Rinko was currently marching along with many other soldiers who were assigned to patrol the area for any signs of the enemy. For the last few months, the Qin forces had slowly taken small villages and towns at the border of Wei territory. Rinko has been constantly improving his strength, due to his low status he's not able to get access to advanced training and is forced to follow along with the basic training regiment taught to the troops. Despite this, he practiced hard and focused on increasing his speed and strength. He could now swing his heavy sword for a few hours a day now, they were basic strikes but he could put a lot of strength behind them now.
At night he couldn't help thinking about his family, he wasn't worried about his wife cheating on him, at the beginning of their relationship she was a shy thing, but slowly she became accustomed to the life of being the wife of an underworld boss in the capital. He enjoyed the nights with his wife, but over time he slowly corrupted his innocent wife and got her to do more and more naughty things in the bedroom she became more and more obsessed with him (somehow) and wouldn't allow him to work around the women he employed anymore. Eventually, she would go as far as threatening him! claiming that if he ever cheated on her! that she would murder him, and then herself! Judging by the deranged look on her face, Rinko knew she wasn't lying, and secretly vowed never to cheat on his Yandere wife, thankfully she was hot enough that he didn't mind only having one woman.
A few days later Rinko received a message from his wife, it seems an uncle on her mother's side, was a low-ranking government official who was currently caught up in a bit of scandal, he needed to make a few men disappear soon or he might lose his position. His wife was eager to help her family and quickly agreed to help, they would soon deal with the men and she was just updating him on the situation.
Rinko would see how it worked out, in the future, he might be able to use his wife's connection. He thought about instructing his wife to make sure the men who carried out the order were gotten rid of or have them leave the capital, they couldn't risk someone tracing this back to them, but upon thinking about what would happen in the future he decided instead to tell his wife to start gaining control of Kokuhi Village! that town of murders and thieves was a lawless place and would play an important part at the beginning of the story. He also encouraged his wife to influence her uncle to support Sei's faction. Thanks to his wife, he now had a way to involve himself with the politics around the capital, her uncle was low ranking but it was a start.

The section of Qin's border that Rinko was currently stationed at was relatively peaceful lately, there were only small clashes between small groups of soldiers that barely numbered a few hundred on each side. That was until a few days ago, Wei had launched a small invasion to take back one of their lost cities, with a small force of 1,000.
Qin had quickly sent 1,300 troops to intercept them, unfortunately for Rinko, he was among those who were sent. With a bit of luck, the Qin forces had managed to ambush the Wei troops as they crossed a river, only half the Wei force had managed to cross before Qin charged into them. The Wei troops were quickly routed and only around 500 managed to flee with 1,100 Qin troops in pursuit.
For three days the Qin forces persuade the enemy, eventually, they managed to corner the fleeing Wei troops in a small basin surrounded by cliffs. The Wei troops quickly sent over a messenger informing them that they wished to surrender, the Qin commanders were quick to accept and were in a joyful mood.
Soon the Qin force was marching once again to meet the Wei troops and accept their surrender. Rinko watched as the Qin commanders eagerly rode out to meet the Wei leaders. As both sides' commanders talked Rinko observed the two forces, he wasn't worried seeing how they outnumbered Wei troops two to one.
Suddenly! he noticed movement on the cliff! then saw how the Wei commanders suddenly fled back to their own lines!
Taken by surprise! all the Qin commanders were covered in a volley of arrows!
Rinko watched as the Wei troops started charging toward them! their side seemed to be stunned and none of the Qin troops moved. Rinko then heard a noise behind them and turned to look. He was shocked to see another force of 300 Wei troops charging in behind them! still, none of the Qin troops moved!
Rinko started observing the army and noticed that none of the commanders were present! had they all died in the ambush! looking around he couldn't even find a 100-man commander!
Deciding to act! he quickly started shouting out orders to the troops, sadly the bulk of the men didn't follow his commands, luckily he managed to get around 100 troops to listen to him and he ordered them to face the enemy charging in behind them.
The charging Wei troops had finally reached them and viciously charged into their line! and had already breached halfway through it. Rinko observing all this, still knew that they outnumbered the Wei troops who were attacking the center and front of the formation. If both wings advanced they would be able to flank the enemy on both sides. Sadly both wings of the army were in a state of chaos and neither moved nor followed his commands.
To make matters worse, around 300 troops on the right flank seeing the enemy troops attacking the center and behind them had their morale shaken and actually fled the battlefield! abandoning the army!
Rinko started noticing that the left wing of the army was still standing around and a few were even starting to run! running over he managed to stop the bulk of them from fleeing and instead got them to join the battle. Sadly he had bloody his sword on a few cowardly soldiers to do this.
At this time the Wei forces in the rear broke through and the center of the formation got attacked in the rear! the battlefield soon became a huge chaotic mess! the battle was about equal, if the fleeing troops returned they would win for sure, but Rinko knew that they wouldn't, they were now safely away, so why would they return?
He tried to rally the men but the battlefield was too chaotic for anyone to hear his commands, with no other choice he fought side by side with a few randomly put-together Go's (5-man squad), the training the army had been put through recently now started to show, as groups of Go's all over the battlefield started slowly turning the battle in their favor, eventually the enemy was beaten back and fled. They had somehow survived.
The victory was short-lived however as enemy arrows started raining down upon them! Rinko knew they had to flee and started ordering the couple hundred survivors to retreat. A few days later they managed to reach one of their supply bases, that was where they ran into the 300 soldiers that fled the battlefield. The 300 cowards were stunned to see the less than 150 survivors march into the camp, every one of them was covered in blood and wounded. Rinko was no exception with less than half of the Go's he was fighting alongside having survived.
It wasn't until a few days later that the supply base was reinforced by a 1,000-man commander with his men. Having learned of what happened at the battle and after many of the survivors vouched for him, Rinko was directly promoted to a 300-man commander and was in charge of the 300 troops who fled the battlefield.
The 300 cowards now had to deal with his wrath! for the next few weeks as he put them through hellish training! and conditioned them to blindly follow his commands! anywho refused or were slow in responding were severely punished. He slowly conditioned them to instinctually follow his commands instantly after experiencing the punishment of not doing so over and over.
Eventually, the small border war was over! and his 300 were allowed to return home until they were needed again.
(Qin Capital)
Having returned home as a new 300-man commander he was relieved to have survived and pleased with his promotion. He was now in charge of 300 men and was already thinking about how best to use them when the plot of the manga started.
After walking through his front door he was greeted by a charging wife! who flung herself at him, relieved that he had survived.

It has been a busy year so far for Rinko, he managed to gain control over the various gangs and bandits in Kokuhi village, those who opposed him had been killed, and if they were too powerful to kill he got them addicted to his drugs and women. Slowly but surely he had built up his faction in the village until finally, his side was the majority, he then forced a confrontation with any who opposed him and eventually gained complete control of that lawless place.
He took Ka Ryo Ten under his wing and looked after the young mountain tribe girl, and she was now considered the Little boss of Kokuhi village. Rinko planned on making the village into a gambling town, after stealing the idea from Los Vegas from his past life. He now had a large number of bandits and thieves under him and sent them out to raid all over the country, he would need a lot of money to build his version of Los Vegas.
Of course, he knew the village would be destroyed, but with the tunnels underneath it he was sure he could get the bulk of the people out safely, they would just have to rebuild afterward. He already had a rundown gambling hall and brothel, for now, that would have to do, and he wouldn't plan on investing more into the village until after the plot started.
In the capital thanks to his wife's connections he managed to secure himself and his men a comfy position as city guards who would occasionally patrol the city for criminals. Crime somehow seemed to decrease a lot since he had been employed and now many officials had a good opinion of him, thinking he was getting rid of any troublemakers, Little did they know he was actually using his position to recruit these criminals or forcing them to join him.
He was currently patrolling the back streets of the city, he was glad things have quieted down since Sei was crowned King. The city had celebrated and various criminals hadn't missed the opportunity and crime had slowly risen, keeping him and his men busy with their constant patrols, chasing down thieves, and dealing with complaints. Of course, he had made sure to recruit all these people or he made sure they would disappear never to be seen again if they didn't submit.
He was glad he wasn't on the Wei front anymore, there were already rumors of Ren Pa having fled to Wei, and he knew that soon Wei would become an entirely new dangerous beast with that General there. It wasn't long before rumors started circulating that Qin was starting to suffer casualties on the border.
He also knew that it was also this year that Kyou Kai would leave her village and vow to get revenge for the death of her sister. He hoped to come in contact with her in the future and hopefully get her to join him, or at least see if he can get her to share some of her knowledge with him. Who wouldn't want a skilled ninja on their side?
Ka Ryo Ten (or Ten) at this point now had a lot of confidence in herself and was doing such a good job commanding the bandits that Rinko had to ask her to ease off raiding too many merchants traveling around the country, Qin was now aware of the problem and soon if they kept this up, Qin would be forced to deal with them. Ten now having built herself a small fortune didn't mind and visited him in the capital to spend her new wealth. Perhaps she was spending too much time with his wife because now he would occasionally spot the two stalkings him as he walked around on his patrols, his wife was clearly a bad influence on the young girl.
