Chapter 39: Chapter 38:Magic (1/2)

August woke up hearing someone close to him. Opening his eyes, he saw a child lying next to him while clinging to his body like his parent. He had no clue how the child could snick upon him during his sleep, while also remaining unnoticed.

-August woke him up "Albert, time to wake up," said August, shaking a kid slightly with his hand.

-Albert woke and yawned, and looked around. Spotting August next to him, with a still sleepy mind, he inquired, "You are not my mother, where is she?"

-August sighed and replied "I'm not your mother Albert, I'm August"

-"Oh" a surprised yelp escaped Albert's mouth.

—"Sorry, But I was in the city last I remember" his face was portraying slight confusion, it seemed like he forgot about the recent events.

Before August could explain, Albert's eyes widened as he remembered things he had done. Almost instantly, he stood up from the bed and fell to his knees, apologizing,

-"I'm really sorry! I could not handle myself. I caused so much trouble for you!" With a face full of horror, said Albert.

-He continued with a submissive voice" I will do whatever you want, I will take all the blame if needed, just please don't kill me!"

Just looking at the boy, you could tell he was terrified of the things he had done. All of that happened because his emotions got out of control, making him do the thing that the child himself didn't really understand. At the same time, the reason behind this could completely justify him.

-With a slight snort, August slowly replied, looking down on the kid, "Don't fill your brain with useless information. What is done is done. There is no point in spilling tears right now."

-Taking a slight pause, August looked at the kid with slight annoyance and added in a strict voice," But I strongly advise you not to do anything without coming up to me first. Deal?"

-Without lifting his head that was pinned to the ground, Albert replied blabbering in a hurry"Thank you! I shall do as you said".

-August released a long sigh, saying in a commanding voice, "Kid, stand up! I will give you one piece of advice, never kneel to others, or they will take advantage of you".

-Immediately he stood up, saluting like a soldier and loudly replied, "Yes!"

Before they could continue, Vilgefortz entered inside with slow, graceful steps. He made his way towards a kid and August. Without them noticing, he released a small chuckle, seeing another lever on August in the future in Albert's face.

When he came closer, his eyes suddenly widened. He could not believe what he saw or rather said felt. He came closer to Albert and placed his arm on the head of a kid.

-Without realizing it, he blabbered in shock. "How?"

Both August and Albert looked at Vilgefortz with a confused expression, not understanding this kind of behaviour

-August inquired in a slow suspicious voice, "What, how?"

-Vilgefortz being in a shocking state didn't even notice and replied like a machine "The kid, he wasn't a source when I healed him, yet he turned to be one"

Just then he noticed what he did. He said something that never should have escaped his mouth since it will only bring more trouble.

-For a second his emotions went out of control and he said something that he didn't want to say, trying to correct himself, he said "There is nothing to worry about, I think I just overlooked it in the first place"

For August, this was a chance to see the actual intentions of Vilgefortz, getting him out of his comfort zone.

-August looked towards Albert and said with a silly grin on his face, "Looks like you are making your entry into my lessons on magic. You are not against it, right, Vilgefortz?"

-Cursing inside his head, Vilgefortz replied with a forced smile, "Of course, it would be a pleasure of teaching you both"

Vilgefortz was about to leave, feeling that he had already done things he was not planning to say. It was rare for him to get out of control, but when his plans didn't go how he wants them, it could be quite frustrating.

Turning around and making his way towards the door, he was about to release a relaxing sigh, leaving this man August with the kid alone, when he suddenly heard.

-"Professor Vilgefortz, when our study starts?" August inquired with interest in his voice.

August felt that Vilgefortz was annoyed by the situation that he faced and called him out when he was about to leave.

Vilgefortz turned around and looked into August's eyes that expressed nothing, proving that all the things that August does are just a play and nothing else. But at the same time, Vilgefortz wanted to tell him a small lesson.

But, he knew that August need to trust him more and the spell that he put upon them will help as well. This will cause what he eventually wants: get information out of him.

- He answered with excitement, showing that he was happy to hear such a question "Of course today, right after breakfast!"

He tried to walk away now but was called out once more.

- August's face darkened and expressed sadness, inquiring, "But how? I have such bad injuries. I thought you are going to take care of this?"

Felt extremely annoyed about being treated like this, trying to be played by some youngster that didn't even live a quarter of the time that Vilgefortz did.

He made his way back towards August at a fast pace and put a hand on his chest, casting a healing spell with a bit of fire to teach August a lesson.

-August released a small yelp, feeling something boiling on his chest, and inquired in a slightly angry tone, "Teacher! You want to burn me?"

Vilgefortz showed no remorse for what he did and just gave a slight explanation that wasn't actually true.

-"It is just a side effect of the healing spell. Since your injury is quite severe, sometimes there is a feeling of you being on fire, there is nothing to worry about. I can assure you on that." Said Vilgefortz in a friendly tone and small smile.

Saying nothing more, Vilgefortz made his way out of the room.

August removed all emotions he displayed and thought, 'This proves my point. He has a zero intention of teaching me anything useful to myself, he wants something from me. I need to stretch the time I learn from him, directing him towards hollow clues.'

While Vilgefortz thought to himself with a sadistic grin forming on his face, 'Once you run out of uses, I will make you my experimental dummy. You will struggle, while I will have my share bit of fun. After all, your powers and efforts are useless against talent, such as mine. '

….

August's training on magic started, he read a lot of books that were provided in the temple and those that were provided by Vilgefortz, odd thing was that he brought a lot of books that mentioned divination powers and books that mentioned Elder blood at some points

Like this, a lot of time started to pass, and in the process of actively studying, time flew by very quickly. Months after months that turned into years.

How Vilgefortz slowly directed August into a particular field only further convinced August about his idea that Vilgefortz was the one who needed to be stopped. But with lessons and demonstrations of Vilgefortz that he showed August how to wield magic, how to control it, how to see it, he was further convinced that this man is strong, strong beyond what he could imagine and handle at the moment.

August tried to research all kinds of magic that he could learn, but one can never master all the branches of magic. Everyone has their limits and natural talent. Vilgefortz was a master of fire magic, a master of runes and constructs that could be created from magic.

While August never could summon even the slight bit of elemental magic, no matter how much he tried, there was another area that was his natural habitat. His talent exceeded in one particular area, and it was divination.

There was a trait that all magicians from his line have. They always exceed in science, rather than the magic of elements. Despite having the most powerful ability to see the future and past, they were lacking in other areas, which are combat-related.

But at the same time, Elven Oracles were the ones responsible for creating a gene called Elder Blood. This, however, mostly relied on their magical science field where they succeed and were best. However, to create something as great as Elder Blood took them hundreds of years and all of their combined efforts. Just to be lost in the end.

With time, he was able to use Telepathy to communicate with others. That achievement brought a lot of joy to Vilgefortz since August was moving in the right direction on his path.

The area of divination that August got talent in is oneiromancy and pyromancy. One allows reading the future and past of the person, but no matter how much August tried to read the past and future of Vilgefortz, it never worked.

This ability worked only when a person shares with you his actual stories and memories. The only option for one to avoid this is to tell something that is not actually true and has no connection to your personality.

Albert was doing a lot of progress as well. August took him as his student. During August's limited knowledge of the education process of kids, he took an example from Vesemir, who trained them every day until they could barely walk.

To speed up the process, August fed him various herbs that allowed the kid to gain more muscles and training done in less time. Even so, there were limiting factors. Albert was a kid and not a Witcher, so August was forced to limit the number of herbs he gave the kid and reduce the amount of training as well.

As time flew by and Albert grew, becoming older, getting stronger and more proficient with a sword. Their relationship also improved. They were no longer just a kid and a man. No, they were more like brothers.

It took 5 years of time, but eventually, Albert started to refer to August as a father, which made August feel really uncomfortable.

August, disliked being called dad, so instead, he offered Albert another option. August suggested to be brothers, August already thought of all other witchers that went through the same hell as he did as his brothers, while this kid that he trained himself, helped to educate and saw him grow from a small child into someone more significant. He portrayed himself as a big brother for a small Albert.

Without complaints, Albert agreed and happily called August' big brother' from this point onwards. This happened when Albert turned 12 and August was reaching the age of 24.

On the other side of the training that Vilgefortz 'gladly' accepted, Albert learned magic. He found his talent in things such as space magic, which allowed one to teleport, and the magic of the water element.

Once when Albert and August were training together, Albert initiated a talk that was dear to him, and this talk made August realize one thing he forgot, one thing that someone made him forget.

So I edited this chapter a bit, I hope this sounds better.

Soooo, how does it feel? I changed my writing style a bit, I think it looks and sounds better. There are much more emotions and expressions in the character than before.

But I also want to hear your opinion. Please share it, so I can see if this actually makes it more pleasant to read.

If you enjoyed reading, please consider sharing your through and donating some power stones to hungry August or he will be forced to knock on your door to take them by force.

Have a great time of the day.
