Chapter 26: The cat is out of the bag

Klaus collided with Liv when he rushed out.

"Oh Klaus. You are coming from Kara's right?" She asked, pulling away from him. She could feel him shivering.

He nodded and rubbed the nape of his neck, trying to calm himself.

"Are you all right?" She placed her hand on his arm, he looked distressed. "Is something wrong with Kara?"

"Yes... No... I don't know." He sighed and leaned on the wall. "She felt different. Physically she looks like Kara but I just keep getting this feeling that something changed."

He turned red.

"I did say rude things about her mother. For that, I take full blame but still... I know there is something wrong." He admitted.

Liv frowned. She'd felt the change also.

"Why don't I check on her?" She suggested and turned to go.

Klaus grabbed her arm and shook his head.

"Bad idea, she's freaking pissed. I felt bloodlust from her." He released her arm and stepped back. "Trust me on this Liv."

She nodded. He looked shaken and worried, his hair tousled.

"Let's go to my father, he probably knows something. Dimitri isn't on school grounds." She suggested and gestured for him to follow her.

He nodded, one arm on the other. They walked in silence.

Destiny walked into Hartridge's office just before the kids. He was talking in an hushed tone with Frederick and kept quiet when they came in.

"Principal Hartridge." "Dad."

Destiny took the seat beside Frederick, totally ignoring him.

"Hello to you too my dear Destiny." He drawled and leaned back in his chair.

Liv looked at them with wary and spoke to her dad telepathically.

"Can we talk alone? It is about Kara."

"Speak here. They should hear it too."

She nodded and kept her gaze on her father. "Klaus felt bloodlust from Kara."

All their heads whipped in her direction, then Klaus. Frederick stood up and approached him with narrowed eyes.

"That is a strong accusation child. Explain it to me." His growl was low.

Klaus straightened his back and stared at his father's beta with confidence. First thing the man had taught him growing up was never to show weakness, even if the opponent was stronger. "One wrong word or move and you die. I felt the hair on my skin erect. She told me to never return to her room if I wanted to remain alive."

Frederick turned to Hartridge, a silent understanding passed between them.

"What else did you notice Klaus?" Hartridge asked with a soothing tone.

Klaus closed his eyes and tried to remember what had been bugging him about her. "Her hair."

"What about it?"

He opened his eyes. "It was black with grey edges in front. The colours were darkening right before my eyes."

Destiny sighed. "Hera."

They all turned to her. Frederick folded his arms and stared accusingly at her.

"Something you wish to expatiate on." He said, his tone changing.

Destiny stood up and placed her hands in her hip. "Don't you dare use that tone with me."

He laughed mockingly. "All I did was ask a question. You sound defensive Destiny."

She scoffed. "Sure. Just a question. Of course it's not that you are ready to prove that I'm a bad person any chance you get."

"Don't you think it is all in your head... or is there a sliver of truth in that sentence?" He asked sardonically.

Her balled fists on her hips shook. "You good for nothing overgrown dog, what do you know about a person being good or bad? Even if it was written on their forehead, you will still be blind to the truth. So who are you to judge?"

"Enough! Both of you." Hartridge bellowed, then rubbed his temple with a sigh. "I implore you both to remember students are in your presence."

They both finally recalled where they were and sat quietly. Klaus almost grinned knowingly, Miss Destiny was the second person he had seen to be able to ruffle Frederick.

"What do you know about Hera?" The Principal asked her.

She explained it all to them, right from her first encounter with Kara... And Hera.

"That was the night of the howls. We were so busy we forgot Kara was a wolf also." Liv muttered thoughtfully. "Maybe the person I saw in her head was Hera."

They gave her puzzled looks. She shoved uncomfortably.

"I was helping her build her mind walls against nosey people so I got in her head to do a bit of a test run. " She pursed her lips. "There was someone else there. Kara but not Kara like Klaus said, only she had a protective stance now that I think about it."

Hartrudge nodded. "I'm sure she won't want anything to happen to the body she is in currently."

"Currently?" Destiny echoed.

He sighed and stood up. "I am sworn to loyalty, I can not reveal that which I know just yet. You'll have to forgive me."

Liv knew that look, her father wasn't going to budge.

"We'll all keep an eye on her... without provoking her." Frederick said, eyeing Destiny. "We have her best bud on our side after all."

Destiny leaned towards him. "If I didn't know better Freddie, I would have said you had a huge crush on me with these lame 'picking on.'"

He stood up and grinned at her. "Glad that for once, you actually know better."

Destiny sat fuming a minute later, he always made sure he had the last word. When it was just her and Hartridge, the older man questioned her.

"Why did you keep this from me?" He asked her, his tone sounding ancient.

He was way older than he presented himself to be. He'd had his Liv some time too late in his life.

Destiny stared at him with her distrustful human eyes, unrelentingly matching his intense stare.

"Can I trust you Hartridge? Can she?" She replied with a question of her own.

He sighed and leaned in his chair.

"That is up to both you and her. Do you think you can trust her?"

She scoffed. "I trust no one from this realms of yours."

"Some day you'll have to, you'll have no choice. And I believe the first person you'll trust is the wolf." He chuckled.

She knew who he meant.

"I'll trust him as far as I can throw him and that would very much not be worth a inch considering that animal strength of his."

Hartridge laughed again before going serious. They all had a role to play in the events about to unfold.

"Of us all, you've met her. What do you think of her?" He asked quietly, his voice giving off a little echo in the quiet room filled with books and artifacts.

Destiny's eyes drifted off for a bit as she tried to think and analyse.

"I think when push comes to shove and we back her up against the wall, Hera will come out with claws. We'll have to pray to the fates that Kara will be our saviour."

He hummed and nodded, drifting into his own thoughts. He had no choice but to agree with Reginald.

Kara deserved to be trained to use her powers.
