Chapter 20: Chapter 19: Here comes the money

——-————-—————— ——-————-—————— ——-————-

[With Vesemir]

Vesemir walked down the corridor towards the room where Radmir was.

Overall, Vesemir didn't like the man. He was prideful and arrogant, but at the same time, he was a total coward.

During the Falka rebellion, when Mirthe burned to the ground and most of the sorcerers tried to stand a fight, defend their land and their houses, he flees. Being one of the highest ranks in the Brotherhood, one of the most powerful and most ancient wizards, he behaved like a coward, scared for his pitiful life

Without knocking on the door, he entered a room where Ramir was.

This immediately made him freak out since none of the sorcerers liked to be interrupted in the middle of anything they do "Who dares to interrupt me during research?"

He lifted his head and spotted Vesemir. For some reason, one emotion showed up on his face. He was scared, his irritation swapped to moderation. Restlessly, he welcomed him. "Oh, how many years had passed! It is good to see you, old friend"

Vesemir snorted, showing slight dissatisfaction as his hands itched and demanded a sword, to cut this man's head off. "I can't say the same words seeing you"

Radmir scratched the back of his head and pouted, referring, " Oh, come on, our last meeting wasn't that bad, right?"

That earned him a frown on Vesemir's face "Are you sure we are talking about the same event? I clearly remember when King of Kovir, Gerard Troyden asked me to assist you in killing Alp."

Radmir face started to sweat, he was clearly feeling unwell. He awkwardly laughed. "Hahaha, this is a memory of the past. We don't need to stick to poor memories, right?"

Vesemir snorted continuing " You running like a little coward on the sight of Alp, while I had to deal with it all by myself. You owe me"

Radmir relaxed a bit, hearing about the request. At least he didn't have to fight this old monster. One of the interesting traits that Radmir has is how much he values his life. Despite him being a powerful sorcerer, he never liked to take a risk of being killed in any kind of situation.

Radmir regained some confidence and inquired, "Whatever you, my friend, request, I shall proceed and grant to you. So how shall serve can I today? With magic, my or either brain?"

Vesemir wanted to vomit with his blood, witnessing the change of behaviour of this rotten man. It also annoyed Vesemir. With frustration in his voice, he replied, "I don't need your pathos. I need money, 2000 Oren shall do"

A smile on his face faded, 2000 Oren was no negligible sum. Of course, during his long life, he was able to make a lot of jobs serving as an advisor or man for hire. But even with that, it will make a dent in his saving.

He was about to argue and try to find another way around this, but before he could even say a single word, he met stern eyes from Vesemir that accepted no negotiation.

With a heavy sigh, he reached his hands to the small chest that was stationed in the room's corner. He opened it, revealing a chest full of coins and nothing else. With a heavy heart, he gave money to Vesemir after all there is nothing more valuable than his life.

…..

Vesemir walked back to the big room where Tissaia was. When he entered inside, he saw something he didn't really expect.

August lying on the floor, with no motions whatsoever, while Tissaia kneeling beside him and Vilgefortz standing on the side with an innocent look and honest eyes.

Without saying a word, he walked to August and sensed his breath and heartbeat, seeing nothing that could endanger his life, but really fast heart bit, he inspected the room.

Before his gaze directed at the Tissaia "What happened?"

Tissaia cast a spell "Droga, z której się nie wraca" that is used to help against wounds, she knew little about what happened to August, so it was the only way she could help.

She ignored Vesemir's question and walked to the mirror. The first thing she did is correct her hair and dress to look accurate.

Only after that, did she turn toward Vesemir explaining, "I don't know, you better ask this man" her hand pointed toward Vilgefortz. She didn't feel like staying there any longer, any kind of things that broke the balance and made a mess discomfited her by a huge margin.

Vesemir directed his soul-piercing sight towards Vilgefortz, which didn't move him one bit. He inquired, "What have you done?"

However, to his dissatisfaction, the same honest smile and sincere eyes were looking at him. Vilgefortz claimed no responsibility for the events "I don't think this is a right question to ask me, old wolf"

Vesemir replied, "You think you know more than me, child?"

This, however, didn't have any effect on the man, that only smiled, showing his teeth. "I claim no such statement, but what you really have to ask yourself, where the talents of this young man lie"

Vesemir showed suspicion towards the man, asking, "What do you refer to?"

Inside his head, Vesemir understood what he said, his questions were just a way to prove his point. The fact that Vilgefortz was able to figure something out about August. This was clear as a sky.

But to the disappointment of Vilgefortz, Vesemir held no desire to agree with an affirmation that Vilgefortz wanted to speak about.

Vilgefortz played his role, showing extreme disappointment in the man in front of him saying "You Witchers mistake stars reflected in a pond for the night sky. This young man will feel better along with his kin, along with people like me"

That earned him a snort from Vesemir's side. "Even if you would, with all your eloquence try to convince this young man to be one of you, you will hit an iron wall"

This made Vilgefortz frown, and he spoke his own monologue out loud " With such a noble goal, as to comprehend nature and its gentle threads, to show us the genuine power that comes along. And you claim that a mage that can and has the ability to do so, will reject such a chance?"

Voice came from below that made Velgefortz flinch "I don't need such a goal in my life, to hide behind the facade that holds nothing, but a rotten nature"

One thing that August could understand with a recent vision he received and prove his own point that he made beforehand. Mages held no noble goal. They were the ones to break the world and its order into what it had become.

They were no less guilty than those elves that resulted in the conjunction of spheres since their only goal in life is the satisfaction of their own curiosity and power desires.
