Chapter 2: A New Beginning

Kai was heart-struck but showed no emotion.

Mari was holding back her tears and grinned in emotional pain as her linen belt continued to flow through the hot wind of the desert. There they found themselves in a rough situation.

"You're saying we have to do this task and after all of it we can finally be together again?" said Mari.

"I know. We've been through a lot already, but we can't ignore the dangerous aura that pushed us away with so much might." Said Kai.

"It's my fault isn't it? I wanted to go on an adventure like we used to and now we have to fight each other in the name of a god." Said Mari.

"No, please don't think that. The both of us need to be strong in this situation." Said Kai.

The two were both holding back the urge to run up to each other and depart with a single kiss and the situation they were in only allowed for them to express their deep love through so few words.

"I love you." The both said.

"I will do everything I can. So please take care of yourself and keep yourself alive." Said Mari.

She didn't know what else to say. She felt the dark energy that the ancient book put around the both of them and the dark tasks that was given to each one of them. She only hoped that the man she loved would not change as much as to be another person when they finally get the chance to be connected again. These feelings were the meaning in her last words to her lover Kai.

"Trial after trial. My love, I will endure it. Anything I do I will do for the sake of us." Said Kai.

He saw the dark aura but didn't classify it as dark energy the way that Mari did. Instead he was able to take a closer look at what was and was not going on with the magic that presented itself.

It was emerging from the core of their body, it was not sucking up their life force but rather it was becoming one with each other. This is what prompted Kai.

Kai knew that the woman he knew might not come back the same person he once fell in love with but deep in his heart he had to decide wether that mattered or not.

"Whoever she became, wether it be an undead servant or my beloved wife that I know, I will love her without a shred of indignity." He thought.

The ancient book that was floating in the air only a moment ago interrupted the two lovers by slamming the two covers together and flying towards Mari.

"It's time to go. It's becoming more hard to be in the same area as you my love." Said Mari.

"Goodbye. I will write you soon. No matter where you go I will find you." Said Kai.

In the desert the two split apart and dragged the small grains of sand between each step. The harsh wind brushed through Mari's hair and the wind knocked the hat off of Kai.

This was their moment to say goodbye, as if the goddess of death was watching and being very merciful to allow them a few words.

This was also the last time Mari saw Kai as the same person she once knew.

The young lady walked through the sands and soon discovered a city. The city was white and hollow. There was evidence that this place has not seen a single soul in a very long time.

"That's strange there was no record of any civilization or cities in the area when we looked over every map of the desert. It's supposed to be completely empty with a few ruined temples." Thought Mari.

The temple was half sunken and waiting for Mari to discover it once again. The smell of the white marbled building hidden in the desert was rancid. The moisture from the atmosphere dropped along the walls and scattered any resemblance of beauty the building had.

"This is disgusting." Said Mari.

She stepped into an unknown building that seemed to have been interesting but was severely regretting the situation now.

The book then shined in her hands and the building interior was brought to life.

The original white marble that was drenched in the desert sweat glowed with a distinct dark red lining that pointed further down a dark hallway that was being lit up.

"I must have brought the ticket to the show." Said Mari.

She continued her decent in the darkness of the hallway that was being lit up by the red lining in the walls. As she creeped slowly following it there was less and less of a tremor in her footing. The smell that was rancid of rotten dried copper that was running around in the entrance was now mellowing out into a cold vanilla treat.

"This is becoming lovely. I've got to thank the engineers of this. I haven't felt such an ease in such a long time." Said Mari.

She quickly recalled a memory of meeting Kai and wished to live in a new memory with her lover by her side.

It was only recently that they were tasked to separate but her heart was aching and felt a large hole in his absence.

"If this is death and I am now walking my way into my prison of hell than I'd wish to have had more memories with him." She thought.

The mellow breeze and nectar sweet smell of vanilla was embracing Mari like a blanket for the trauma she was experiencing.

"How long is this hallway?" She said out loud.

The red lining of the marble walls were now blackened from the lack of sunlight. She travelled far from where she once was and was only traveling further towards an unknown direction where she didn't know what might happen. All she knew was that the book dropped her off nearby and glimmered as she entered a marble structure that was dug into the sands.

"It's getting darker is it not?" She asked the book.

She hoped to receive some sort of answer but there was only the slight breeze and gentle smell she experienced earlier.
