Chapter 4: Shard of mellow (2)
Grandmaster Mellow was a mage who had revolutionalised the world with his inventions. When the world newly experienced mana , it was him who was at the forefront of studying it.
Also it was him who found out how to use mana as an energy source .
Mellow had given many new inventions to the world that revolved around mana and as such got the title of "grandmaster"
He was also the first person who broke through to SS rank.
At his deathbed he used one of his SS rank spell and converted all his mana into a consumable item. He then hid it somewhere which was not known to anyone, not even his family.
Initially people did try to find it. Afterall who in their right mind would not want such an item ? But none could find it.
With time people forgot about this.
The truth was Mellow after making the orb had divided it into 4 shards and hid it at 4 different places on the continent.
'4 places…..sigh. As of now I can only get this one. But at this point of time this is enough' Will thought to himself.
Then he immediately put the shard in his mouth.
The shard melted in his mouth and its energy started circulating in his body. After 10-15 seconds it subsided.

The status window was something that each person in the world had.
As soon as one became 18 years of age , he got the ablity to view his status.
The mission window on the other hand was something that only Will had.
"hmmm….. If I had a choice I wouldn't have consumed this item…" Will said loudly.
Now any person may have smacked him out of rage if they heard this, afterall while being rank G , Will had gotten A level mana.
But truth to be told the item was truthfully really balanced.
For starters, having Rank A mana didn't mean Will could learn Rank A spells, since learning spells needed 2 conditions to be satisfied -
1) His mana to be of that level. Eg learning Rank A spell needed Level A-/A/A+ mana ( which Will did have)
2) His rank should also be of that level. Eg learning Rank A spell needed his rank too be Rank A( which Will didn't have)
Currently Will had Rank G, hence he could only learn Rank G spells.
Raising rank needed a person to raise minimum any 2 of his attributes. So if a person had G+ speed and strength, his rank would be G+. Similarly a person having G+ strength and mana would also be of Rank G+.
To make it clear If a person had following stats-
strength – G
speed – G
Mana- A
vitality – A
Then the world would classify him as Rank A. Thus , one needed to raise 2 of your attributes to increase his rank.
This didn't mean one couldn't raise all of his stats.
But usually people focused on just 2.
The reason ? Time and resources.
Raising all 4 of the stats would require a lot of time and resources and in this world where your rank decided your future, people were more inclined to focus on just 2 stats.
Further it didn't even make sense to raise all your stats.
Why ?
Well suppose there are two warriors. One has strength G+, speed G+, Mana G+ and Vitality G+ and the other has Strength F, speed F, Mana G- and Vitality G-. If both fight, who do you think would win ?
It is the second person who has more probability of winning and the reason – Spells.
Since the second person is of rank F , he has the options to learn Rank F warrior spells which would be much more stronger that Rank G spells that the first person is limited to.
Now It is also true that the person's weapon proficiency etc will also matter but The highest level spell he knows just drastically increases his chance of winning.
Hence people focused only on 2 stats, as then they could quickly rank up and learn stronger spells, thus getting a better chance of surviving in this dog eat dog world.
