Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Royal Capital

(AN : Under a decent recommendation by a reader to turn Library magic into Akashic magic, I have decided that the name suits the type of magic more than Library magic.

Also, Akashic Records of the bastard instructor are such a shit anime, don't even @ me.)

Zakai slowly breathed in, before walking away from the scene.

The day was not over yet.

The journey to the capital was around 5 months, and the exam was around 15 days when most people arrived in the capital.

The earlier he gets there, the better, as he needed to do something in the capital to raise his power to secure him a spot on the checklist of a magic knight.

For now, he needed to go get his savings and get his personal belongings, then he would start the pilgrimage to the capital, where he WILL get selected for the magic knights.

Unfortunately for him, however, the cabin had burned down, and since he only had a small pouch of gold Zakai sighed once again.

"Guess I will be sleeping on the streets in the capital, it seems." Zakai jested.

His personal belonging was merely a bow, a cloak and a pouch of gold.

It was a shame, with how much burned in the fire with the cabin.

Zakai put the bow around his shoulder, alongside his quiver, and started slowly walking north to the Capital.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5 months later.

He had finally arrived.

The travel here was treacherous, but nothing excited happened.

All the magic beasts were already hunted to give the rookies a chance not to die before they even arrived in the capital, meaning that their lights would be extinguished early.

That meant he walked, slept, eat and walked.

Over. Over. Over. Over.

He had around 17 days till the magic knight examination happened, so Zakai curiously walked around the streets of the capital.

People shot disdainful looks at his outfit, which had been riddled with holes, but since Zakai found a river, he luckily didn't stink.

Right now, he was at the status of a beggar.

The capital was grand, with building much bigger than he could ever dream of, as he came from a small village with a limited imagination of the riches of the capital.

Looking up from a park, Zakai could see a massive wall that separated the common realm from the noble realm.

The word "Realm" described the efforts one needed to take before coming a noble, as it was almost as hard as crossing into another world. Not to mention that being a noble has a lot of problems, such as getting suppressed by higher nobles and political battles that could make or break a noble family.

After walking an hour or so and getting instructions from a kind old lady, Zakai walked to a vendor that sold masks.

Zakai's eyes drifted from mask to mask, before ending up on one of the clown masks.

"I'll buy it." Zakai muttered to the man, that snorted.

"You sure you have the money for it?"

Zakai pulled a silver coin out, before placing it on the table and walking away.

1 copper = 10 yul

1 silver = 100 yul

1 gold = 1000 yul.

His years acting as a hunter were certainly not bad paying, as he racked up quite a collection of gold coins, but lost most of it in the fire.

right now he had only around 5 gold coins, which was around half of what he had before.

Putting the mask on, Zakai walked into a building with a logo of two swords crossed over a cup of ale.

"Welcome to the Hunter's Guild." The woman at the counter bowed politely, as it seemed like she wasn't scared that the man in front of her was wearing a..... strange mask to say the least.

Looking around, most of the people here were covering their faces with plenty of different masks of all sorts, some only covering a part of the face while sipping down on some ale.

"I would like to sign up with the Hunters Guild." Zakai gave a slight bow before the women sighed.

"You came from down the south, didn't you?"

Zakai didn't detect any tone of irony in her voice, so Zakai nodded.

"Yeah.... you are the 56th person today to sign up to the Hunter's Guild." She muttered, handing him a contract while speaking. "Most of them sign up here before they go to the Magic Knight's Exam, and that's where we get most of our long-lasting customers. Some of them, however, are not so long-lasting."

"Contract magic?" Zakai looked towards the woman, who shook her head.

"It's nothing special." She handed him a pen. "It will make you permanently memorize the contents of the contract, alongside the rules and the climbing system of the guild."

"Thank you." Zakai nodded his head, before writing down a fake name on the paper.

The paper crumbled, but he could feel the effects of the contract bear weight on his soul.

The contract suddenly burned, leaving nothing more than a few ashes on the table, which the woman swept with a dustpan and brush.

"May we get you anything to drink?"

"An ale please, and some bread."

Zakai walked down to one of the tables, before not long after getting served his bread and his cheap Ale, of which he took a swig.

Since he was 15, he was a legal adult now. He could go to brothels, drink alcohol, buy tobacco pipes, everything alongside that.

The rules of the Guild were simple.

Do not kill innocents, only the people on the bounty boards, and don't abuse members below your rank.

The ranks of the guild was corresponding to the Archaic Clover Language, which from lowest to highest, was F, E, D, C, B, A then S.

His Ashakic magic was pretty much reliant on killing people, and Zakai had no quarrels about killing people.

In his eyes, criminals are just stepping stones for him to get stronger, and he doesn't mind killing them, no matter who they are.

And that's why, after finishing his food, he slowly walked to the bounty board, where criminals were shown that he could legally kill, and make their magic his own.

Much like the ranks, the missions were separated by the alphabet, scaling with difficulty with the rank.

He was currently rank F, meaning he could only kill the members of society that were weak and lone wolves, but he could eventually grow his rank, and with it, the criminals inside of it.

Stronger magic made him smile whenever he thinks about himself using it.

But the guild didn't only deal with missions with this country, so whenever he goes to another country he could easily kill a few criminals here.

For now.....

It was time to see his prey.
