this marriage the beginning of the end?" I asked.

"Kinda, yes. You are getting married to Baron Lothair. He's an old fart and a sexual abuser. So, you could guess what happened." He shrugged.

"That damned author. They wrote off my character like that, huh? I guess that led to the main characters getting revenge on the Baron, right?" I sighed.

"Yup."

"I don't get it! I'm a princess! Why am I getting married to a Baron?" I was quite confused about all of this.

"Well, there are two reasons for that. The first one would be that no one would marry you due to your mental issues. And the second one would be the Baron's influence. Although he's just a Baron, Lothair made quite a name for himself in business. He's one of the richest businessmen in the Griffin Kingdom. And the imperial family is wishing to capitalize on that." He replied.

"By selling off their daughter. Nice." I gave off a dry laugh. I couldn't help it. These guys are absolute pieces of trash if you ask me.

"Yea… It's weird, but they thought that it would work. Although that led to your death." He spoke.

"Tell me, did any of these people shed a single tear for my death?" I asked.

"Just one. He's the male lead. The prince. He was the one on the frontlines fighting for you. So, at least you got one in the family supporting you." He smiled.

"I guess… but it doesn't matter now, does it. I have to make sure that I survive now. That's the main issue that I have to deal with." I sighed. I've been cranking my brain to find a solution, but it isn't easy to do.

"I see. That makes sense." He nodded his head.

"Yea, by the way, what's both of our names?" I asked.

"Huh… I can understand why you asked mine, but you don't know yours as well?" He asked.

"I've only been here for a few hours. And it's not like I can ask my name around, right? That would be stupid of me." I replied.

"Ah, I guess… My name is Rawlin. And you are Princess Alexandra." He replied.

"Princess Alexandra of the Griffin Kingdom, huh? It's got a good ring to it, I guess… Anyhow, I got a plan to ruin this wedding. Wanna hear me out?" I asked with a smile on my face.
