Chapter 7: FUTURE PLANS
"let the meeting begin" meeting begins with Serena's words.
After Butch and his gang were gone only seven people including Ash and Serena were left in the meeting room. Ash stood up and said, "First of all I want to tell you all that this is my company. You all are employees of my company so I will treat you all well as long as you all are loyal to my company but I don't need you if you are unqualified, unloyal, and not hard-working enough. I will never pay my money to slackers.'' After saying that Ash's gaze turned soft and he looked at Serena and said, "Next CEO Kayli will introduce you all to the situation of the company." After saying that Ash sat on his seat and Serena stood up.
"First I would like to show the real situation of the company." Serena took a file in her hand and said, "The situation of the company is bad but not very bad. It means we still have a chance and we can not only recover our former glory but can even make it way better than before."
"To improve our situation we need to take many tough steps and firstly reduce the expenditure of the company. We can congratulate ourselves that we have already taken the first step and reduced the burden of paying salaries to unwanted people."
"As for the financial situation of the company we are stagnant. It means we neither have funds nor any debts."
"What we need right now is an effective plan to turn around and become a profitable company. If any of you have a suggestion then go ahead and say it." Serena finished her speech and sat on her seat.
Soon a man in his early thirties stood up from his chair. His name was Rowen. He was a member of Depart of Distribution. Rowen loved watching movies so he joined the movie industry. Rowen understood which movie was good and which movie was bad. In the past when Starline was going downhill then Rowen tried to bring many good indie movies to the company to be distributed but the previous head didn't allow those movies because those indie movies couldn't bribe the previous head. But now the previous head was gone Rowen felt like it was his chance.
"Just now CEO Kayli said that we are at a stagnant position which means we are at a starting point. But at this point, we currently have a very big advantage over others: our distribution channels. Our distribution channels are strong and comparable to even the big six in this country. If we are to release some good indie films using the profit-sharing method, we can earn good money, but we have to find good films."
"Can you find these good indie movies?" Ash asked him.
"Yes, I can if given a chance. I have connections to many small indie film companies and they produce good quality content but they normally don't get to distribute their movies."
"Okay, I will give you a chance. I hereby appoint you as the temporary head of the distribution department." Ash announced. "Any other suggestions?"
"President even though we have reduced the salary burden. But I think we should still hire new people so we don't have a heavy work burden," A man said
"Don't worry we have already taken precautionary measures all important positions will be filled as soon as possible," Serena answered.
After that, the meeting went on for another hour, and many things were discussed among them. Many new rules were also applied.
After the meeting was ended, Serena offered Ash to show him his office So Ash went with Serena. Starline had rented the first three floors of a high-rise building in Santa Monica LA. The first floor was used by reception, HR, and the distribution department. The second floor was for the LTA and film production department and the last floor was used for the offices of higher management. Ash's office was located at the end of the third floor. It had a large window right beside his chair where one could see the beautiful sea view.
Ash sat on his chair and looked at the beautiful sea view. "It's beautiful here isn't it."
"Yes, It's indeed beautiful," Serena answered.
"One day I will make Starline the biggest company in the world. That's my dream."
"Considering your performance today you might make that dream into reality though firing Butch was a little unexpected."
"But isn't it for the better?"
"Yes, Now we one less person to cause headache."
"Serena, Do you remember the day we first met and I asked what will you do when I make a decision which you don't like?"
"Yes, and I answered that I am your employee, not your caretaker so I will resist but not oppose it."
"Then I have decided to direct a movie."
"What did you say?"
"I said I want to direct a movie."
"Please don't joke around. You know your major is business management, not movie direction."
"Don't resist it yet. Resist it after you read the script."
"And where did you get the script?"
"I wrote it myself. It's about to be completed just needs some final touch. It will be ready in a week."
"Why do you suddenly want to direct a movie?"
"I was always fascinated with movie directing but due family problems never chose it but I have studied it for years now."
"Studying and directing a movie are two different things."
"Say that after you read my script if you don't like it I will give it up."
"Okay I give up for now but I might even oppose it if don't like the script."
"I knew you are a good employee."
After that Serena left the office and Ash was looking at the horizon with a beautiful scene of the evening sun. Ash kept staring at that scene and he kept thinking of different ways of filming his first movie.
