Chapter 75: Magic Eyes and Exams

Over the course of the week before the exams, I study what the deal is with my eyes and finally realize what the weird haze reminds me of! It's like how when I used to 'turn on' my magic sight thing! The one that I turned off because Hogwarts is so full of magic that I was not only blinded, but it also got a massive headache! It's been so long that I completely forgot about it!

And with that long forgotten clue, I quickly realize what the weird haze is. It's magic! Or at least what wizards and witches use to make magic.

It turns out that my old 'activated' magic sight actually showed me 'structured' magic, while my new eyes show me 'raw' magic! What I see when it goes into people is them absorbing magic for them to use! After observing enough people, I've come to the conclusion that nobody has realized that we don't use internal magic, but instead act like sponges for magic!

Or… Hmm. More along the lines of people are like a bucket and magic is like water. There's only so much magic we can 'hold' (read use), and the extra just overflows-

Ooh! No buckets, we're more like fountains! We can hold a certain amount of magic that our bodies absorb, and the overflow just gets recycled like it was never absorbed in the first place!

When I told this to my friends though, they just looked at me like I was crazy (which I will neither confirm, nor deny) and walked away. They might have thought that it was some kind of joke, but whatever. I told them, if they complain later about how I've figured out how to become a super powerful witch, it's on them for not listening the first time.

Now I just have to try and figure out how to expand my 'capacity' so I can use more magic and become a super powerful witch…

I can't think of anything to try, and eventually give up. I'll try to figure it out in a couple of years or something. I'm only eleven, so I have time. And on a related note to gaining power, I think I've finally figured out my boom boom spell!

Unfortunately everyone has forbidden me from trying it out of fear that the school as a whole will explode or something. Really, I'm not that reckless…

But anyways, now we have exams, and I'm ready! For everything except History of Magic! And maybe Potions! But anything where I have to do magic to pass I'm guaranteed to get top marks! Natural magic casting for the win!

On a side note, it seems like my 'natural magic' is actually made up half from what my body utilizes, and half from ambient magic. Do I know what that means? No. Am I likely to figure it out any time soon? Also no.

Anyways, I manage to get through the week without any real problems except for remembering all those bloody dates for History of Magic. I don't remember how I did for Potions, but I do remember that we needed to make a Forgetfulness potion, so I guess I did good…? Or I did bad since I remember the kind of potion we were making. Honestly I think it can go either way.

On the bright side, all my classes where I actually needed to use magic were super easy! To me! The halls were filled with almost everyone else complaining, but I even managed to earn back most of the points I'd lost from the whole dragon heist!

What? Using 'natural' magic is cheating? Feel free to tell me all about it inside this totally safe and not suspicious at all chest! The smoke? Oh, that's just one of my… friends, cooking some meat! I'm sure they'd love to eat- meet you, so go on ahead of me while I grab, er, condiments!

Anyways, while most people are complaining about the exams, I know of two others who were disappointed in them.

"Really, I needn't have learned about the 1637 Werewolf Code of Conduct, or the uprising of Elfric the Eager." Hermione laments, to which Clarity rebuts her.

"That might be the case now, but when they eventually do appear on an exam, we now know the details and will be able to focus on topics we aren't currently aware of."

She always gets so studious whenever she's around Hermione. It makes me glad that Susan isn't so uptight and helps her to relax. Of course, then they look at me as if asking for my own input on the subjects.

To which I snort. "Did they really think anyone would show up to the signing for the Werewolf Code? For all the werewolves knew, it could have been a trap to kill them, given how poorly they were viewed. For all we know too."

At their questioning looks, I explain. "If it actually was a trap, then nobody would know since there was no one to  trap. So they could have just said 'we offered peace but nobody showed up' without anybody to contradict them."

Though they roll their eyes, they still nod in agreement. History is written by the victors. Or so I've read. But it's easy to understand at least, unlike some of what I hear the older students saying.

But anyways, the year is close to ending, and without any kind of ridiculous amount of point giving, it's safe to say that Slytherin is going to win the House Cup. Apparently we've been holding it for more than a few years, and rumors are that it's a record!

As for the weird stuff revolving around the Philosopher's Stone, things have been pretty quiet. No more troll attacks, no more suspicious things occurring, and no more Harry running all over the place crying about how Snape is evil and wants to steal it. It's been refreshing.

Obviously I'm not going to trust it to stay like that though. If there's one thing that's been clearly shown over the course of our first year, it's that Harry can't leave well enough alone. Which is why Arianna has been pouting ever since my trip to the forest followed by a stay in the hospital wing.

I decided that it's time for her to get out of bed and do something productive. Like follow around my brother and tell me when he finally decides to do something stupid like attack Snape over the Stone.

So overall, I'm not surprised when she runs out of breath into the common room where I'm having an epic battle of wizard's chess against Draco. As my queen bonks his rook on the head with her scepter, a preferable alternative for all involved when they typically smash each other into pieces, she manages to regain her breath enough to speak.

"Your brother and his friends are planning to steal the Philosopher's Stone!"

I'm so surprised that I nearly fall out of my chair, drawing the attention of Tracy, who's bandaging her wounds from taking care of the dragon.

I blink at her blankly for a moment, my mind trying to process how exactly the three of them, 'because I have no doubt that it's the three of them', got to the conclusion that they should steal an object of immense worth and power.

"...Wot?"
