Chapter 31: Secret Crush
"Where did you go with Calix?" She asked, poking her cheeks as if she was checking something.
Monette had been circling her like she was a strange display that she had been staring at as if she could not believe what she was seeing. The staring she could take but what really annoys her was the poking.
"Could you stop it!" She swatted her hand and continued typing on her laptop. It was a good thing that she thought of carrying her laptop in her backpack when Calixto asked them for a ride. She could start her research if only Monette would stop whatever the hell she was doing.
"You can't make me stop. You went crazy when we were in that place. Even Calix was confused about what happened to you."
Iris heaved an irritated sigh and closed her laptop and faced Monette. "Why are you calling Calixto Calix? Did he change his name and I wasn't informed? And who are you calling crazy?" She tilted her head towards Monette, taunting her for a fight.
"You!" She plopped herself on the armchair and widened her eyes on Iris. She didn't really like the changes in her attitude since Calixto came into their lives. Iris has always been detached and appeared to be disinterested in everything. She would sometimes pick on her for no reason just to get some kind of reaction from her since they were kids but she would just give her a disappointed look that always made her blood boil.
But nowadays, Iris apart from being indifferent was becoming cocky as well and it irritated the hell out of her.
"You were gone." She rolled her finger on her ear, indicating her being a wacko. "You became like a different person. Like, possessed or something, yet, you're like lethargic but not like the same way Calix did to my parents…" She looked at the ceiling, trying to find the words on how to explain what she had observed from Iris. "It was just so strange and creepy," she exhaled, shaking her head, giving up on how to tell her how she was in her episode.
"But what really got me scared was the fact that even Calix didn't seem to know what had happened to you. He was confused as fvck!"
Iris was ready to fight with Monette but her curiosity won over her annoyance towards the other girl. She knew that she wasn't lying because even Calixto asked her when it was the two of them who returned to the vacant lot near the Stocker Corporation. He had asked her as if he was making sure that it was her who he was talking to.
"I was possessed?" She asked in a hushed tone. She had seen some videos online about a possessed person and it gave her goosebumps to think that it had happened to her.
"Did you take a video of me while I was possessed?" She asked with open curiosity.
"Are you insane? Do you think I'll be able to do that with Calix watching you like a hawk?" She clicked her tongue, scoffing with disdain. "I would love to take a video of you but then there wasn't really anything new with your expression," she shrugged her shoulder nonchalantly.
"If Calixto didn't worry about you, I won't notice that you were being possessed because you just look like your usual self. Staring at nothing."
Iris's shoulders slumped in disappointment. When Monette kept on talking about being possessed, she thought she did those things that she saw in videos online. She had no idea why she found them quite interesting.
"So, where did you go with Calix?"
"Why did you keep on calling him Calix?" She asked back instead of answering her question.
"Because Calixto sounded so old!" She rolled her eyes as she scoffed.
Iris rolled her eyes back at her but just inwardly. She didn't really want to be childish like Monette but sometimes she got under her nerves that she could not help herself.
The name Calixto doesn't sound old to her, it even kind of has a powerful ring to it, very manly. But of course, she won't tell Monette that because if she does, she won't stop pestering her.
She was well aware that Monette has a crush on Calixto and she could not blame her. At first, Calixto was hideous with his taut skin, sunken eyes, and elongated nails. However, as days passed by, his looks started to change and Monette saw him as a handsome young man.
Calixto is tall, a bit lanky if she would say so. But his build may be a bit on the thin side but he has prominent muscles. She had an opportunity to know because every time he would feed, he would let him sit on his knees.
She didn't dare tell Monette about it or anyone at all because she found it a bit concerning and embarrassing. She tried to stop Calixto but it was the only thing that he had ever insisted on her, thus, in the end, she relented and let him.
His sunken eyes and elongated nails that resembled hawk claws were long gone. His eyes now have this softness because of the long lashes that curtained his green eyes. His taunt skin was now supple like a child's skin, clear and smooth.
Iris sometimes thought that his skin was too smooth for a man. They were blemish-free and always glowing as if he was using expensive skin care products which she knew for a fact wasn't the case because one time, she had the courage to peek into his room which wasn't really a room but just a hole behind the wall under the basement stairs and she saw he had nothing inside his sleeping area. It was just a crevice on the wall and an ordinary bed was the only furniture in it.
The place was creepy and she was scared that Calixto would catch her snooping around, hence, she left as fast as she entered.
And now, with the current looks of Calixto, she would shamelessly admit to herself that just like Monette, she was crushing on him too. But that's just going to be her secret.
