Chapter 11: Second X Test X Ending
"How about this: we continue with the second exam. However, we will choose a new test in which you first demonstrate it personally before the examinees attempt it. How about is Menchi-Kun?" In a sing-song voice the Chairman of the Hunter Association, Isaac Netero who previously just landed on the exam site after jumping off an in-flight blimp to mediate with Menchi on behalf of the contestants.
"This will make it easier for examinees to accept the results of the exam as well." he further explained as he turned around to take a closer look at this year's batch of aspiring Hunters
"I see… I suppose I have been unfair to all the examinees, 'except that bastard who tried to poison me' as for a test for them to complete with a decent difficulty…" she trailed off as she looked towards the skyline in thought. Following her line of sight, you could see a large mountain with a crevasse bisecting it into two parts. After a moment her eyes shined in realization as she looked back towards the Chairman who was busy looking at a different pair of "twin peaks" and announced her intentions for the makeup exam.
"The second test shall be preparing a particular variant of boiled egg. Chairman, would you please allow the use of the blimp to take us to the top of Split Mountain?" she announced with a slightly mischievous grin
"Hoh? I see what you are doing. Yes, that should be fine. Everyone make sure to get on board the ship before it takes off!" after he finished speaking he turned around to enter the airship that had landed during the course of the interaction between himself and Menchi.
{P.oV Change}
"I have never been on one of these airships before…" I said as we all walked through the large doors of the flight craft.
"Really that's weird, didn't you say you were not local to this continent so how the hell did you get here?" surprisingly Leorio of all people questioned
'Ah, how to explain this… Random bullshit go!' Oh boy, here it was! The struggle almost all transmigrated Mc's go through: explaining how they know/don't know shit, unless you are some sort of mass-murdering Chinese office worker it could be very hard to fabricate a string of lies and a fake past. While the stress was slowly rising I began to sweat looking at Leorio, I mean who would have guessed it would be him of all people to bring it up damn!
"Boats. Seriously did you not earlier say you got here on a ship?" Yeah… I got overworked for nothing, I am a believer in KISS and am therefore a mediocre liar!
"Oh yeah… I guess there are continental travels via ship. Though there's no need to be so scared! I saw you sweating buckets over there you know? These airships are a pretty stable ride and this one seems to be top of the line, as expected of the Hunter Association" Leorio assured me as he looked at the inner furnishings of the airship as we were further ushered inside into the passenger area. Following this was the short flight over towards Split Mountain
{Time Skip}
"This crevasse is the nesting ground for Spider Eagle's who hang their eggs inside a web sac from the webs strung across the walls. Your task will be to grab an egg and navigate back to the top and cook the egg you retrieved. Now, make sure to watch as I will demonstrate." Menchi said as she slipped off her boots and strode towards the edge of the sheer drop.
"Here goes!" she shouted as she dived down into the cavern, as she neared one of the sacs she grabbed onto one of the nearby supporting web strands to break her fall. After her momentum was eventually dissipated by the elastic web, she then flipped her body and strung her legs around the web to make her hang upside down. Using her now free hands she grabbed one of the eggs and pulled it out of the sticky web. Having secured the egg she began to climb back up the walls to greet the examinees.
"Here! All you have to do is boil this egg, pretty easy no?" she said as began to walk away towards the airship. Though said examinees seemed a bit reluctant to attempt the task thinking it was to dangerous
"Ah that's a relief this is both easier and more enjoyable than the stupid cooking challenge," Killua said in excitement
"Yeah! I was waiting for something like this." Gon said as the two began to move towards the edge of the canyon, following the two followed the rest of them as they decided to make the jump for the eggs.
"Here we GOOOooo!" they shouted as they fell down
"Wait my hat fell off! That's an integral part of my character design!" those who decided to stay back from plunging into the canyon heard the wailing echoes of Magenta as his hat was lost to the force of Gravity.
{scene change}
"To you remaining 42 contestants I would like to formally reintroduce myself, I am Netero and my responsibility is overseeing the trials. As a member of the organization committee, I correspond with test examiners to make sure everything is going well. Normally we would not meet each other until the final part of the exam but due to unforeseen circumstances I have arrived earlier than expected." Inside the bridge of the airship, Netero introduced himself to all remaining examinees who had made the dive into Split Mountain and got out alive.
"The reason you're currently here is that I wish to inform you that the next phase of the exam will be starting tomorrow at eight in the morning. Feel free to do as you wish until then, that is all." as he finished talking the examinees began to filter out to relax for the evening.
