Chapter 85: Chapter 83: Ritual

Regis stood back and looked at the couple lying dead on the doorstep of their house. Showing a smile that didn't look happy, he said aloud in a quiet voice, "For every sin, then committed, there is a pay for you at the end of your life road."

He turned towards August and walked beside him, giving him a hand to stand up.

With a small yelp, August stood feeling pain circulating around his body.

"We killed it", stated August, looking at two corpses.

"Do you think we did the right thing?" inquired Regis, looking for Witcher's opinion.

August stayed silent for a second, thinking about the words he wanted to say.

He hummed, replying, "There is nothing right or wrong in the things we had done. All we need to do is keep on going without burdening your own head with things that won't matter anymore."

"So that's how you think," Regis said, looking at the couple. He exhaled his lungs full of air and helped August inside the house, laying him there on the bed to recover from the injuries he received during the battle. "Relax; meanwhile, I will take care of some things."

Regis said that words and left without saying anything else. August laid there, and before long, his eyes went heavy as his body was exhausted and injured, so it asked for rest to recover.

Without even noticing it, he fell asleep.

Regis went out of the house and did his own thing.

August woke up after three days of sleeping. Feeling much better than before, he walked outside the house, searching for his companion. He was surprised by the bodies of the monster and the girl disappearing.

August heard a faint sound coming from somewhere near and walked towards them.

When he was close enough, he saw a freshly built graveyard. In the middle of it stood Regis, looking at many stones that had no names written on them.

August walked to Regis asking "Why did you do this?"

"Oh, morning," said Regis, looking quite surprised. "You slept for a while".

He looked around and answered August's question, "I think everyone deserves something or somewhat place that their remains could be associated with."

August got slightly confused by Regis's words, "Still, why? You didn't know any of them. Is it worth using your time on them?"

Regis smiled weakly, replying, "Time is something I have plenty of, despite that every single soul deserves to be remembered by at least someone."

August expressed his point of view. "But why Mula as well? He was responsible for a lot of deaths. Did he deserve that kind of treatment with his actions?"

"Both of us are harbingers of death, and it is just a life process of life and death. He was loyal until his last breath. That earns him at least something," said Regis explaining his view before asking, "Where to now?"

August replied, "I need to finish some things before making a decision on where to go next."

"Mind if I join your travels" inquired Regis.

"I need to meet with someone in the Cheery forest, and later we can talk", replied August, slowly walking towards Moon.

"Where will I be able to find you?" inquired Regis.

"I will come back here."

August returned to the Grand Cherry forest to talk to Sylphs about the deal. It didn't take long until they agreed to do the ritual. They gave August a week to prepare for his own thing.

Getting their word, August travelled back to the village since it was the closest place where he could commit to the ritual of removing a curse where all conditions were met.

The week quickly went by, and August walked to the freshly made graveyard and prepared a place for a ritual.

Regis was looking at what August was doing while wondering about the reason for such a thing.

Once he tried to figure this out, "August, I wanted to ask, what is the reason for you doing all of this?"

August shortly replied, "Removing a curse."

"I haven't seen curses like this in my whole life," said Regis doubting that the method of taking down the curse could be such complicated and hard. He continued, "Are you sure that this will work?"

August sighed. "I don't know anything right now. This is the only path I was able to find. If this won't work, I have no idea what will, but I have to try to at least see the results."

"Well," said Regis thinking "I'm not here to doubt your ways and knowledge, but I think I can help. I know some people that might know a thing or two."

August nodded his head, saying, "Thanks, but I will still try. Won't hurt to see if it will work"

August walked in the middle of all graves that were located in the graveyard and took a seat right in the middle. Sitting with crossed legs and holding blood vials in his hands.

The sun was already gone, and the moon was already travelling in the sky. The only missing part was the ritual that Sylphs were about to start.

It took another half an hour before the night sky turned bright and started to light up the world around.

August decided to start the ritual.

Opening sealed vials of blood, he poured them over his head and took a deep breath, waiting for something to happen.

He stayed seated for a couple of minutes with his eyes sealed and his breath nice and slow.

But nothing was happening. Meanwhile, August was expecting something to happen. Regis was observing him from the sidelines, waiting to see the results of the ritual that August attempted.

But seeing nothing happening, he grew doubtful about the ritual actually working but decided to stay silent with his mouth sealed.

August opened his eyes. August looked around, looking at Regis "Something happened?" inquired August.

"Didn't seem like", replied Regis looking around and trying to spot the changes.

August exhaled the lungs full of air, getting slightly disappointed in the ritual that was supposed to help him in his mind.

Standing up, he was about to say something as he felt how his heart started to ache.

Placing his hand on his chest, he started to gasp for air, dropping on his eyes, with eyes enlarged and an uneven breath pattern.

An incredible sense of pain washed over his body, almost making him shout.

Regis wanted to help August, trying to get close to him and help him. But instead of accepting the help that was coming from Regis, August pushed him back, denying it, wanting to continue with the ritual.

Before long, even staying on, his eyes started to get painful, and August dropped on his hip.

Regis silently watched as August's pupils enlarged and shrinks while his body was under severe convulsions. Respecting the choice that his new friend made, Regis didn't dare to stop the Ritual but just observed.

He decided to intervene with it only when the time was right, and the life of August was on the line.

August's body was going through torture, but he endured to achieve the wanted results.

Slowly, his mind shut down as his convulsions died down, and his eyes stopped reacting to any inhibitors outside. He fell into a stupor state while being unconscious with his eyes still open.

His mind fell into something you can only internal darkness, with no entry or exit.

Regis approached August, seeing something that wasn't really supposed to happen.

"August," said Regis, trying to get any reaction from August.

Getting nothing, Regis kneeled down, trying to get any reaction, but nothing could be seen.

Shacking August's body resulted in nothing but a body that had a very slow heart and breath patterns. It looked like his body went into reserve mode, saving energy and slowing down all the processes possible.

Making the only decision he deemed reasonable, Regis saddled the Horse and went on the path that man never dared to cross. Towards the forest that people called the forest of death.
