Chapter 2: Awake

"Buxing is here!" Jia yelled from below.

Mei looked around her old room, still in disbelief that she was brought back in time. Mei may not have understood what happened, but she did know that she was given a second chance and she wasn't going to waste it. Not after she knew what her future would be like if she continued her relationship with Buxing.

Mei ran down the stairs only to come face to face with Buxing holding a bouquet of roses and wearing a charming smile. Fear and disgust washed over Mei as she remembered Buxing's cold smile and cruel laugh when he boasted that he had poisoned her and her younger sister.

At what point did Buxing become evil? Mei had to wonder, or was he evil all along?

"I'm sorry Buxing, I'm not feeling well today. I can't go out with you tonight." Mei lied.

Mei would have thought that she imagined the flash of irritation that passed through Buxing's eyes if she was her younger self, but she knew the truth now.

"No problem" Buxing smiled "I'll look after you while you're sick." he said.

"I wouldn't want to bother you, in fact you may catch my virus." Mei said, panicking internally.

"Nonsense, what are boyfriends for?" Buxing insisted, grabbing her arm and leading her towards the bedroom to lay her down.

"Stay put while I make you soup." He commanded.

Jia entered Mei's room "Unnie, aren't you going out on a date?" she asked.

"I'm...I'm not feeling well so Buxing decided that he was going to take care of me" Mei explained, trying to hide her tears as the emotions welled up inside of her whilst looking at her younger sister who had been deceased for 5 years.

"Are you okay? Why are you crying?" Jia worried her lip.

"Nothing... My system is messed up and making me more emotional that's all" Mei hurriedly replied.

"Oh is it...that time of the month?" Jia inquired.

"You could say that." Mei laughed.

"Here is the soup that I made for you." Buxing announced once he entered the room again, laying the bowl of soup beside Mei.

"Thank you" Mei shivered, not wanting to touch anything that he made, especially because he was known for poisoning people.

"Well? Aren't you going to eat it?" Buxing crossed his arms.

"Maybe later, I'm not hungry." Mei explained.

Jia looked between the both of them, wondering why there was a tension growing.

"I'll make sure that she eats it later. For now I think it's best if you leave Buxing, we wouldn't want you getting sick" Jia said.

Buxing gritted his teeth "I guess this is goodbye for now Mei." He plastered on a fake smile and left the room.

Once Mei was sure that Buxing was out of her apartment she went to throw the bowl of soup away.

"Unnie! What are you doing?" Jia exclaimed when she caught Mei pouring the bowl of soup down the drain. "I really wasn't hungry" Mei said sheepishly, her mind flashing back to when she was poisoned by Buxing.

"Unnie...what do you know?" Jia asked, suddenly sounding very serious.

"What do you mean?" Mei deflected.

"How old are you." Jia said "Tell me."

"What? Jia...what are you...?"

"Miss, what date is it today? And how old are you?" a voice asked, Mei opened her eyes and her vision was blurred by a bright light. She blinked a few times and once her vision cleared she saw a doctor in front of her. "Miss, how old are you?" The doctor repeated.

"Twenty....twenty five" Mei croaked, her voice sounding like it hadn't been used in months.

"Patient number 27 has woken up, call the number!" The doctor yelled out to a nearby nurse.

"Where am I? What's happening? Where's my sister?" Mei asked.

"You're in the hospital, you've been in a coma for 2 months, you were found unconscious in an office and your sister...has been deceased for 5 years." The doctor explained gently.

"I'm back?" Mei cried.

"Miss, everything is going to be alright please just stay calm..."

"Jia! JIA!" Mei yelled, growing frantic. "Somebody restrain her, she's hyperventilating!" The doctor ordered, soon Mei succumbed to the darkness once again.
